Think your exposure to BPA is minimal and harmless? Think again

(www.borganic.org) Some recent reports about the dangers of the plastic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) insist that people not worry because overall exposure is limited, they say. But a new report published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives says otherwise, estimating that the average person is exposed to at least eight times the daily amount of BPA that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers "safe".

"Our data raise grave concerns that regulatory agencies have grossly underestimated current human exposure levels," explain study authors in their report.

Many even question the EPA's 50 micrograms per day threshold, citing evidence that minimal amounts of the chemical interfere with proper hormone balance, both in children and adults. But at eight times that amount, there is no telling the amount of damage being inflicted.

According to Thomas Zoeller, a biology professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, BPA is known to mimic estrogen in the body. It also binds to two other receptors, including those associated with male hormones like testosterone and thyroid hormones. When altered, these imbalanced hormones eventually lead to serious illness.

Some argue that the liver filters out most BPA from the body within a few hours anyway, but scientific studies have shown that this is not the case. Julia Taylor, a biologist at the University of Missouri, conducted a study on both mice and monkeys which revealed that some BPA stays in the blood and remains "biologically active" long after exposure. And such findings can be extrapolated from monkeys and mice to humans because these animals process BPA in similar ways to humans.

"These data should make us reconsider some previously held hypotheses about BPA, such as how quickly it is cleared from the body and the differences in metabolism between species," emphasized Linda Birnbaum, director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, concerning the findings.

Stop GMOs

(www.Borganic.org) The fight against genetic modification (GM) seems like a never-ending, uphill battle. But Lord Melchett, former director of Greenpeace and current policy director at the Soil Association, says that, despite what the biotechnology giants would have you believe, most nations of the world are rejecting GMs and thus preventing their takeover of the planet.

"[M]any people in Europe may be unaware of the extent of the resistance to GM in places like India and China, because they swallow the GM industry line that it is supported all across the world," he was cited as saying in The Independent. "I have to say that where we are now with GM leaves me feeling very optimistic."

A quick visit to the website of GM-giant Monsanto, for instance, indicates that what Melchett says is true. Fancy, deceptive marketing and design tactics would have you believe that the world is lovingly embracing the alleged wonders of GM crops, but this is hardly the case. In fact, the only reason GMs even have any foothold at all is because, in some countries, they have been deceitfully approved beneath the radar of the general public.

But as the general public has begun to learn more about GMs -- and the fact that they are dishonestly hidden and unlabeled in the U.S. food supply -- things are beginning to change. In recent years, several new GM crops have been defeated due to public opposition.

"America is where we're told GM is a huge success...but it's simply not true," said Melchett at the recent Sustainable Planet forum in Lyon, France. "If anybody tells you this, ask them, where is GM wheat? Monsanto had it ready to go but it was stopped by American farmers. Ask them, where is the GM version of alfalfa, the fourth most commonly grown crop in the world? American farmers went to court to stop it being commercialized."

Continued efforts are needed to stop GM crops from gaining any further ground, and with enough dedication, the outspoken public may even help reverse the tide.

(www.Borganic.org) For countless centuries, turmeric has been used not only as a spice but as a healing aid in traditional Asian medicine. For example, historically it has been consumed to help gastrointestinal problems, arthritic pain, and a lack of energy. And in recent years, scientists have documented that tumeric and the natural compound it contains called curcumin may protect and heal due to anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties.

In fact, as NaturalNews previously reported, researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have found that curcumin, when combined with piperine (a component of black pepper), could play an important role in preventing and even treating breast cancer (http://www.naturalnews.com/027831_t...). Now a new study published in the gastroenterology and hepatology journal Gut suggests curcumin could be a treatment for yet another serious health problem -- liver damage and cirrhosis.

"Chronic cholangiopathies (bile duct diseases) have limited therapeutic options and represent an important indication for liver transplantation. Curcumin, the yellow pigment of the spice turmeric, has pleiotropic (multiple effect) actions and attenuates hepatic damage in animal models of chemically-induced liver injury," the authors of the study, scientists in the division of gastroenterology and heptology at Medical University Graz in Austria, wrote.

So what causes bile duct problems? Genetic predispositions, injury, infections, and drinking alcohol to excess are all possible causes. The reason bile duct diseases are so dangerous -- and sometimes fatal -- is that when the liver's bile ducts swell they can scar and become irreversibly blocked. This causes serious liver damage to develop, leading to fatal cirrhosis.

Bottom line: bile duct diseases are life threatening and mainstream medicine has come up with few ways to help other than liver transplants. However, there's now tantalizing evidence that curcumin may help heal livers naturally.

For their study, the Austrian research team gave curcumin to lab mice who had chemically induced liver injuries. After consuming diets supplemented with curcumin for four to eight weeks, the rodents' liver damage was dramatically lessened. What's more, the addition of the spice component to the animals' food improved a serious liver condition known as sclerosing cholangitis, an autoimmune disorder.

In their paper, the researchers theorized that curcumin has multiple beneficial effects on liver health. For instance, they noted that the spice component blocked signal pathways necessary for inflammation to occur -- and that, in turn, slowed the progress of scarring which leads to reduced bile duct blockage and damage to liver cells.

(www.Borganic.org) For years, the predominant cause of injury-related deaths in the United States has been traffic accidents. However, recent data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) indicates that 16 states now see more drug-related deaths than any other type of injury-related death and that number is rapidly growing.

Some of the key findings in the report include a more than tripling of opioid analgesic-induced deaths between 1999 and 2006. In 2006, roughly 40 percent of all poisoning deaths were caused by opioid analgesics. In the 35 to 54 age group, these drugs are the leading cause of death overall in the United States. Fatal opioid analgesic-related overdose poisonings represent the fastest increasing segment of overall deaths caused by poisonings.

Opioid analgesics are pain medications typically prescribed to treat temporary pain. Among those cited as embodying the greatest increase in deaths is methadone, a pain reliever that was responsible for the greatest increase in deaths between 1999 and 2006 and the one that witnessed a sevenfold increase in deaths. Other killers include benzodiazepine sedatives, OxyContin (oxycodone), and Vicodin (acetaminophen and hydrocodone).

While it is unclear in each specific case whether the drugs were obtained legally through prescription or illegally, the report does specify that at least half of the deaths were caused by legal opiate prescriptions. It also indicates that many deaths are caused by a combination of various opiates which may or may not include illegal opiates.

Beginning in the 1990s at the behest of drug company prodding, doctors began to increasingly prescribe painkillers to patients for all sorts of symptoms. As a result, one in five adults today and one in ten kids receive some sort of opiate prescription from their doctors every year. Interestingly, the corresponding data from this report and others concludes that the increase in opiate prescriptions is directly correlated with the increase in deaths from opiate overdoses, pointing the finger at pharmaceutical opiates rather than the illegal street kind.

A study published last December in the Journal of the American Medical Association examined the threat of prescription opiate abuse and subsequent injury and death statistics, implicating prescription opiates as the leading cause of drug overdose deaths in the U.S. Also specifying that legal purchases of methadone have increased more than 13-fold in the past ten years along with a nine-fold increase in OxyContin prescriptions, the study is a clear indictment not only of doctor abuse in over-prescribing drugs but in the inherently addictive nature of the drugs themselves.

Many young teens who become addicted to opiates such as OxyContin eventually progress to cheap forms of heroin that they can snort and even inject. For this reason, heroin has become a widespread problem both in suburban youth enclaves as well as in the inner city. Because prescription opiates are highly addictive, many people of all ages become "junkies" who are constantly looking for a fix, whether through a prescription or through an illegal street drug.

In a 2007 survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, it was discovered that 2.1 million people ages 12 and older who had tried an illicit drug in 2007 elected for prescription pain drugs as their drug of choice, a figure 57,000 higher than those who chose marijuana. Many of these same people graduate to heroin within just a few years.

During the same year, Purdue Pharma was charged by the FDA's Office of Criminal Investigations with a "conspiracy" to illegally market its drug using various fraudulent methods. One method included working with professional medical organizations to alter the prescription guidelines for OxyContin to include those with chronic pain in addition to those with temporary aches. Purdue Pharma was fined $700 million, an amount considered by many to be pittance when compared to the thousands of deaths that have been directly caused by the abuse of OxyContin. To this day, the drug remains on the market despite the fact that the company has been criminally convicted in U.S. Federal Court on felony charges for its illegal actions surrounding this dangerous drug.

The entire controversy is yet another case-in-point example of the deadly consequences of pharmaceutical drugs and the companies that produce them. What would immediately unleash the widespread confiscation and elimination of all natural herbs and supplements warrants only appeasement fines by the very agencies that are sworn to protect the people, not the drug lords. Until pharmaceutical companies are held responsible for the damage caused by their products, states will continue to ratchet up drug-induced fatalities as their number one cause of death.

This low-sugar fruit cuts your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure

(www.Borganic.org) Two new studies add to the growing body of research about the many health benefits of consuming blueberries. Researchers from Pennington Biomedical Research Center (PBRC) have found that blueberries help to prevent obesity-related insulin resistance, which leads to type 2 diabetes, while researchers from Oklahoma State University (OSU) have found similar success in using blueberries to prevent hypertension.

Published in the October issue of The Journal of Nutrition, the PBRC study found that obese participants who consumed blueberry-rich smoothies twice a day for 42 days experienced an increase in insulin sensitivity compared to participants who consumed an equally nutritious, but blueberry-free, smoothie twice a day for the same time period.

None of the participants had diabetes at the time of the study, but the blueberry compounds appeared to actually regulate the obesity-related insulin factors that are implicated in causing pre-diabetes and diabetes.

"We now know that compounds in blueberries may help obese, non-diabetic individuals maintain healthy blood glucose levels," explained Dr. April Stull, a researcher at PBRC.

In the OSU study, which was also published in The Journal of Nutrition, researchers observed that patients with pre-hypertension -- that is, elevated blood pressure levels that are not quite at full hypertension levels -- responded well to drinking a beverage once a day for eight weeks that contained two cups of blended blueberries.

According to Arpita Basu, professor of nutritional sciences at OSU and author of the study, the blueberry group saw an average drop of seven-to-eight points in systolic blood pressure by the end of the evaluation period.

"Many patients rely too heavily on medication to help control blood glucose," explained Basu. "A diet that includes blueberries is a component of a healthier lifestyle that also includes diet and exercise."

However a recent Fox News report suggests that people might benefit from taking even more. That report indicates that people can take up to a teaspoon a day of cinnamon for good health.

Since cinnamon is a food and not a drug, it is safe to consume even higher amounts than these if you choose. But it is important to obtain non-irradiated cinnamon in order to get the maximum therapeutic benefits from it. If you are unsure whether or not the cinnamon you buy is irradiated, it is best to contact the manufacturer to verify.

Bill Clinton has apparently made a courageous decision to pursue a plant-based diet and thereby save his own life. Notably, such a move would have been impossible during his presidency due to a strong political backlash from the dairy and meat industries who continue to push their disease-promoting foods on the population.

Kudos to Clinton for embracing a lifesaving diet that will undoubtedly help him live longer and healthier. That he took on this diet is also a powerful demonstration of how the plant-based diet is going mainstream.

Baby formula Are Contaminated With Aluminum

(www.Borganic.org) The aluminum content of a range of the most popular brands of infant formulas remains high, and particularly so for a product designed for preterm infants and a soya-based product designed for infants with cow's milk intolerances and allergies, researchers have found.


Aluminum is the third most abundant element (8%) in the Earth's crust, exceeded by oxygen (47%) and silicon (28%). The United States is the world's largest aluminum producer, followed by Canada, Australia, Norway, Brazil, and Germany. The United States is also the world's largest aluminum consumer.

One wonders, after examining all the different areas covered our various analyses (vaccinations and encephalopathy, electromagnetics, etc) if orthodox science is really ignorant of the sensitivity of infants and children to environmental contamination, or know about it and they don’t care because there is another agenda afoot.

The permeability of the gastrointestinal tract of the infant is quite great, as protective mechanisms have not yet fully developed. It is this very fact that allows many of the substances in human mother’s milk to systemically permeate the body of the infant.

Unfortunately, the same lack of protection seriously impairs an infant who consumes infant formula, especially soy formulas, and bovine (cow) milk. Whether the pasteurization process (aluminum vats and piping) contributes to the amount of aluminum in milk, or it involves the feed the animal is eating, is unknown.

Research indicates that aluminum concentrations in most cow milk is 20 times greater than human breast milk (5-20 mcg/l) and 100 times greater in soy-based formulas.

A study by a team at Keele University in Staffordshire, led by Dr Chris Exley with Shelle-Ann M Burrell, demonstrating the vulnerability of infants to early exposure to aluminum serves to highlight an urgent need to reduce the aluminum content of infant formulas to as-low-a-level as is practically possible. The research has been published in the journal BMC Pediatrics.

Infant formulas are integral to the nutritional requirements of preterm and term infants. While it has been known for decades that infant formulas are contaminated with significant amounts of aluminum there is little evidence that manufacturers consider this to be a health issue. Aluminum is non-essential and is linked to human disease. There is evidence of both immediate and delayed toxicity in infants, and especially preterm infants, exposed to aluminum and the team contends that there is still too much aluminum in infant formulas.

There has been a long and significant history documenting the contamination of infant formulas by aluminum and consequent health effects in children. Through these and other publications manufacturers of infant formulas have been made fully aware of the potentially compounded issue of both the contamination by aluminum and the heightened vulnerability, from the point of view of a newborn's developing physiology, of infants fed such formulas.

There have been similar warnings over several decades in relation to aluminum toxicity and parenteral nutrition of preterm and term infants. To these ends the expectation would be that the aluminum content of current infant formulas would at the very least be historically low and at best would be as low as might be achieved for a processed product. The team tested this premise and found that the aluminum content of a range of branded infant formulas remains too high.

The researchers chose 15 different branded infant formula products. These included powdered and ready-made liquid formulas based on cow's milk and a soya-based product. The categories of formulas included those for preterm babies, stage one (0-6 months) and stage two (6 months plus) infants. All products were stored according to the manufacturer's instructions. Products were sampled directly from their packaging to avoid extraneous contamination. Ready-made liquid products were shaken between each sampling.

In general, the aluminum content of formulas prepared from powdered milks were significantly higher than ready-made milks.

Commercially available branded infant formulas used by literally millions of parents to feed children of up to 12 months-plus of age are still significantly contaminated with aluminum. The concentrations of aluminum in the milk formulas varied from ca 200 -- 700 μg/L and would result in the ingestion of up to 600 μg of aluminum per day.

The concentrations of aluminum in infant formulas are up to 40 times higher than are present in breast milk. These concentrations are all several times higher than are allowed in drinking water. They are clearly too high for human consumption and certainly too high for consumption by such a vulnerable group as pre-term and term infants.

Similac recall 2010 | Poison baby milk

(www.Borganic.org) An investigation by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found that nearly all infant formulas are packaged in containers that contain the dangerous toxin bisphenol A.

The EWG surveyed the top five manufacturers of baby formulas sold in the United States about the packaging of their containers. All five, including the makers of Nestle, Similac, Enfamil and PBM formulas, acknowledged the use of bisphenol A in the lining of metal liquid formula containers. Among makers of powdered formulas, four of the five top manufacturers also admitted to using bisphenol A to line metal portions of containers.

Nestle denied using bisphenol A in the containers of powdered formula, but the EWG notes that the company "failed to provide EWG with reliable documentation of their alternative packaging, and thus is not a clear improvement over other types."

In addition, the EWG expressed reservations over endorsing Nestle products due to the company's history of unethical infant formula marketing practices in Third World countries.

Bisphenol A is widely used to make plastics hard and translucent and to line metal cans. It is known to disrupt the hormonal system of vertebrates, causing reproductive and developmental defects, including brain damage and neurobehavioral problems. It is considered particularly dangerous to developing animals, such as humans exposed during fetal development or in early childhood.

Recent studies have also shown that bisphenol A exposure during development can lead to cancer later in life, and that it may be linked to obesity.

Two separate National Institutes of Health panels have expressed concern over the chemical. A panel of 38 bisphenol A experts recently concluded that average levels of the chemical in humans are higher than those that have been known to cause harm in animal experiments.

Recent publicity about the presence of bisphenol A has caused an increase in the popularity of glass baby bottles, but the EWG warns that the liquid formula itself is probably more dangerous.

"Testing by EWG and by the FDA indicates that under normal use, liquid formula itself could expose an infant to substantially more BPA than a plastic bottle," the organization said.

According to EWG calculations, one in every 16 liquid-formula-fed children is exposed to higher doses of bisphenol A than have been shown to cause harm in laboratory studies. In contrast, powdered formula exposes children to anywhere from 8 to 20 times less of the chemical.

Because any exposure is considered dangerous, the EWG emphasized that breast feeding is the most healthy choice.

"Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for babies," the group said. "It contains essential fatty acids that help bolster babies' bodies against the impacts of toxic chemicals."

"However, there are many reasons why families rely on formula for some or all of their baby's diet," the group added. For this reason, "formula should be manufactured in a way that avoids contamination with harmful chemicals."

For parents who must feed their children from formula, the EWG recommends a few steps to reduce bisphenol A exposure. In addition to choosing powdered formula, parents can select the brands that are packaged with the least metal.

"Powdered formula sold by Enfamil and Similac are reduced-risk choices, because only the metal tops and bottoms of their packages – not the cardboard sides – are metal and lined with BPA-based plastic," the organization said.

Ironically, Earth's Best Organic is sold in an entirely metal can, and the whole surface is lined with bisphenol A.

For those who must use liquid formulas, EWG recommends formulas sold in plastic containers. Among liquid formulas sold in metal containers, the ready-to-eat are the most dangerous. In contrast, formulas that must be diluted with water will supply a lower dose of bisphenol A.

Save his presidency | Obama health care, war puppets

(www.Borganic.org) President Obama’s ominous claim that America can “absorb” a terror attack will have many fearing that staging some kind of false flag event will be the only way the government can overturn the massive resistance to big government that has grown exponentially since Obama took office.

During an interview with journalist Bob Woodward, the president said, “We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger.”

However, the only thing that was made stronger by 9/11 was the federal government’s power to harass, shake down and spy on the American people, as was exemplified yet again recently when Pennsylvania’s Office of Homeland Security was caught conducting surveillance on peaceful protest groups with the aid of an Israeli security company who listed Second Amendment groups amongst others as terrorists.

Given how both Bush and Clinton before him exploited terror attacks on U.S. soil to boost their flagging political agendas, we should be wary of Obama and his masters making good use of their own “October surprise” to counter record low approval figures for Congress on the eve of the midterm elections.

Talk show hosts such as Michael Savage have long been warning of a “Reichstag fire-like event” would be concocted to reinvigorate support behind Obama and given that his advisors include such ruthless individuals as Rahm Emanuel, the knife wielding son of a former Israeli terrorist who was involved in bombing hotels, marketplaces as well as massacres, we would be naive to put anything past these people.

Indeed, it was only two months ago that former Clinton advisor Robert Shapiro wrote in the Financial Times that the only thing that could save Obama’s tenuous grip on power was a terror attack on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11.

“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” said Shapiro, adding, “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”

Shapiro was clearly communicating the necessity for a terror attack to be launched in order to give Obama the opportunity to unite the country around his agenda in the name of fighting terrorists, just as President Bush did in the aftermath of 9/11 when his approval ratings shot up from around 50% to well above 80%.

Similarly, Bill Clinton was able to extinguish an anti-incumbent rebellion which was brewing in the mid 1990’s by exploiting the OKC bombing to demonize his political enemies as right-wing extremists. As Jack Cashill points out, Clinton “descended on Oklahoma City with an approval rating in the low 40s and left town with a rating well above 50 and the Republican revolution buried in the rubble.”

Only by exploiting a domestic terror attack which can be blamed on right-wing radicals, or by rallying the country round another war in the middle east, can Obama hope to reverse the tide of anti-incumbency candidates that threaten to drastically dilute the power monopoly of establishment candidates from both major political parties in Washington.

Not enough fruit in the U.S. food supply to keep population healthy

(www.Borganic.org) Not enough fruits and vegetables are produced or imported to supply every resident of the United States with a healthy diet, researchers from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) have concluded.

"If everyone wanted to eat healthily, there would not be enough," said the institute's Susan Krebs-Smith.

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the NCI researchers analyzed how much food of various kinds is produced, imported and distributed in the United States. They also calculated national rates of exercise.

The researchers found that there are not enough fresh fruits and vegetables in the U.S. food supply to supply the recommended five servings per person per day. In part, this food shortage may be produced by lack of demand due to unhealthy eating habits.

"Our intakes of fruit are low," Krebs-Smith said. "Our intake of vegetables is low but especially our intake of dark green and orange vegetables and legumes."

Supplies of less-healthy but more popular foods, on the other hand, are abundant.

"The fruit in the food supply is about half what it needs to be, but we have plenty of calories from fat and added sugars," Krebs-Smith said.

"The food supply does supply enough meat and beans."

To make matters worse, studies suggest that the typical U.S. eater drastically underestimates the amount of junk food they eat. And while a maximum of about 11 percent of a person's daily calories should come from sugary or fatty snacks, the typical U.S. consumer actually relies on such foods for 38 percent of their daily energy intake.

At the same time, the National Cancer Institute found that less than 5 percent of the U.S. population gets the recommended minimum of 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day. Yet 30 to 40 percent of those polled consistently estimate that they get enough exercise.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that obesity and physical inactivity together are responsible for 25 to 30 percent of breast, colon, endometrial, esophageal and kidney cancers.

Naturally Prevent, Soothe and Heal Cracked Heels and Feet

(www.Borganic.org) Cracked heels and other foot cracks are usually caused by a combination of pressure and dry, non-pliable skin. Standing and walking applies pressure which makes the skin on the bottom of the feet expand sideways. If the skin is not sufficiently pliable, cracking can result. Known medically as heel fissures, cracked heels are linear cut wounds which usually affect the surface level, or epidermis, of the heel. When the cracks extend beyond the epidermis, they can result in pain, bleeding and even infection. Fortunately, there are several natural remedies for treating and preventing cracked heels.

Cracked heels are most often a result of lack of proper foot care and may also be caused by dietary deficiencies. In particular, diets which fail to provide adequate zinc and essential omega-3 fatty acids may contribute to cracked heels and other dry skin problems. Zinc rich foods include oysters, organic chicken, crab, kidney beans, yogurt, and brown rice. Omega-3 fatty acids are largely found in cold water fish and healthy oils such as flaxseed.

Other important vitamins and minerals include:

-Vitamin E, which is found in green vegetables, wheat germ, whole-grain products and nuts.
-Calcium, which can be found in organic raw certified cow or goat milk, organic cheeses, yogurt, dark leafy vegetables and broccoli. Most people get plenty of calcium but fail to get the essential mineral magnesium which is necessary for proper absorption and utilization of calcium.

Some suggestions for easy foot care which can help prevent cracked heels are:

Remedies for Cracked Heels and Feet

One of the most effective remedies for getting rid of foot cracks and dry heels is using foot socks in combination with healing oils and moisturizers. Before going to sleep, liberally apply one or more oils such as almond, grapeseed oil and/or olive oil to the heels and feet, put on a pair of thick cotton socks and then leave on all night. Other good oils and moisturizers include: lanolin, cocoa butter, shea butter, and coconut oil.

Another great remedy for dry, crusty or "alligator skin" is raw papaya. Papaya contains papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins and which has been referred to as "organic alpha-hydroxy substitute". Pineapple contains a similar enzyme, but it's much easier to mash a piece of papaya and use it like a masque on your heels than it is to use pineapple.

Milk and honey can be very effective for obtaining softer, smoother feet without harsh exfoliation. Pour one cup of honey per each two cups of milk into a basin large enough to hold both feet. Soak for 15 minutes, lightly massaging the mixture into skin. You can also use the milk/honey combo to soak elbows or hands, or pat gently onto the face and massage in. Rinse with tepid water

Other natural remedies for cracked heels include:

-Apply the pulp of a ripe banana on the dry or cracked area. Leave it on for 10 minutes and rinse clean. Continue doing this at least once daily as long as needed.

-Soak the feet in lemon juice for about 10 minutes. Continue every day as needed.

-Regularly apply a mixture of glycerin and rosewater.

Popular Asian spice can cure Alzheimer's disease

"People who develop Alzheimer's disease get a sticky plaque in the brain called amyloid beta," explained Kilham to Dr. Manny Alvarez in a recent Fox News interview. However studies show that turmeric actually eliminates these plaques, both when they are first starting to form and even during the late stages of their advancement.

"What we have in turmeric is something that appears to inhibit the development of Alzheimer's disease…and actually help to reduce the occurrence of plaque in the brain if you have it," noted Kilham. "We know in animal studies, when animals actually have amyloid beta plaque in their brains and they're given turmeric root…that plaque is reduced."

Observational studies have also shown that people groups who eat large amounts of turmeric virtually never get Alzheimer's.

"In countries where people consume a lot of [turmeric], there's a very low incidence of Alzheimer's disease," emphasized Kilham. "In India and Southeast Asia, it's a rare disease. And [in the U.S.] it's very, very common."

According to Kilham, drug companies are hard at work trying to develop drug versions of turmeric, but he recommends eating real turmeric whenever possible, and taking turmeric extract supplements if eating the spice in food is not an option.

"A challenge that we face is that drug companies…can't patent turmeric root," he said. "So they will continue to try to develop something else. [But] eating turmeric, eating its extracts…appears to be protective against one of the most horrific and debilitating diseases we know."

(www.Borganic.org) Taking a daily 10 to 15 minute walk in the sun not only clears your head, relieves stress and increases circulation – it could also cut your risk of breast cancer in half. At least that's what Esther John, an epidemiologist at the Northern California Cancer Center, recommends. And there's plenty of proof to back her up. One study found that sunlight exposure lowered the risk of breast cancer by 30 to 40 percent. In The Breast Cancer Prevention Diet, Dr. Robert Arnot claims that national rates of breast cancer inversely correlate to solar radiation exposure. In other words, breast cancer occurs at a much higher rate in colder, cloudier northern regions than in sunnier southern regions. Johns Hopkins University Medical School conducted a ten-year epidemiological study that showed exposure to full-spectrum light (including the ultraviolet frequencies) is positively related to the prevention of breast, colon and rectal cancers.

How does this work? There is in fact a scientific answer. The sun stimulates production of a hormone in your skin. Ultraviolet B rays, the kind of rays that give you sunburns, interact with a special cholesterol in unblocked skin. Once stimulated, this cholesterol triggers your liver and kidney to make vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 isn't exactly a vitamin, but rather a type of steroid hormone that can drastically improve your immune system function.

Vitamin D3 also controls cellular growth and helps you absorb calcium from your digestive tract. Most importantly, this hormone/vitamin inhibits the growth of cancer cells. In laboratory tests performed on animals, vitamin D3 inhibited the growth of malignant melanoma, breast cancer, leukemia and mammary tumors. Vitamin D3 also slowed down angiogenesis, which aids the growth of cancer cells. Vitamin D3 stops cancer-aiding blood vessels from being formed, curbing the tumor's ability to spread and disrupt other functions in the body. Donald R. Yance Jr. writes that vitamin D3 may also inhibit the activity of hormones such as estrogen in breast cancer, thereby decreasing its spread.

Since high doses of vitamin D3 are toxic, scientists have formulated vitamin D derivatives that can be administered to breast cancer patients. In tests, these derivatives have stopped the proliferation of breast cancer cells and sometimes have actually decreased the size of experimental mammary tumors. Further findings like these might point to yet another undiscovered function of vitamin D3: regulating the expression of protein products that prevent and even inhibit breast cancer.

There is a concern relevant to this issue. Haven't we been told for the last 10 years to stay out of the sun? What about skin cancer? Dr. Richard Hobday, author of The Healing Sun, says our fear of the sun does more harm than good. Most recommended daily sunscreens block ultraviolet B rays, the same rays that trigger the production of vitamin D. The number of people who die from breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis -- all maladies that sunlight could benefit -- is far greater than the number of deaths from skin cancer. After reviewing 50 years of medical literature on cancer, Dr. Gordon Ainsleigh concluded that the benefits of regular sun exposure outweigh the risks of squamous-basal skin cancer, accelerated ageing and melanoma.

Despite the obvious advantages, most Americans are not getting enough vitamin D. Massachusetts General Hospital recently found that 59 percent of hospitalized patients had too little vitamin D in their bloodstream. Many experts infer that the Massachusetts vitamin D deficiency is almost as widespread in the general American population. Evidence also suggests that people with heavily pigmented skin (darker skin color) require more sunlight for adequate vitamin D production.

Gates death panels | Rise of the new Killers

(www.Borganic.org) Bill Gates’ advocacy for “death panels” has caused controversy amongst conservative commentators, but the real outrage behind the story has been completely overlooked – the fact that Gates is a hardcore eugenicist and has called for lowering the global population through vaccines which his foundation funds to the tune of billions.

Gates’ “death panel” comments were actually made over two months ago at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen Colorado, but they only garnered attention when the video clip appeared on numerous conservative websites on Sunday, including Breitbart.tv and The Blaze.

The Aspen Ideas Festival is a project of the Aspen Institute. The Aspen Institute is primarily funded by foundations such as the Carnegie Corporation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Ford Foundation. In 1952, the Rockefellers established the Population Council, a eugenics operation.

Jurriaan Maessen and other researchers have documented how the Rockefeller Foundation has pioneered “anti-fertility vaccines” and worked with the UN Population Fund, World Bank and World Health Organization to reduce world population. “Just four years after the Rockefeller Foundation launched massive funding-operations into anti-fertility vaccines, the Task Force was created under auspices of the World Health Organization, World Bank and UN Population Fund,” writes Maessen.

The Carnegie Institution established a laboratory complex at Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island in 1904 that stockpiled millions of index cards on ordinary Americans, as researchers carefully plotted the removal of families, bloodlines and whole peoples. “From Cold Spring Harbor, eugenics advocates agitated in the legislatures of America, as well as the nation’s social service agencies and associations,” Edwin Black wrote for the San Francisco Chronicle in 2003.

In the United States, key eugenic organizations funded by the Rockefeller, Harriman and Carnegie families included the American Eugenics Society, and its sister organization, the American Society of Human Genetics established in 1947, the above mentioned Cold Springs Harbor Experimental Station for the Study of Evolution, the Eugenic Record Office, and the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research.

During a question and answer session at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Gates implied that elderly patients undergoing expensive health care treatments should be killed and the money spent elsewhere.

Gates said there was a “lack of willingness” to consider the question of choosing between “spending a million dollars on that last three months of life for that patient” or laying off ten teachers.

“But that’s called the death panel and you’re not supposed to have that discussion,” added Gates.

The Microsoft owner’s advocacy for killing granny in the name of spending the money elsewhere strikes at the root of why so many Americans are outraged over Obamacare, which contains as one of its core components a cost/benefit board which will be able to refuse care to elderly patients, proving that death panels will indeed come into force despite establishment media PR campaigns to convince the public otherwise.

Prior to the passage of Obamacare, the corporate media excoriated critics of the plan for mentioning inclusion of death panels. As Joseph Ashby notes, however, death panels were established before Obamacare was enacted.

The Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly known as the Stimulus Bill, provided more than a billion dollars to fund the Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research. The Council was devised by former Health and Human Services Secretary Nominee Tom Daschle. “Daschle’s stated purpose (and therefore President Obama’s purpose) for creating the Council is to empower an unelected bureaucracy to make the hard decisions about health care rationing that elected politicians are politically unable to make,” writes Ashby.

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, sits on the Council. Avoid the Soda: Water Consumption is Necessary for Your Body

(www.Borganic.org) Consuming water is of the utmost necessity to our bodies. The average human body is 60-65 % water and the human brain tissue is 85 % water. In fact, water is most essential to the body - next to air. The body can survive four weeks without food but only three days without water. Not one of your body processes can take place without water. Soda pop is the cause of many health problems.

Water is essential for transportation of nutrients, hormones, toxins and waste products. Your daily energy depends on water and the lack of water is the number one trigger of daytime fatigue, since water is a cleanser, a healer and is necessary to maintain constant body temperature. Your body needs about three quarts of water per day under normal conditions---more under other circumstances. Foods provide 1 1/2 quarts of water and fruits and vegetables more than 90 per cent. Enough water is needed to keep skin soft and supple, your brain sharp, and your elimination system regular. Water is a diet aid, a fat reducer, and in addition, reduces sodium build-up.

Your body contains a variety of necessary fluids---about 42 quarts in all. They are: blood, bile, pancreatic juice, gastrointestinal, cerebrospinal and synovial fluids, urine, aqueous humor, and others. These fluids are dependent upon your intake of water and other liquids.

Some of the things adequate water can do for you: treat allergies, asthma, depression, high blood pressure, diabetes, headaches, chronic fatigue, colitis, alcohol dependency and general pain. Eight to ten glasses of water a day can significantly ease back and joint pain.

Seventy-five percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Caffeine in coffee, tea, and colas acts as diuretic and results in water retention. A mere 2 % drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and a focusing differential. Five glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, breast cancer by 79%, and bladder cancer by 50%.

With all the assumed water consumption today the average American still drinks an estimated 56 gallons of soda each year. In the past ten years soft drink usage among teenagers and children has almost doubled. The active ingredient in soda pop is phosphoric acid which interferes with absorption of calcium resulting in softening of the teeth and bones. Bones become weakened and are prone to fracture. Phosphoric acid also disrupts digestion by neutralizing the hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Sugar is an issue with soft drinks. A can of pop has about 10 teaspoons of sugar and 150 calories. Sugar increases insulin levels which can lead to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, premature aging and many more negative side effects.Soft drink manufacturers are the largest single users of refined sugar in the U.S. Aspartame is the chemical sugar substitute in diet soda. There are over 92 different health side effects as a result of aspartame consumption. Some of these are: brain tumors, birth defects, diabetes, emotional disorders and epilepsy/seizures.

Another unhealthy component of soda is caffeine of which there is 30-55 mg per can. Caffeine can cause jitters, insomnia, high blood pressure, irregular heart beat, high blood cholesterol levels, vitamin and mineral depletion, breast lumps, birth defects and possibly some forms of cancer.In addition, soda pop contains food coloring and nitrites.

Nutritionally speaking, soda pop is the cause of many health problems. Drinking soda leaves you with little appetite for vegetables, protein and other foods your body needs.

GM sugar beet scandal leads to lawsuit against USDA

(www.Borganic.org) Last month, U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey White from California's Northern District Court in San Francisco ruled that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) approval of genetically-modified (GM) sugar beets was unlawful, and that no further plantings were permitted to take place until a proper safety assessment is conducted. Several groups have announced, however, that they are filing a lawsuit against the USDA for violating the court ruling by permitting GM seed producers like Monsanto Co. to plant them anyway.

According to a recent Reuters report, the USDA decided to begin issuing permits to GM sugar beet producers, allowing them to plant the "Frankencrops" as long as they do not flower. But the Center for Food Safety and the Sierra Club, two of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, allege that this decision not only threatens to contaminate nearby fields, but violates the court ruling as well.

Roughly 50 percent of U.S. sugar production currently comes from GM sugar beets. However according to the plaintiffs, the court ruling effectively banned all future plantings of GM sugar beets, allowing only those currently growing to be harvested. After harvest, the seeds must be culled and no longer used.

That GM sugar beets were ever planted in the first place was ruled unlawful by the court, because the USDA lacked the conclusive safety evidence it needed to actually approve them in the first place. So the recent court ruling requires that the USDA formulate an Environmental Impact Statement showing that the crops are safe for human consumption.

In the meantime, it is unclear what GM sugar beet farmers will be planting for next year's crop, as some reports indicate that reverting back to non-GM sugar beets may not be feasible.

Male fish now exhibiting female traits due to toxic chemicals and pharma runoff

(www.Borganic.org) More than 80 percent of male bass in the Potomac River on the U.S. Atlantic coast are producing eggs or showing other female traits, the nonprofit Potomac Conservancy has warned, in a call for more research into the causes of intersex fish.

In a recent U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) report, intersex fish were found in a third of all 111 sites tested across the United States, including in major waterways such as the Mississippi River and the Rio Grande. The phenomenon occurred in 16 different species, but was most common in male smallmouth and largemouth bass.

Researchers agree that the phenomenon is almost certainly caused by the presence of pollutants in the water, including endocrine- (hormone) disrupting chemicals and the residue of pharmaceutical products.

"We have not been able to identify one particular chemical or one particular source," said USGS biologist Vicki Blazer. "We are still trying to get a handle on what chemicals are important."

Among the chemicals likely to be contributing to the problem, Blazer cited birth control pills and other hormone-containing drugs, antibacterial products including tissues, personal care products (especially those containing fragrances), flame retardants, pesticides and fertilizers.

"In fertilizer [and pesticides] there's natural estrogen and testosterone and other things ... so if we can hopefully pinpoint some of those mixtures or individual chemicals that then perhaps we could manage better," Blazer said.

It has been hard to narrow down the list of major contributors, however. For example, Blazer tested fish up- and downstream of sewage treatment plants to see if the factories might be major sources of endocrine-disrupting pollutants. She found no difference in rates of sexual abnormalities.

The Potomac Conservancy has called for more research into the problem.

"We've got to figure out what the heck is going on here," said the group's president, Hedrick Belin. "And we've got to figure it out sooner rather than later because it's clear the longer this mystery continues it's only going to lead to bad things yet to be discovered."

Because the hormonal systems of all vertebrates are strikingly similar, anything that has an impact on fish living in water is likely to have an effect on humans drinking it, as well. Yet figuring out the specific effects of tainted water on people may prove difficult.

"Because fish, of course, are in the water all the time," Blazer said. "But what's in your drinking water, what you might be exposed to through skin and food and everything else, is another issue for people."

Even if researchers eventually figure out which chemicals are the major contributors to sexual deformity in fish, that may shed little light on the question.

"It's going to be a lot harder to get to how these chemicals affect people because of course you can't experiment on people," Blazer said.

Approximately 4.5 million residents of the Washington D.C. area get their drinking water from the Potomac.

According to the Potomac Conservancy, individuals can help reduce watershed pollution in part by making more careful purchasing decisions. Consumers should reduce their use of toxic chemicals such as pesticides, and look for more natural cosmetics and other products.

"The chemicals that are in personal care products such as some of the antimicrobials, fragrances, are endocrine disruptors," said Blazer. "So being smart about the kinds of products you're buying -- because they are available in things that are fragrance-free, antimicrobial-free, things like that -- are things that individuals can do."

Conservancy supporter Rep. James P. Moran of Virginia has urged people to always take old or unused drugs back to a pharmacy for disposal.

"Don't flush pharmaceuticals down the toilet," he said. "They don't disappear when you flush them."

The Potomac Conservancy is also working on a campaign to get pharmaceutical technologies to dispose of drugs more safely, and calling for better water filtration technology.

"We need to get these toxins out of our river water," Belin said.

Tell the FDA 'NO!' to GMO fish

(www.Borganic.org) Consumers may soon have a new "Frankenfood" to contend with as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will soon decide whether or not to approve genetically-modified (GM) salmon as food. If approved, the GM salmon -- known as AquAdvantage -- will be the first GM animal officially authorized for human consumption in the U.S.

Aqua Bounty Technologies Inc., the company responsible for the new "Frankenfish", has been seeking approval for it from the FDA since 1995. By programming salmon genes to continuously produce growth hormone, scientists from the company have been able to make their engineered fish grow to full size in less than 250 days, as opposed to the 400 days it takes for a natural Atlantic salmon to grow. This, they say, will improve the fish economy and reduce environmental stress.

The company claims that the fish are sterile, pose no environmental or health threats and taste just like the real thing, but not everyone is convinced. In fact, previous studies have shown just the opposite to be true.

Frankenfish are more likely to breed, then die off

In 1999, researchers from Purdue University found that transgenic fish are more attractive to other fish because of their abnormally large size. So more often than not, they beat out real fish in attracting breeding mates, which can cause serious problems if introduced into the wild.

The same study also found that the offspring of transgenic fish live very short lives. So over time, native fish will eventually become extinct in the presence of even a few transgenic fish. According to the university report, 60 fertile GM fish placed in a population of 60,000 native fish could destroy the entire native stock in as little as 20 years.

Despite claims that this could never occur because the fish are sterile, many experts say that the DNA in GM fish will mutate over time and cause them to be able to breed. They could then spread their DNA to other species, altering the genetic makeup of fish everywhere.

"Once you have bombarded an animal with other genes, the DNA is unstable, and there is no guarantee these fish remain sterile," explained Lord Melchett, policy director at the Soil Association of the U.K., in a Telegraph article. "It poses far too great a risk to wild salmon."

There is also no guarantee that the fish will remain in their isolated growing pens. Aqua Bounty insists that the GM salmon will never escape into the wild and thus pose no threat. But once approved, GM salmon will likely start popping up in ocean farm fisheries where the likelihood of escape is very high.

Fish in these farming environments already escape into the wild by the millions every year, so it is more than likely that GM fish will do the exact same thing. And if GM fish begin to escape into the wild, there is no telling the extent to which aquaculture will be permanently altered. And there is no undoing it, either.

"[GM fish] can escape and mingle with the native populations, pass on genetic traits, and their presence will just continue to grow and grow. You can't reverse it," explained Joseph Mendelson, legal director for the Center for Food Safety, in a statement.

Like all GM food, GM salmon is dangerous to health

According to a recent Reuters article, the FDA has failed to release any of the safety data about Aqua Bounty's GM fish, so nobody can say for sure what the health effects are. But concerned groups say that, like other GM foods, AquAdvantage fish may cause allergies, digestive problems and other serious illness.

Current GE foods like corn and soy are already known to pose health problems. Studies have shown that they are practically poisonous and cause damage to internal organs and the immune system. In animal studies, GM foods have even led to death.

According to Dr. Michael Antoniou, a British molecular scientist, GMOs lead to the "unexpected production of toxic substances...in genetically-engineered bacteria, yeast, plants and animals with the problem remaining undetected until a major health hazard has arisen."

GM corn, for instance, produces its own pesticide inside the corn kernel that repels pests. But this same pesticide is consumed by millions of people every time they eat the corn, leading to untold health problems that are slowly beginning to surface.

To date, there have been no studies conducted proving that any GM foods are safe for human consumption. And the studies that have been conducted show that tampering with nature at the genetic level only causes problems for people and the environment, not benefits.

GM goats, pigs also on the horizon

Unfortunately, biotechnology's frightening addiction to genetic engineering does not stop at crops and salmon. Last year, the FDA approved a GM goat for use in creating an anti-clotting drug called Atryn. And Canadian researchers are currently seeking FDA approval for GM swine called "Enviropig" that allegedly produces environmentally-friendly manure.

And if Aqua Bounty gets its salmon approved, it already has GM trout and tilapia lined up for approval as well.

Unless the citizenry loudly stand up and forcibly stop the genetic re-engineering of the entire planet, such madness will only continue. And if allowed to continue, genetic engineering could eventually destroy the life of the entire planet.

The FDA is set to review and discuss the issue the weekend of September 19, 2010. For three days, the agency will review data and listen to input from outsiders about the issue.
