Many of these consumers are under the false impression that the bottled water they are consuming is safer than the toxin-laden tap water that is coming out of their household faucets. Unfortunately, bottled water is often just as bad, or even worse, than tap water in the United States and elsewhere. Research shows that this common misconception is the result of highly-effective mass advertising campaigns and marketing. Learn how to distinguish between safe and unsafe drinking water.

The typical cost of bottled water per gallon is around $3.79, while a typical cost of tap water is $0.002/gallon. Of course tap water is not a viable alternative to bottled water when it comes to improving one's health, but why is bottled water so much more expensive when it is oftentimes just as contaminated? For a 1900% markup over tap water, it would be expected that the bottled water would be of much higher quality, and at least reasonably free of health-crushing contaminants. According to an extensive study conducted by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) , 9/10 of the best selling water brands fail to even identify the methods in which their products are filtered or purified. In fact, the companies fail to answer 3 important questions when it comes to the quality of their water: Where does the water come from; is it purified; and have any tests found any contaminants in the water?

Further research has attempted to answer these questions through independent studies, despite the lack of answers coming from the bottled water companies. Astoundingly, after reviewing the research, the Environmental Working Group recommends filtered tap water over any bottled water. The premium price tag on bottled water quite often means almost nothing. The study found that almost 50% of bottled water is municipal tap water. Other bottled water was found to be less regulated than tap water in terms of contaminants, and oftentimes more polluted with toxins than regular tap water. Another factor, aside from the shady lack of information coming from the industry regarding bottled water, is the presence of bisphenol A in plastic bottled water.

Bisphenol A is a hormone-disrupting chemical linked to a number of nasty health conditions including cancer, obesity, and the development of feminine traits in males. Canada has even labeled bisphenol A as a toxic chemical after two years of debate and research on the subject. Found in nearly 91% of all Canadians at the time of the ban, bisphenol A is present in the majority of water bottles. Experts may argue that the presence of bisphenol A alone would make drinking any bottled water an immediate threat to your health, leaving the debate in the dust. Since bottled water and tap water are both so destructive to one's health, what is the best kind of water to drink?

Filtered water is the best option both economically and in terms of health. While the initial cost of a high quality water filter may exceed the price of a month's supply of bottled water, you are saving both your body and your wallet in the long run. With high quality filters, only purchasing replacement cartridges will be necessary after the initial purchase, which are oftentimes fairly cheap. It is important to note that when filtering tap water, reverse osmosis is a preferred method in removing toxic substances such as fluoride and heavy metals. With a reverse osmosis filter, however, comes another problem. Reverse osmosis filters remove everything from the water, even natural minerals and nutrients. The water, once consumed, will be looking to leech back these minerals from your body to maintain its state. CDC admits flu vaccines don’t work

(www.Borganic.org) I’m always amused by the purchasing process of electronics or appliances at big box stores. On one hand, as their sales associate calmly explains to you, whatever product you’re buying is such high quality that you’ll be extremely satisfied with your purchase. But on the other hand, it’s also such a complete piece of junk that you’d be smart to add on a two-year extended warranty so that when the gizmo breaks five seconds after you open the box, you can get a replacement for free.

The CDC and the vaccine industry are fronting a similar bit of contradictory logic. “Our vaccines work so well that they offer almost total immunity from the flu,” they claim. And yet somehow they also work so poorly that they “wear off” after a year and require you to be re-vaccinated annually.

This is The Great Big Lie of the vaccine industry: The lie that says you have be re-vaccinated each and every year, often with the exact same strains you were vaccinated with the previous year. The coming winter flu vaccines for 2011, for example, are being manufactured with the same strains as the 2010 flu vaccines.

But if vaccines work so amazingly well as the CDC and the vaccine industry (fraudulently) suggests, then why do you need the same shot year after year?

Well, according to the CDC, “Vaccines wear off.”

Vaccines wear off, they say

Yep, that’s their cover story. The vaccines “wear off.”

But hold on a minute. There’s something fishy about this. Because human antibodies normally last a lifetime, remember? That’s why you don’t get the chicken pox over and over again; because the first time you got the chicken pox as a kid, your body created chicken pox antibodies and those antibodies last a lifetime.

Thus, your immune system offers you lifetime immunity from the chicken pox.

The vaccine industry false tries to claim its vaccines work exactly the same way: They cause the body to produce antibodies against a certain viral strain. But there’s something you’re not being told about vaccines: They don’t really produce the same quality and strength of antibodies that your own body would produce from a natural infection and recovery. That’s why the vaccines “wear off” and leave you with zero protection from the very strains they inoculate you against.

In other words, vaccines don’t work as advertised. And that’s why the vaccine industry has to keep pushing the same vaccine strains year after year. Because, think about it: If vaccines actually worked as intended, they would give you lifetime immunity against whatever strains you were injected with, right? And yet the CDC now openly admits vaccines don’t offer that at all:

“This year’s flu shot will be a duplicate of last year’s because the same flu strains are still circulating,” reports the Associated Press in an article about the CDC. “Government health officials are urging nearly everyone to get this fall’s flu shot. Vaccine protection fades after a few months? Well then, vaccines must not actually cause the body to react with producing its own antibodies, because those antibodies, we’re told, offer lifetime immunity.

Another way you can confirm this yourself is by remembering your history. Remember when the Europeans came to America centuries ago and killed off masses of American Indians by accidentally giving them smallpox? Well, if the Indians died of smallpox, why didn’t the Europeans die of smallpox? (There were no vaccines in the 1600′s and 1700′s.) The answer is because the Europeans had already been exposed and built up lifetime immunity to the disease.

Thus, the reason the European invaders of North America did not die from smallpox wasn’t because they were vaccinated; it was because they had already been exposed to the disease and had built up active immunity against it (by producing their own antibodies which last a lifetime). Thus, the Europeans could be exposed to smallpox over and over again with no symptoms of infection. They were effectively “immune” to smallpox, in exactly the same way a human being living today becomes immune to a winter flu strain by first being exposed to the full strength strain (in the wild) and then building up their own antibodies in an automatic adaptive response.

But don’t expect the vaccine industry to educate anyone on how infectious disease and antibodies really work. They’re too busy selling annual flu shots to bother with scientific facts.

The flu vaccine manufacturing machine is on high output

“Five vaccine manufacturers announced plans to make between 166 million and 173 million doses for the coming season,” says the same article mentioned above. That’s the highest vaccine manufacturing output for the USA in the history of vaccines.

With all these 170 million (or so) vaccines sitting around by the time the winter rolls around, the CDC is obviously going to have to kick its propaganda and fear mongering into high gear to convince people to buy all these vaccines. This is going to be doubly difficult considering the inconvenient fact that all the people who got vaccinated last year already received vaccines against these same viral strains!

So, in other words, the CDC must now convince 170 million people that last year’s vaccine was such a complete failure that they need the exact same vaccines this year — and somehow this year’s vaccine will work better even though it’s exactly the same as last year’s vaccine. How will they accomplish this?

It’s simple: They won’t talk much about the fact that this year’s flu vaccine is identical to last year’s flu vaccine. They’ll just repeat their blatant lies about vaccines offering near-100 percent protection against the flu — an insinuation so blatantly false that the FTC should actually charge the vaccine manufacturers with false advertising.

And the great unknowing masses will, of course, line up to be injected yet again with the same cocktail of viral strains and vaccine preservatives that didn’t work for them last year! Because the hilarious truth about flu vaccines is that most of the people who get sick from the flu each year are the same people who were vaccinated against the flu!

Yep, it’s the devastating secret of the vaccine industry: Most of the flu victims each year are precisely the same people who took the flu shots. And now you know why that is so — because the flu vaccine shots simply don’t work. Even if you do believe they work at first, even the CDC openly admits — on the record — that “flu vaccines stop working after several months.”

They fade out like a set of old batteries, in other words. And that right there is proof that flu vaccines don’t produce a true antibody response.

The great vaccine marketing con: Annual vaccine shots

The CDC is now engaged in the marketing of annual vaccination of the entire population. That’s the game, you see: Convince people they need an annual flu shot just to stay healthy. It’s a complete marketing con, of course, but it’s necessary to keep the flu vaccine profit machine humming along each winter.

In doing this, the CDC is now running a criminal marketing racket to falsely push vaccines as the solution even though flu vaccines simply don’t work. For every 100 people vaccinated against the winter flu, by the way, 99 of them will experience no difference whatsoever in their flu outcomes. Even using the industry’s own best evidence, flu vaccines are no more than one percent effective at actually preventing the flu (http://www.naturalnews.com/029641_v…) — and that’s only during the first few months before they “fade out.”

This is an agency that now functions as little more than the marketing branch of the vaccine giants.

As part of that total prostitution of itself to the vaccine makers, last year the CDC even announced that virtually everyone should get annual flu vaccine shots, including pregnant women!

You can immunize yourself against the winter flu

But here’s the other dirty little secret the CDC absolutely does not want you to know: If you skip the vaccine, boost your vitamin D intake, and encounter the flu naturally, you will build your own lifetime antibodies against the infection.

Got that? We are surrounded by this invisible health risk

(www.Borganic.org) Almost all of us use electrical appliances and cell phones on a daily basis. Few people take a moment to stop and think about the side-effects of the electromagnetic fields that these appliances have on our health. Even fluorescent lights produce electromagnetic fields.

Electric blankets have been linked to childhood leukaemia and miscarriages because of the fact that electromagnetic fields created by them are able to penetrate up to 7 inches into the body. People who are exposed to fluorescent light at home or in the workplace can experience feelings of reduced alertness which in turn can lead to feeling more tired than usual. This is because the electromagnetic fields which are emitted from these lights cause red blood cells to clump together.

Clock radios which are electric emit relatively high electromagnetic fields, so these should ideally not be placed at or near your bedside. Other electrical items which emit low levels of electromagnetic fields are hairdryers, washing machines, refrigerators, electric shavers and vacuum cleaners. Basically, anything which requires electricity to work will emit a level of electromagnetic field around it.

X-rays and so-called diagnostic scans expose people to unnecessarily high levels of electromagnetic fields and radiation. A study undertaken by Dr Nancy Wertheimer showed that children who live close to overhead power lines are 3 times more likely to develop cancer and leukaemia. A safe distance to live from overhead power lines and neighbourhood transformers is estimated to be a minimum of around 1000 feet away. Another source of high levels of electromagnetic fields is incorrect house or office wiring. An inspection carried out by a qualified electrician will be able to determine this.

Other conditions which may be caused by exposure to electromagnetic fields are fatigue, severe headaches, brain cancer and tumours, nervous system damage, fluctuations in blood pressure, tinnitus, sleeplessness, asthma, allergies, arthritis, memory and concentration problems, nausea, weakened immune systems, epilepsy, Alzheimer`s, strokes, heart attacks, severe cases of exhaustion, birth defects and even miscarriages. Children are especially sensitive and susceptible to exposure and side-effects caused by electromagnetic fields.

There are safety measures that one can take to help reduce your exposure to electromagnetic fields. These include unplugging and turning off all electrical appliances when they are not being used, avoiding prolonged exposure to computers and TVs, keeping all electrical appliances at least 6 feet away from your bed, not keeping your cell phone close to your bed at night (even if it is used as an alarm clock) and using electrical appliances for as brief periods as possible. Keeping plants indoors can also be beneficial; they are able to absorb some of the radiation and electromagnetic fields present in the home while producing the negative ions which are necessary for our bodies.

coffee really help to prevent breast cancer?

(www.Borganic.org) Coffee addiction may not be the detriment to health many people think it is, according to a new study published in the journal Breast Cancer Research. Postmenopausal women over 50 who drink five or more cups of coffee every day may be as much as 57 percent less likely to develop estrogen-receptor (ER) negative tumors, say researchers from the Karolinska Institute (KI) in Sweden.

Dr. Jingmei Li and her colleagues from KI evaluated 6,000 women, some of whom drank no coffee, and others who drank five cups or more. After adjusting for outside factors like age at menopause, weight, family history of breast cancer, and others that affect results, the research team observed that women who drank the most coffee were least likely to develop some of the most serious forms of breast cancer.

On the other hand, coffee consumption played no role in reducing the risk of ER-positive cancers, indicating that something unique to the ER-negative varieties is sensitive to coffee. ER-negative breast cancers are typically the most difficult to treat with conventional medicine, as many breast cancer drugs have no effect on them.

"A high daily intake of coffee was found to be associated with a significant decrease in ER-negative breast cancer among postmenopausal women," wrote the team in their report. "We believe that this may have something to do with the way the coffee was prepared, or the type of bean preferred."

Previous research has shown that drinking coffee may also help to reduce the risk of developing liver fibrosis, hepatitis, type-2 diabetes, prostate cancer, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease (http://www.naturalnews.com/028033_c...).

Fukushima reactors have melted

(www.Borganic.org) The Tokyo Electric Power Company's (TEPCO) house of cards is toppling, as it has now been revealed that three reactors at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power facility all melted shortly after the devastating earthquake and tsunami hit them on March 11 (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...). TEPCO also now admits that holes likely exist in the reactors' containment vessels as a result, which explains the persistent water leaks and drastic temperature fluctuations that led to continuous containment problems (http://www3.nhk.or.jp/daily/english...).

TEPCO officials claim that the company has never hidden any of this information from the public, but that recent data analysis has confirmed what many scientists and experts had correctly predicted weeks ago based on observation of the situation. And rightfully so, many remain critical of TEPCO's drastic underestimation of the true condition of the plant, and say the company's unrealistic optimism since the disaster first occurred has been wholly misleading, and not at all based in reality.

The entire faulty approach taken by TEPCO throughout this unfolding mega-disaster can be compared to the following scenario:

A major vehicle accident has caused the engine of a semi-truck carrying a large fuel tank to catch fire and explode, which has obviously destroyed the truck's internal computer monitoring system and rendered it non-operational. The large fuel tank on the back of the truck has not yet caught fire, but instead of making a logical assessment based on simple observation that the situation is very serious, and that the fuel tank could soon catch fire, emergency responders (TEPCO) instead say that, because there is no way to run a computer analysis of the truck's engine, there is no way to know for sure to know exactly what is going on. So they instead pour water all over the engine and allege that everything is just fine, instead of making the logical decision to unhinge the truck from the fuel tank and fix the situation as quickly as possible. In the end, more explosions take place, and eventually the disaster escalates into a much worse one.

The only difference between this truck scenario and Fukushima is the fact that large explosions already took place very early on, which should have been an obvious indicator that things were out of control at the plant. But TEPCO officials, with the apparent approval of the Japanese government, minimized the severity of the situation since nothing could be confirmed with concrete data, despite the fact that nuclear experts everywhere observed the "symptoms" of the disaster, and had come to logical conclusions early on that meltdowns were likely taking place.

So instead of doing what most people would consider to be the right thing, and admitting that the plant was most likely beyond containment -- and that entombing it as quickly as possible in order to avoid the continuous spewing of radioactive particles into the environment was the best option to take -- TEPCO has instead been playing around with ocean water (http://www.naturalnews.com/031978_r...) and ridiculous polyester tents (http://www.naturalnews.com/032400_F...), all while radioactive materials continue to leak into the atmosphere, groundwater, and oceans. Clearly, things are amiss in the way the entire thing is being handled by those who are expected to be most privy to the nature of nuclear technology and how it behaves under current conditions.

The most recent reports available explain that a shocking 94 percent of the fuel in Reactor 3 may have melted into containment water just three days after the May 11 disaster (http://www.world-nuclear-news.org/R...). Reactor 3, of course, contains the deadly, plutonium-based MOX fuel that is actually capable of "breeding" itself and regenerating beyond its original mass. And at this point in time, Reactors 1, 2, and 3 have all likely had their entire fuel rods completely melt, creating holes in the containment vessels that are leaking and spreading unknown levels of radiation directly into the environment (http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201...).

And to make matters even worse, a "very intense" super typhoon, Songda, is making its way across the Pacific Ocean where it is expected to hit Japan in the next couple of days. This Category 5 storm is seeing sustained winds of 161 miles per hour (mph) and gusts of up to 195 mph, according to CNN (http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/2...). Though the storm system is expected to drop to a Category 2 by the time it hits Japan, it has the potential to exacerbate the Fukushima situation by causing more flooding, or by further spreading radioactive particles (http://www.jma.go.jp/en/typh/1102.html).

Republican Lt. Governor Killed TSA Bill For Obamat


The man who was instrumental in working with the federal government to sabotage a bill that would have made TSA grope downs a felony in the state of Texas was Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, a former CIA agent and establishment insider considered to be the wealthiest man in Texas politics.

As we have documented, the anti-pat down bill was derailed in the Texas Senate having unanimously passed the House by 138-0 votes after the Department of Justice sent a letter threatening to impose a no fly zone over Texas and shut down Texas airports. The warning was nothing short of a federal blockade and an act of financial terrorism.

But the federal assault was aided by a traitor from within the state, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who only served to amplify the threats made by the DOJ in communicating them to members of the Senate, convincing them them to cave in and forcing the hand of Senator Dan Patrick to withdraw the bill before it could be shot down permanently.

“He came up with this elaborate political play to kill the bill without his fingerprints,” Sen. Patrick, R-Houston stated, adding, “His fingerprints are all over this.”

“Someone who will undermine his members and someone who will not stand up to the federal government — you have to ask yourself is that the kind of person that we need in the U.S. Senate,” Patrick said, adding that Dewhurst “sideswiped” him on Tuesday night by turning members against the bill.

Patrick is now planning to insert an amendment within the bill that will mandate the federal government comply within six months. However, some will merely see that as unnecessarily watering down the legislation.

“I hear he’s thinking about running for governor,” Patrick said. “I hear he’s thinking about running for senator. In the last 24 hours, he’s given me some things to think about.”

Given the fact that Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is undoubtedly an establishment insider it’s unsurprising that he played the role of Judas in protecting the agenda of the Obama administration over and above the will of his own legislators and the people of Texas.

Dewhurst is a creature of the federal government, having worked as a CIA agent and also served in the US State Department. He was also director of the state Task Force on Homeland Security.

During his tenure in the CIA in the early 1970′s, Dewhurst helped the U.S. government violently overthrow democratically elected regimes in South America to plunder their oil and other resources, including the coup that helped neo-nazi Bolivian Gen. Hugo Banzer Su├írez come to power. Banzer was aided by notorious Nazi Klaus Barbie, the “butcher of Lyon,” who escaped France after the end of World War 2 to enter Bolivia.

Barbie, an expert in cruel and inhumane forms of torture for the purposes of interrogation, was a key CIA liaison throughout the years Dewhurst served in South America. When the Austin Chronicle asked Dewhurst whether he had enjoyed a drink with the “butcher of Lyon” at the US embassy bar, he responded, “I never comment on intelligence matters.”

So in Dewhurst we basically have a man who helped neo-nazis, as well as Nazi torture experts, overthrow legitimate governments in the 70′s now helping the Obama administration overthrow America in 2011, by protecting an army of TSA thugs who are being used to completely demolish constitutional rights.

Following the recent raid on Osama Bin Laden’s alleged compound, Dewhurst hinted that he still moved very much within spook circles when he stated, “I can’t go into details, but the capabilities that the United States has developed over the years is nothing short of breath-taking.”

“Little is known about Dewhurst. His life story is an impenetrable fog of obfuscation punctuated by tantalizing facts,” reports the Texas Observer. “This secrecy has extended from his military record to the sources of his wealth to his current financial conflicts. He has repeatedly gotten into trouble with the Texas Ethics Commission for overly vague financial filings. State elected officials are required to either disclose their finances or put all their assets in a blind trust. Until 2008, Dewhurst declined to do either, putting his money in a (nonblind) trust and declining to release information about it.”

During his campaign for lieutenant governor in 2001, Dewhurst ran an ad featuring a German Luftwaffe officer standing in front of an American flag, somewhat appropriate given the fact that Dewhurst obviously believes Americans should be forced to ‘show their papers’ at checkpoints manned by TSA goons which are popping up all over the country just like people in Nazi Germany were also forced to endure checkpoints and strip-searches.

The health benefits of organic food phytochemicals

(www.Borganic.org) Phytonutrients, the chemicals that help plants defend against environmental challenges, such as damage from pests or ultraviolet light, appear to provide humans with protection as well. Mounting research shows their effectiveness in preventing and treating a range of conditions including everything from cancer and heart disease to diabetes and high blood pressure. But current law dictates that if anyone advertises health benefits without FDA approval, it is automatically considered an illegal health claim, even for everyday foods, such as walnuts.

Phytochemicals are thought to be responsible for much of the disease protection granted by diets high in fruits, vegetables, beans, cereals, and plant-based beverages such as tea and wine, according to a University of California, Davis report (http://chnr.ucdavis.edu/content/Fac...).

Although it has become widely accepted that a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and grains reduces the risk of cancer, heart disease, and other illnesses, scientists have only recently begun researching the effects of the different phytonutrients those foods contain.

Previous evidence has come from observations of cultures that eat plant-based diets and have lower rates of certain types of cancer and heart disease. The relatively low rates of breast and endometrial cancers in some Asian cultures, for example, are credited partly to dietary habits. These cancers are much more common in the United States, possibly because the typical American diet is higher in fat and lower in fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains, according to American Cancer Society.

Evidence shows that they may work by helping to prevent the formation of potential carcinogens, blocking the action of carcinogens on their target organs or tissue, or acting on cells to suppress cancer development.

Research suggests that flavonoids, the most diverse group of phytochemicals, may be a key phytochemical group that contributes to the reduced mortality rates observed in people consuming high levels of plant-based foods, according to the UC Davis report. In the Zutphen Elderly Study, myocardial infarction was found to decrease as falvonoid intake increased. Similarly, the Seven Countries Study, which compared the diets of men living in various Western countries including the U.S., suggested that consumption of flavonoids was responsible for 25 percent of the observed difference in mortality rates in the different countries.

University of Minnesota Hormel Institute researchers say phytonutrients could be used in effective cancer prevention therapy, so much so that they eventually aim to develop phytochemical-derived anticancer drugs, Dr. Sigang Dong told The Austin Daily Herald (http://www.austindailyherald.com/20...).

"In the future, personalized prevention methods using photochemical could have a crucial role in cancer prevention, especially in high-risk populations," Dong said. "We will continue our rigorous research in identifying molecular targets and aim for conducting human studies with phytocehemicals - this would provide the path for an enhanced approach to personalized cancer prevention."

FDA monopoly on health

Evidence favoring the health benefits of phytonutrients is growing every day, so much so that the biotech industry is already researching transgenic and non-transgenic ways to vastly increase the phytonutrient levels in plants that already contain high levels of the chemicals, according the 2009 book Recent Advances in Biotechnology (http://books.google.com/books?id=Sl...).

Yet, even as the science bounds ahead, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration refuses to allow food producers to put the facts on their labels.

The agency has structured the rules to categorize anything that treats or prevents disease as a drug. If you eat walnuts, which are shown to lower high cholesterol -- according to Natural News, the FDA declares your walnuts to be a drug. Furthermore, if anything is advertised as providing health benefits without FDA approval, it's automatically considered to be an "unapproved drug", even if it's a common, everyday food like walnuts, cherries, grapes or orange (http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/Enforcemen...).

Shockingly, even references to peer-reviewed scientific studies are a no-no without FDA permission. Understanding Phytonutrients

Some researchers estimate up to 40,000 phytonutrients will someday be fully catalogued and understood. In just the last 30 years, many hundreds of these compounds have been identified and are currently being investigated for their health-promoting qualities, according to The George Mateljan Foundation for the World's Healthiest Foods.

Phytonutrients are classified by their chemical structure and categorized into families based on the similarities in their structures. The phenols, or polyphenols is one family that has received attention in the scientific literature. Integrating phytonutrients into your diet

A recommended intake of phytochemicals does not exist today, according to the UC Davis report. The Standing Committee on the Scientific Evaluation of Dietary Reference Intakes and its Panel on Dietary Antioxidants and Related Compounds chose not to create a Dietary Reference Intake due to the lack of food composition data and a true understanding of the absorption and metabolism of phytonutrients. Frightening ultimatum - Choose between carcinogenic light bulbs or excessive prices

(www.Borganic.org) Less than one month after bombshell new research revealed that "environmentally safe" compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) contained carcinogenic chemicals, two leading bulb makers have introduced a new brand of LED light bulbs. The bulbs were introduced as an alternative to the toxin-laden CFL's, though there is a drawback. Thanks to government regulations, traditional incandescent bulbs will soon be phased out of production -- leading to a very frightening ultimatum: if you don't want carcinogenic CFL light bulbs, you'll have to pay $50 each for the new LED bulbs.

Experts have known the dangers of CFL light bulbs for quite some time, but new research has led to even the mainstream media now reporting on the dangers of CFL light bulbs. In an experiment carried out at the Berlin's Alab Laboratory, it was found that the bulbs should not be left on for long periods of time -- particularly near one's head. This is due to the poisonous materials emitted from the so-called "eco-safe" bulbs when switched on. The researchers found that some of the carcinogens emitted from the bulbs included phenol, naphthalene, and styrene. While all of these chemicals are considerably dangerous to the body, it is worth mentioning that phenol was used as a means of execution by the Nazis in the second world war. Phenol, along with the other harmful chemicals, are substances that do not belong in any household or workplace.

Peter Braun, who performed the light bulb tests at the Berlin's Alab Laboratory, said: "For such carcinogenic substances it is important they are kept as far away as possible from the human environment."

CFL bulbs are already widely used both in the European Union and in the United States. Thanks to a call by the EU government to phase out incandescent bulbs by the end of 2011, many households have converted to carcinogen-producing CFL's under the guise of saving the planet with the "environmentally-friendly" bulbs. The health consequences of such widespread use are currently unknown, as the results will only come with time. With an excess of cancer-causing chemicals being pumped into the average household, an explosion in already-skyrocketing cancer rates may be the result. Despite the research coming out over the negative health effects of the bulbs, The Department for the Environment still insists that they are perfectly safe.

On The Department for the Environment website it states: "Energy efficient light bulbs are not a danger to the public."

Thanks to alternative news pushing the dangers of CFL's into the mainstream, and this vital new research, a growing number of people are recognizing the dangers associated with using them. This leads the population to look for alternatives, as with any product that consumers do not want to purchase. The problem is, however, that government regulations threaten the consumer's ability to purchase traditional incandescent bulbs that do not leak carcinogens into the air. Congress passed a law in 2007 mandating that bulbs producing 100 watts of light meet certain standards, which conventional light bulbs do not. The law goes into full effect by 2012, with California already banning stores from restocking on 100-watt incandescent bulbs. It seems that the other option -- besides hoarding incandescents before they are banned -- is to purchase a new brand of LED bulbs. The bulbs will cost $50 each, and they will escape the federal ban due to being energy-efficient by the standards of the new law.

These LED bulbs may be more efficient and do not contain harmful substances, but they simply are not affordable for the majority of consumers worldwide. Government regulations have driven consumers to begin purchasing light bulbs that will endanger their health and quite possibly give them cancer, as the alternatives may not be economically viable. While it may not be a simple issue to remedy, one thing is for sure: the health of the nation should not suffer due to poorly designed light bulbs that contain known carcinogens.

California farmer proves you can grow organic strawberries without using chemicals

(www.Borganic.org) When is the last time you ate a truly delicious sweet strawberry that had been grown using only natural methods of agriculture? California's first organic strawberry grower has been producing such crimson delights for 25 years, and his success shows that in spite of claims to the contrary, it is possible to make a living with organic farming.

Jim Cochran, 63, farms just north of Santa Cruz at the Swanton Berry Farm. His early days of farming followed the common techniques of using fumigants and pesticides, until he found himself poisoned by his own farming methods. In 1981 he was in a field that had been crop-dusted the day before, and as the sun came up, the chemicals rose in a cloud.

Although consumers think about their own health consequences from non-organic farming, it can be an even bigger problem for farm workers (http://www.naturalnews.com/030894_C...). The year after that incident Cochran was affected by methyl bromide, making him feel sick and weak.

"This was when it was becoming obvious that pesticides were way more harmful than people had been led to believe," Cochran says. Because he wanted to protect his own health, he decided to start farming organically. "From the start, everyone said it was impossible to grow a commercial crop of strawberries without chemicals," he says, but his obvious success should be sending a clear message (http://www.grist.org/organic-food/2...).

Cochran does say that the transition required some learning. At first his yield went down, but he and a partner had begun cautiously, planting half organically and half in the old way. It took time for Cochran to learn how to grow strawberries, a very touchy crop, in the new way. Eventually he began to figure out things like planting the berries in single rows for better air circulation.

As he began to get established, Cochran also started working with researchers from the University of California at Santa Cruz to publish studies showing that organic strawberries could be an economically viable option for farmers. Convincing farmers that they could survive growing organically has not been easy (http://www.naturalnews.com/025691_o...), but studies of Cochran's farm have helped.

Cochran's success and visibility have also added a political dimension to his farming, as he has received environmental awards and testified before a committee of the California State Assembly. Growing strawberries requires chemicals that can deplete the ozone layer (to sterilize fields), or a chemical with severe toxicity to humans.

Nevertheless, Cochran is optimistic about the future with younger farmers, adding, "It's surprisingly easier to grow strawberries without chemicals than the industry would lead you to believe."

Diabetics twice as likely to develop cancer, suggests new study

(www.Borganic.org) A new study published in the journal Diabetes Care reveals that diabetics have a nearly doubled risk of developing certain types of cancer compared to those without the disease. Dr. Chaoyang Li from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Ga., and his colleagues found that 16 percent of diabetic men and 17 percent of diabetic women develop cancer, while only seven and ten percent of the general population, respectively, develop it.

"The significant association between cancer and diabetes does not surprise us," Dr. Li is quoted as saying in a recent FOX News piece. Dr. Li and his team surveyed 400,000 adults by phone, and after accounting for external factors like age, race, and smoking and drinking habits, they determined that diabetics are far more prone to develop colon, pancreas, rectum, urinary bladder, kidney, breast and prostate cancers, than is the rest of the population.

The report explains that the most dramatic increase is seen in those with pancreatic cancer, as diabetic men appear to be 400 percent more likely to develop the cancer than others. And in women, those with diabetes tended to be up to three times more likely to develop blood cancer than women without the disease.

"[The study] shows there's a substantial pool of American adults who have diabetes and cancer," said Dr. Fred Brancati, a professor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., who was not involved with the study. "The authors rightly point out that these two conditions go together beyond chance alone, so it pays to think about them together."

Research Dr. Brancati published in 2008 revealed that the death rate from cancer is about 40 percent higher in diabetics than it is in the general population as well, illustrating once again a clear connection between diabetes and compounded cancer risk.

Organic Consumers Association takes aim at Whole Foods over labeling of GM foods

(www.Borganic.org) Whole Foods customers have a love/hate relationship with the natural and organic foods giant. They have run afoul of their customer base before - remember the mass outcry and call for boycott as a result of comments thrown about by the CEO regarding health care rights (http://www.naturalnews.com/026906_f...)? Now there is the issue of mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods being bandied about in a variety of state legislatures - an effort that recent polls indicate 90 percent of America is in favor of - and Whole Foods is again being called upon to make a decision that is aligned with their espoused business mission.

The problem is a recently leaked internal memo that doesn't indicate their readiness to do so. The memo, in short, acknowledges the dangers of genetically modified foods, yet falls of any real commitment, stating "the reality is that no grocery store in the United States, no matter what size or type of business, can claim they are GE-free..."

Critics are insisting that this isn't enough. The Whole Foods brand is built upon the basic tenant that their products are natural or organic and a good choice for the eco-organic conscious consumer. So for them not to pick up and unquestionably support the movement for mandatory labeling of GE food is for some another disappointing move.

The nonprofit consumer powerhouse the Organic Consumer Association certainly thinks so. They are taking Whole Foods to task for not making the effort to ensure that the foods they sell are not blighted with the toxic taint of genetic modification. Genetically modified foods have been tied to a host of health problems, ranging from liver/kidney problems to immune dysfunctions (http://www.naturalnews.com/028245_G...); not to mention environmental ones like genetic contamination, (http://www.naturalnews.com/024154_c...) where non-GMO crops are tainted by pollen from GMO crops.

The European community has been successfully battling the widespread planting and importing of GM crops for years. However, the FDA greenlighted GMO foods for U.S. consumption at the bequest of heavy lobbying by companies like Monsanto who over the years has switched their business efforts from creating toxins like Agent Orange to having a stronghold on the manufacture of various genetically engineered seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.

If the FDA won't step up to protect the American public, then it's time for the companies that reap huge profits from the sale of organic and natural goods to do so. That is what the OCA is trying to get across to stores like Whole Foods. They can't have it both ways - either these companies stand against genetically engineered foods and refuse to allow them on our grocery shelves without clear labeling, or face the public relations and economic consequences.

Ninety-one percent of the soy we consume is tainted by the filth of the GMO machine, literally the most quietly kept epidemic of our lifetime. Soy makes up a large portion of the diet for the chickens, pigs, and cows some of us eat. Even the vegetarian/vegan community is exposed as a number of meat substitutes list soy as a main ingredient. Soy and soybean oil have wiggled their way into a wide array of processed foods including salad dressings, peanut butter, tamari, mayonnaise, crackers, baby formula, baked good mixes, textured vegetable protein, and the list goes on. So unless you are eating an organic version of any of the above, there is a good chance you are exposing yourself to GMO soy.

Genetically engineered crops are destroying the environment, the health of indigenous communities, and ultimately our health as end of the chain consumers. The American Academy of Environmental Medicine has reported a number of studies. Their results? Frightening. Also, as a result of the antibiotic resistant genes within GE food, they are the highly suspected culprits behind the new "superbug." Children are the most susceptible to these harmful effect, since they are constantly in a state of high growth; parents should take care. GMO foods, and especially soy, have been tied to an increase in allergies, asthma, and a propensity to get antibiotic resistant infections.
