Natural health movement achieving key victories over HFCS, MSG, GMOs

(www.Borganic.org) It's hard to see it sometimes, but the natural health community has achieved many important victories over the last few years in exposing the truth about dangerous chemicals and food ingredients. Here are some of the major victories we've collectively achieved:

High-Fructose Corn Syrup exposed

We've been victorious in spreading the word about the dangers of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which I call "liquid sugar crack." The public has learned so much about the dangers of this refined ingredient that food manufacturers are now switching away from HFCS and using more natural refined ingredients (such as evaporated cane juice, which is far better for you than HFCS).

You can even buy Hunt's Ketchup now, which declares right on the front label, "NO High Fructose Corn Syrup!"

Not surprisingly, the Corn Refiners Association has spent millions of dollars trying to obfuscate this issue by claiming HFCS is perfectly good for you. They've attacked virtually every news organization that writes about HFCS, and they run television ads that try to spin the issue in their direction, but they've failed! The public still knows that HFCS is linked to diabetes and obesity, and they don't want any more of this refined liquid sugar in their diets.

BPA - the plastics chemical

The truth has also come out recently about the dangers of Bisphenol-A (BPA), also known as the "plastics chemical." This chemical, which is found in virtually all canned foods (it's in the can liner), plastic bottles and other plastic food containers, has been found to be a "hormone disruptor," meaning it interferes with the normal healthy functioning of the hormones that control your body functions.

The outcry against BPA has even gone mainstream now, with mainstream news organizations covering the issue with greater frequency. Momentum is clearly building in favor of legislation that would outlaw BPA in all plastic food containers, and Canada seems poised to add BPA to its list of toxic substances.

The American Chemistry Council, of course, is outraged by any hint that chemicals might be bad for your health, and they'll continue to fight any new legislation in the USA. But in the end, the ACC will lose, because BPA is dangerous for your health and they can't cover up the science forever.

MSG - the excitotoxin taste enhancer

We've also been victorious in a very big way against MSG (monosodium glutamate), the chemical taste enhancer that's used in sausage, beef jerky, salad dressings, gravy mixes, and all sorts of fast food. (It's found in practically everything served at KFC, for example.)

While we haven't yet succeeded in banning MSG, we have raised awareness to such an extent that even soup companies are now competing with claims of having "No MSG" on their labels. As the public learns even more about MSG, we can expect to see more food companies removing it from their products.

Loophole: Many food companies are switching from MSG to yeast extract, which is a "hidden" form of MSG that's used for the same purpose. If you are avoiding foods made with MSG, be sure to avoid all foods made with yeast extract, too. I'm working on a mini-documentary, by the way, that will expose the truth about this form of hidden MSG in mainstream foods.

Trans Fats - the fat that kills

In addition to the items mentioned above, the natural health community has achieved considerable success in the battle against trans fatty acids -- also known as "trans fats." These are health-harming fats created out of the process of hydrogenation of oils. When you see "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil" on a food label, you know that item contains trans fats.

Trans fats are extremely dangerous for human consumption because they slowly promote deadly degenerative diseases like heart disease and cancer. They have absolutely no place in a healthy food supply. In time, they will probably be banned altogether.

Vitamin D is the new "hero" nutrient!

Through tireless efforts, members and leaders of the natural health movement have succeeded in raising global awareness about the amazing health benefits of vitamin D, the "miracle" nutrient that prevents cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, kidney disease, depression and much more.

Even sunscreens are now being exposed as toxic chemical lotions that block vitamin D production and actually promote vitamin D deficiency!

Plus, the African American and Latino communities are learning more and more about vitamin D deficiency and how their skin pigmentation makes them more vulnerable to such deficiencies if they aren't intentionally working to increase their sun exposure.

More organics in retail stores

In the United States, Target stores now carry a decent selection of USDA organic fresh produce. Costco stores are increasingly carrying organic products, and conventional stores that used to shun health foods now increasingly have "natural foods" sections where people can find organic food items.

As consumers are becoming more aware of the dangers of chemicals in their foods (and the benefits of organic foods), the surge in demand for organics is forcing nearly every food retailer to offer a selection of organic items.

This is progress! Just a few years ago, the idea of finding organic strawberries at Target stores would have seemed ridiculous.

Even Whole Foods, by the way, is improving its organics profile. For example, after tremendous pressure from the Organic Consumers Association (www.OrganicConsumers.org), Whole Foods declared that it would soon stop carrying "cheater" organic body care products that have the word "organics" in their name but aren't really organic at all.

Upcoming victories

I believe the natural health community will achieve yet more significant victories in several important areas of public health. Here's where you can expect to see a lot of progress in the years ahead:

Aspartame

Although this chemical has remained difficult to remove from the food supply, the truth is getting out now about the real dangers of aspartame, and it's only a matter of time before this artificial chemical sweetener is fully exposed (and banned from foods and beverages).

Water fluoridation

Expect to see an end to the criminal act of dripping a toxic, pharmacologically active chemical into the water supply without the consent of those who consume it. The fluoridation of public water supplies is a public health crime and it has absolutely no scientific justification whatsoever.

It is, though, a convenient way to dispose of chemical byproducts from heavy industry. That's where the chemical fluoride comes from that's dumped into the water supply, by the way. Mercury fillings

Mercury is extremely toxic, and even the American Dental Association can't hide that fact forever. Before too much longer, we will see the ADA finally cave in on the issue of mercury and announce to its member dentists that mercury is no longer an acceptable substance to use in dental fillings.

It's not just toxic to dentists and patients (and dentists suffer an unusually high rate of madness due to mercury exposure, by the way); it's also an extreme risk to the environment. Thousands of tons of mercury are released into the environment each year due solely to the use of the toxic metal in modern dentistry.

And a lot of the credit for this victory, by the way, will be due to attorney Charlie Brown from Consumers for Dental Choice (www.ToxicTeeth.org), who you will hear more from as this issue unfolds.

GMOs

Thanks in no small part to the work of Jeffrey Smith (www.SeedsOfDeception.com), there is growing awareness among health-conscious consumers about the extreme dangers of consuming genetically modified foods.

The battle is still raging, and companies like Monsanto are pressuring the FDA to ban honest food labeling that would warn consumers about GMOs in the grocery store, but in the end, the "right-to-know" effort will be victorious. Consumers don't like being hoodwinked, and they don't want to eat GM foods that might unleash pesticides in their own gut.

Vaccines

Under the relentless pressure of stubborn facts, the modern mythology behind seasonal flu vaccines is quickly crumbling away. People are waking up to the fact that such vaccines are not merely worthless; but that they often cause harm!

As people are learning more about vitamin D and how that nutrient activates the human immune system to build its own antibodies against infectious disease, they are increasingly rejecting chemical interventions such as painful vaccine shots (which can cause convulsions, vomiting and permanent neurological damage).

This is a victory for public health, too, because the more people consciously boost their levels of vitamin D and take care of their own immune systems, the less dangerous any infectious disease outbreak will turn out to be.

vaccine deaths | Finland suspends H1N1 vaccines after children suffer narcolepsy from vaccinations

(www.Borganic.org) Shortly after Australia banned flu vaccines in children due to an alarming increase in vomiting, fevers and seizures caused by the vaccines (http://www.naturalnews.com/029586_A...), Finland has now suspended H1N1 vaccines due to increased reports of narcolepsy in children and teens. Narcolepsy is a nervous system disorder characterized by extreme fatigue and daytime sleepiness. It indicates a serious malfunction of the brain and nervous system.

Finland is now reporting that narcolepsy is appearing in children immediately following vaccination with H1N1 vaccines. So far, six children are confirmed of suffering the neurological side effect and nine more are in the process of being confirmed, reports The Epoch Times (http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/con...).

The Finland National Institute for Health (THL) said in a press release that the cause of the narcolepsy may be the vaccine, and they are investigating further.

Sweden's Medical Products Agency, meanwhile, launched a similar investigation on August 19 to try to determine the cause of post-vaccination narcolepsy also found in children there. The vaccines appear to be causing a pattern of neurological disorders affecting children and teens across the planet.

The harm caused by flu vaccines

H1N1 swine flu vaccines and seasonal flu vaccines have been linked to seizures and other neurological disorders, and they have resulted in some children and teens being paralyzed or even killed. At the same time, there is no scientific evidence whatsoever that seasonal flu vaccines are even safe or effective -- they've never been subjected to double-blind, placebo-controlled studies, which are considered the "gold standard" of scientific investigation.

There's no real evidence that seasonal flu vaccines work at all, in fact. Most of the people who get sick every winter, it turns out, are the very people who got vaccinated. That's because vaccines actually weaken the immune system and cause increased risk of future infections. A study published in the journal PLoS revealed that seasonal flu vaccination actually increases the risk of H1N1 swine flu infections ("Does Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Increase the Risk of Illness with the 2009 A/H1N1 Pandemic Virus?" Viboud C, Simonsen L (2010) PLoS Med 7(4): e1000259).

Rather than protecting the public, seasonal flu vaccines and H1N1 swine flu vaccines actually leave them more vulnerable to future infections. That simple fact, combined with the increasing reports of neurological side effects being linked to vaccines, should raise serious questions about the reasoning behind any mass-vaccination program.

When it comes to vaccines, children seem to suffer more than adults. It is the children who are winding up in hospitals, convulsing with seizures or suffering narcolepsy. The saddest part of this is that these children could be very effectively protected from seasonal flu with vitamin D, but the medical industry isn't recommending vitamin D for children.

Vaccines remain the prescription for everyone; even as children around the world are suffering the consequences.

Americans eat too much meat, not enough fruit, says USDA research

(www.Borganic.org) The average U.S. consumer eats significantly too much meat and grain, and not enough fruits or vegetables, according to data form the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Economic Research Service.

The USDA estimates food consumption by tracking how much food is produced and circulating through the U.S. food system ("food availability"), then adjusting that for losses such as spoilage, inedible parts of vegetables, and food that is cooked but not consumed. These values are then divided by the population to get an estimate of per-capita consumption.

According to these figures, the average U.S. resident consumes 30 percent too much grain, primarily in the form of bread. The data given do not specify whether this is mostly whole or refined grains; if refined, it is possible that people are both overconsuming grain in general and underconsuming whole grain in particular.

Meat consumption is 20 percent higher than recommended.

"And the dietary recommendations aren't exactly skimpy on meat," writes Tom Philpott on Grist.org.

In contrast, vegetable consumption is 20 percent too low, and fruit consumption is a shocking 60 percent too low.

Dairy consumption is estimated at 40 percent too low, but the USDA's dairy recommendations are controversial, as there are many other dietary sources of calcium, fat and protein.

The USDA attributes U.S. overconsumption of calories in part to "supersizing of food portions by food processors, eating places, and cookbook authors." Yet as Philpott notes, federal policies bear much of the responsibility for U.S. dietary habits.

"The federal government has facilitated the abundant availability of meat in a variety of ways -- through massive subsidies of livestock feed crops like corn and soy, by looking the other way as meat packers consolidated and drove down the price of meat, and by allowing meat packers to externalize public-health costs and environmental costs, and keep labor costs to a minimum at expense of worker safety," he writes.

"In short, the net effect of federal policy has been to encourage the public's appetite for meat, by creating an environment in which cheap meat thrives."

Deadly fungus spreading across US and Canada

(www.Borganic.org) A research study out of Duke University has found that a dangerous mutated form of an airborne fungus called Cryptococcus gattii is spreading across the Northwest United States and some parts of Western Canada. The fungus, which typically only infects people with autoimmune disorders and compromised immune systems, now seems to be infecting healthy people as well, worrying experts.

Published in PLoS Pathogens, a journal of the Public Library of Science, the report explains that the new fungus is currently infecting people across the Pacific Northwest region and its scope is continuing to expand. Though the fungus was originally discovered in tropical and subtropical regions, it is somehow thriving in temperate regions far different than its native home.

"Between 2003 and 2006, the outbreak expanded into neighboring mainland British Columbia and then into Washington and Oregon from 2005 to 2009. Based on this historical trajectory of expansion, the outbreak may continue to expand into the neighboring region of Northern California, and possibly further," explained Edmond Byrnes, author of the study.

This particular strain is especially worrisome to researchers because it has a mortality rate of roughly 25 percent. And what originated on Vancouver Island has now become a regional threat, not to mention the fact that the disease is intensifying in severity. So experts are cautioning people to beware of it in order to catch symptoms early.

Symptoms include a long-lasting cough, sharp chest pain, shortness of breath, headache, weight loss, fever and night sweats. Symptoms may not appear until weeks after exposure, and can affect even domestic animals and livestock.

According to a National Geographic report, six reasonably healthy people in Oregon have already died from the fungus, and more deaths are expected as the disease continues to spread.

The disease is contracted when fungal spores are inhaled. According to the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control, there's no approved treatment for the new deadly strain. Since it is a fungal infection, though, it cannot be transmitted from person to person.

Naturally-minded individuals may wish to research natural anti-fungal foods and herbs if they believe they might be infected, because there are substances that can help prevent or treat fungal infections. Maintaining a strong immune system through a superior diet that includes plenty of rest and proper exercise will also help to protect you from disease in general.

diabetes treatment | Cinnamon extract reduces risk of diabetes and heart disease

(www.Borganic.org) A recent study headed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has identified a link between cinnamon intake and reduced risk of diabetes and heart disease. According to the research, water-soluble cinnamon extract, which is high in antioxidants, helps to decrease glucose levels in the blood as well as reduce oxidative stress in the body.

Richard Anderson, a chemist with the USDA and study lead, and his colleagues evaluated 22 participants who were obese and considered to be "pre-diabetic" based on their cells' interaction with insulin. The team divided the participants into two groups, one of which received a placebo, and another that received 250 milligrams (mg) of dried, water-soluble cinnamon extract twice a day for 12 weeks. Follow-up tests revealed up to a 23 percent increase in antioxidant levels among those taking the cinnamon.

Pre-diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal, and the cells that would normally accept insulin from the pancreas in order to lower these levels begin to reject it. If not addressed quickly, pre-diabetes can quickly develop into full diabetes.

Based on the study, cinnamon is a viable, natural treatment for maintaining healthy blood glucose levels and preventing the onset of diabetes. Other studies have also shown that cinnamon plays a vital role in maintaining healthy circulation and energy levels in the body.

"Recent studies show that cinnamon stimulates circulation and boosts the ability of insulin to metabolize glucose and carry it into cells for energy production," explain Stephen Sinatra, M.D., and James C. Roberts, M.D., in their book Reverse Heart Disease Now: Stop Deadly Cardiovascular Plaque Before It's Too Late.

Australia bans flu vaccines in children after vomiting, fevers, seizures

(www.Borganic.org) Although it's still summer in North America, it is of course winter in Australia, and the flu season is well under way there. As usual, Australian health authorities have been urging parents there to vaccinate their children against the flu, propagating the mythology that flu vaccines are both safe and effective. But this time around, many Australian parents found out the hard way that they were being lied to.

It didn't take long to realize the truth after their children start going into convulsions following the flu vaccine injections. Other children began vomiting or exhibiting dangerously high levels of fever. One child has gone into a coma and may never recover.

"Perth mother of two Bea Flint said her 11-month-old boy Avery had a seizure after receiving the first dose of the two-dose flu vaccination on Saturday. Mrs Flint said that after the 9am vaccination she noticed Avery had a minor temperature about 2pm. At 7.45pm, Avery started whimpering and moaning. When Mrs Flint got to his cot the baby had vomited and was lying on his side having a seizure. 'He couldn't cry - his head was hanging down in the car seat and he couldn't move. I was petrified - it was one of the worst experiences of my life."

The story goes on to say, "The doctor who treated Avery told Mrs Flint her baby was the fifth child with similar symptoms admitted to the hospital that day."

In other words, this was no rare event. Vaccinated children suffering severe convulsions were piling up in hospital emergency rooms across the country.

The real kicker, though, is that children started having convulsions two weeks ago but Australian health authorities ignored them, insisting that the vaccine was safe and causing it to be injected in yet more babies. Two weeks later, with dozens more children experiencing convulsions (and who knows how many thousands actually being harmed in less obvious ways), Commonwealth chief health officer Professor Jim Bishop finally announced the vaccination ban.

Remember: Health authorities in Australia, UK, the United States and everywhere else have relentlessly insisted that flu vaccines are perfectly safe and can't possibly harm anyone. In the U.S., the FDA has given its approval to the very same flu vaccine that's harming children in Australia, and the CDC has insisted that all children in the USA -- regardless of age -- should now be injected with this very same flu vaccine.

So now we've got a vaccine that Australia has banned but the USA somehow says is safe enough to inject into a six-month-old infant. How many convulsing babies will it take in the U.S. before American parents realize the truth about flu vaccines?

Chemically induced convulsions

As you're reading this, you may find yourself wonder, "Well, what could cause such convulsions in children?"

The answer is more terrifying than you might think, because it's not "weakened flu viruses" that vaccine manufacturer claim they put into the vaccines. A weakened flu virus doesn't send children into convulsions. Only a chemical can do that.

The chemical in question is one that's routinely added to most vaccines as a way to aggravate the immune system to respond to the presence of the weakened virus. It's called an "adjuvant" and consists of a highly inflammatory chemical that we now know may damage brain tissues and the nervous system. It is this adjuvant that most likely caused the convulsions in children.

Even in children who don't experience convulsions, there is speculation that this adjuvant may lead to future Alzheimer's disease or other neurological disorders. Vaccine manufacturers always attempt to downplay their use of adjuvant chemicals, and few media outlets focus on this important point, but it is the adjuvant that is most likely responsible for sending these Australian children into hospitals with convulsions.

Health authorities defend dangerous vaccine

One thing I've noticed about vaccine pushers is that they behave like irrational zealots. No matter how much evidence surfaces about the dangers of vaccines, they continue to mindlessly push them while ignoring the evidence.

A pediatric professor in Australia, Dr Peter Richmond, admitted that researchers were trying to figure out if the entire vaccine was dangerous, or if there was just a bad batch. But even before getting the answer to this question, he goes on to say that everybody over the age of five should go ahead and get injected with this same vaccine! In other words, he's so convinced the vaccine is safe -- even after dozens of children were obviously harmed by it -- that he's still pushing the same dangerous vaccine onto everybody else!

This is precisely the kind of attitude reflected across the vaccine industry. Reports of children being harmed, or paralyzed, or hospitalized by vaccines are always written off as "coincidence." The mounting evidence is simply thrown out the window because it conflicts with the pro-vaccine agenda.

Can you imagine the outrage if an herbal product sent fifty kids to the hospital suffering from convulsions? Health authorities across the world would be quick to condemn the product, and they'd confiscate it right off the shelves while shutting down the operations of its manufacturer. But somehow when a vaccine does the same thing, these same health authorities urge people to keep on injecting their children with it!

It makes no sense. But then again, the vaccine industry was never based on rational thinking in the first place. If health authorities were truly rational, they'd be handing out vitamin D supplements to children instead of injecting them with vaccines, because vitamin D has been scientifically proven to provide better protection against the flu than vaccines. Of course, to ask health authorities to make rational decisions is sort of like asking politicians to start telling the truth. In the complicated world of profits and politics, rational, honest thinking just doesn't get any traction. It's far more profitable to keep lying to the world and raking in billions of dollars each year off dangerous vaccines, even as they continue to harm innocent children.

I often wonder... How many dead children will it take before parents wake up and realize that flu vaccines are dangerous? The answer may surprise you: Even a million dead children won't change the minds of most parents because they just do whatever they're told by health authorities, even if it makes no rational sense.

Most parents are so brainwashed by the medical system that they would gladly line up to have their babies injected with chemotherapy if they were told it was somehow necessary.

At some point, the parents whose babies are being harmed or potentially even killed by these vaccines can only blame themselves. They were the ones who brought their babies to be injected with a chemical adjuvant and viral fragments, and they should know better than to trust the government when it comes to health advice. The government, after all, still says that pharmaceutical chemicals are good for you while vitamins, herbs and natural remedies are dangerous. And it's the government that approved the very vaccines that are right now sending these children to the hospital.

Any parent that trusts the government with the health of their child is setting themselves up for catastrophe. And that catastrophe could very well cost them the life of their child.

Bottled tea beverages contain little or no antioxidants

(www.Borganic.org) Countless studies over the years about the health benefits of tea -- particularly green tea -- have driven many health-conscious consumers to stock up on all the latest tea beverages that claim to improve health. But a recent study has shown that most commercial bottled tea drinks contain virtually no antioxidants and a whole lot of sugar or artificial sweeteners.

"Consumers understand very well the concept of the health benefits from drinking tea or consuming other tea products," explained Shiming Li, Ph.D., an analytical and natural product chemist, concerning the study. "However, there is a huge gap between the perception that tea consumption is healthy and the actual amount of the healthful nutrients -- polyphenols -- found in bottled tea beverages. Our analysis of tea beverages found that the polyphenol content is extremely low."

Polyphenols are the unique antioxidants commonly found in freshly-brewed tea that exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and anti-diabetic effects on the body. But after analyzing six different brands of bottled tea beverages, Li and his colleagues discovered that three contained "virtually no" polyphenols, and the others had so little that they provided little benefit.

To put this into perspective, an average cup of home-brewed green or black tea contains anywhere from 50 to 150 milligrams of polyphenols. The bottled teas examined, on the other hand, contained as little as three milligrams of polyphenols per bottle.

"Someone would have to drink bottle after bottle of these teas in some cases to receive health benefits," emphasized Li.

Part of the reason why commercial bottled teas contain so little polyphenols is that these antioxidants are what give tea its bitter flavor. So in order to appeal to the masses, commercial producers often dilute, process and sweeten the tea to make it more appealing to consumers.

Police State | California Raw Food Buyers Club Illegally Raided by Government

(www.Borganic.org) Rawsome Foods, part of The Right to Choose Healthy Foods buyers` club association in Venice, California, was raided by several agencies. Federal officers, representatives of the State of California, Los Angeles County Health officials and Los Angeles police officers arrived with guns drawn. Although the volunteer workers at the food club had committed no crime, the government agents forced them to remain on the property for the entire 5 hours while they seized 17 huge coolers of high quality food; their warrant, however, explicitly stated that they could only take sample vials of food. The agents threatened and coerced club members who wanted to film the trespass and confiscation of property. The authorities stole thousands of dollars of the club members` raw milk and honey.

The club was found to be in violation of a misdemeanor (minor accounts of law), Illegal Food Facility (CAL Code 114381) and the county law of business without a public health license (Title 8 LA County Code 8.04.932), but the warrant was issued on claims of felony violations. Even though Rawesome is operating illegally, these alleged infractions of the law come with extremely minor penalties. In other words, the violations would be something on the level of forgetting to pay your car registration. So why didn`t the government simply write a letter or pay a non-threatening visit asking the food club to produce a license?

The Right to Choose Healthy Food (RTCHF) is a not-for-profit trust association formed to protect individuals` rights to obtain and consume healthy food. The club members are well-educated and intelligent, who daily choose to reject standard toxic governmental food restrictions, preparations and packaging for natural God-given healthy food. RTCHF contracts with farmers to lease their animals and/or fields and owns the produce of those animals and fields. Therefore, all members of all clubs own the produce, not the farmer. The farmer does not sell people anything but gets paid for his services to cultivate, grow, harvest, and board and care for animals, as well as collect, package and ship the produce owned by club members.

In the USA and Canada, we have the right to ownership. As it states in statutes of law, government agencies, including the USDA, have jurisdiction over commerce. Commerce is the open exchange of goods to the public. Since RTCHF and its clubs are private closed-to-the-public associations, the government has no jurisdiction. This government raid is equivalent to a government agent entering your private home and telling you what foods you can have in your home.

In order to obtain the warrant for the food club raid, government agents had to lie about the mentioned laws and claim that operating a business without a license is a felony, even when it is a misdemeanor.

As more and more people realize the health benefits of raw milk, they are turning away from factory farmed milk. We don`t want animals that are treated in inhumane ways, kept alive on antibiotics, and forced to eat genetically modified soy and corn to be providing our milk, cheese, and butter. Yet here the government is acting to protect big dairy interests and stamp out the growing small farm suppliers.

Private buying clubs like RTCHF acquire food directly from farmers, insuring that small farms can make a living producing humanely cared for dairy foods, and insuring consumers get the healthy food we deserve. In these actions, the Federal, State and even local authorities have violated our sovereignty, our boundaries, and our personal freedom.

BPA | Gender-bender chemicals causing early puberty in girls

(www.Borganic.org) "Endocrine disrupting" chemicals that mimic or interfere with the body's natural sex hormones are partially responsible for early puberty in girls, according to a study conducted by researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

"Research has shown that early pubertal development in girls can have adverse social and medical effects, including cancer and diabetes later in life," researcher Mary Wolff said. "Our research shows a connection between chemicals that girls are exposed to on a daily basis and either delayed or early development."

The researchers monitored 1,151 U.S. girls between the ages of six and eight for up to two years, regularly measuring the levels of phthalates, phenols and phytoestrogens in their urine. They found that some of the chemicals appeared to delay puberty, while others appeared to hasten it. The strongest effect was seen from chemicals classified as phthalates or phytoestrogens.

Phthalates are a class of chemicals widely used to make cosmetics, adhesives, detergents, packaging, paints and inks, food and pharmaceutical products, and soft plastics for everything from medical equipment to toys and sex toys. Although the European Union has banned their use in cosmetics due to health concerns, they are still legal in the United States.

Phenols are industrial chemicals, and include the infamous plastics hardener Bishphenol-A (BPA). BPA is also used to make linings for food cans.

Phytoestrogens are naturally occurring plant compounds that mimic the action of the hormone estrogen in the body.

"We believe that there are certain periods of vulnerability in the development of the mammary gland, and exposure to these chemicals may influence breast cancer risk in adulthood," Wolff said.

The onset of puberty in girls in Western countries has dropped by a year in the past generation. Western girls now begin menstruating at the average age of 10 years and three months. Most of this drop has been attributed to increased caloric intake and lower activity levels, but scientists are increasingly suggesting that pollution may also be playing a role.

Egg recall | FDA exploits salmonella eggs recall

(www.Borganic.org) It's always amusing to see how quickly consumers can be worked up into a false fear frenzy by health authorities. We saw it last year with the overhyped H1N1 swine flu scare which was fanned into a flaming fear fest by WHO advisors on the take from vaccine manufacturers. Now we're getting a new round of fear-mongering from many of the same sources who are warning us about salmonella contaminated eggs.

According to mainstream news sources, a massive 380-million-egg recall has been announced, and these eggs are all so incredibly dangerous that you have to immediately remove them from your refrigerator and take them back to the store where you bought them so that they can be properly destroyed. This is all backed up by phrases like, "It's not worth the risk," and claims that if people eat the eggs, they are taking "too much of a chance."

Pretty scary, huh?

What they're not telling you is that more than 80 percent of the chicken meat bought at grocery stores is consistently contaminated with the exact same salmonella (http://www.naturalnews.com/021258.html). A more recent study conducted by Consumers Union found that two-thirds of grocery store chickens are contaminated every day! (http://www.naturalnews.com/028661_c...)

But you don't hear warnings to "take your chicken back to the store!" or "it's unsafe to eat your chicken!" Ever wonder why?

Or to phrase the question another way, why is salmonella so dangerous on your eggs, but completely safe on your chicken?

The answer is it's not. It's the exact same risk in both cases: Cook either one and you destroy salmonella entirely. Infected eggs are no more dangerous than infected chicken, and infected chicken is apparently so safe that it's sold every single day at your neighborhood grocery store (without any warnings or alarms, I might add). Nobody at the FDA has even mentioned it is recent memory. Salmonella contaminated chicken is apparently a non-issue.

The real reason for the salmonella scare

Now, here's the real reason why the issue of chicken contaminated with salmonella is almost never publicized: Because to expose the salmonella contamination of chicken would be to expose the sick, filthy and inhumane practices of the factory-farmed conventional chicken industry.

And the (non-organic) chicken industry doesn't want anyone to start looking into its practices because its practices are just too disgusting for most people to stomach. You might lose your (chicken McNugget) lunch, and then you'd probably stop buying chicken. They can't have that.

So chicken meat gets a free pass: It's okay with the FDA, the CDC and the USDA that Americans are buying salmonella contamination every single day as long as it's in the form of a piece of chicken flesh.

Why, then, are contaminated eggs being flagged as so dangerous? To answer that, you have to go back to a story I wrote in 2008 called, "FDA Unleashes Mass Irradiation of Spinach, Lettuce and Other Vegetables" (http://www.naturalnews.com/023945.html)

There, following the FDA's demands that spinach and lettuce be irradiated, I explained the FDA's real agenda: "Don't think the FDA will stop with spinach and lettuce, either. They're already talking about irradiating tomatoes, peppers and onions. Before long, radiation could become mandatory for ALL fresh produce..."

It's already happened with almonds, which must now be fumigated or pasteurized in the United States -- a punitive rule that has severely damaged the U.S. almond industry. That took place after an outbreak of contamination with almonds. Similarly, this recent egg contamination fiasco is giving the FDA precisely the excuse it needs to demand routine pasteurization or irradiation of all eggs. Meanwhile, salmonella-contaminated chicken will be utterly ignored by the FDA even as it calls for the mass-pasteurization of "dangerous" eggs.

The FDA, you see, will seize upon each contamination event as a leverage point from which to ratchet up its food sterilization agenda, and the agency won't stop until every scrap of fresh food sold at grocery stores is either pasteurized, fumigated or irradiated.

Only then will the FDA's true agenda of food control be fully realized. (Insert evil genius laughter here.) And this plan of course involves outlawing all raw milk, raw almonds, raw spinach, raw eggs and anything else that might be living. Hence the recent ramping up of criminal arrests and prosecutions against raw milk producers and living food coops.

The only safe food is dead food according to the FDA. And they're going to make sure your food is as dead as possible by exploiting these hyped-up food emergencies as leverage points from which to assert their "dead foods agenda."

The punch line to all this should be obvious by now: Dead foods lead to dead people. When a population is denied access to health-enhancing living foods (raw foods), its health begins to deteriorate. This of course create a financial windfall for the pharmaceutical industry that thrives on suffering and disease. (More vaccines, anyone?)

In other words, keeping the food sterilized means keeping the people diseased. And keeping the people diseased means keeping the sick-care industry rolling in easy cash. There's nothing like a little sickness to remind people to keep taking their pills, after all...

Don't think that this egg recall has anything to do with protecting the health of consumers. Cigarettes kill hundreds of thousands of people a year and they're perfectly legal to sell. Even toxic chemical food ingredients like MSG, aspartame and sodium nitrite remain perfectly legal, too. If the FDA cared about protecting people from dangerous foods, it would have banned disease-causing ingredients long ago. But instead, the agency going after your raw milk, raw eggs, raw spinach and raw almonds.

At a time when telecommunications media are converging and companies are becoming vertically integrated, the communication giants and those who control them see bundled services as their way to impose near monopoly control over the information that flows into our homes via television, computer, phone. The magnitude of this change will end the internet as we know it.

According to information readily accessible on the internet, the effort is underway to charge per site fees on most internet sites. The plan will convert the internet into a cable-like system in which customers will sign up and pay for access to specific web sites and then pay al a carte to visit any sites beyond the package they have bought. It's modeled on the manner in which cable TV subscribers buy prepackaged service, leaving them open to purchase extra services on a per view basis. Many sites not popular enough to be bundled would disappear. Costs for the average internet user would soar.

FCC regulations have already allowed the phone and cable giants to gain greater control over broadband and eliminate longstanding regularoty safeguards. Companies providing internet access are not required to operate in a nondiscriminatory manner. It has been governmental regulation of phone lines that has helped make the internet the open, accessible and vibrant medium it is today. But now the effort is underway to privatize these networks and the government is slowly allowing this to happen.

Aside from filling corporate coffers, this plan to restrict internet availability will serve the power elite quite well if they are able to gain control of the country's digital destiny. The internet has been the one roadblock to the implementation of the elite's agenda set for the beginning of the 21st century, the next phase of the move toward One World Government, also known as The New World Order. Pockets of resistance have halted steps essential to the progress of this agenda, such as the current efforts underway by the people of Texas to stop construction of the Trans Texas Corridor. Internet restriction would go a long way in squelching this resistance.

Are the corporations right in their assessment of us? Will we be steamrolled once again or will we be willing to take a stand here at the threatened loss of our most powerful tool? Maybe we will realize that if we lose the internet, we will have lost everything.

Potash | Fertilizer is destroying the planet

(www.Borganic.org) Reckless overuse of synthetic fertilizers is creating an ecological catastrophe, warns a recent feature in Grist magazine.

In traditional farming, the nitrogen available in the soil imposes a strict limit on how much food can be grown. Organic methods of nitrogen supplementation include planting certain leguminous ("nitrogen fixing") crops or manually applying nitrogen in the form of manure or compost.

Yet with the so-called "Green Revolution" after World War II, agronomists widely adopted the Haber-Bosch process for transforming chemically neutral atmospheric nitrogen into the much more volatile ammonia. Ammonia soon became the base for a wide array of fertilizers, allowing farmers to produce much greater yields than had been traditionally possible. This food boom directly fueled the global population explosion of the last 70 years.

Unfortunately, due to its intrinsically volatile nature, so-called reactive nitrogen does not stay where farmers put it -- it reacts easily with the elements around it to spread into the air, water and soil. Researchers estimate that as much as 70 percent of applied nitrogen ends up outside of the crops being grown. To make matters worse, farmers typically apply far more fertilizer than they need to, as a sort of insurance to produce the largest yields possible.

Excess nitrogen can actually destroy valuable soil organisms, degrading the soil's agricultural quantity. It is responsible for the proliferation of aquatic "dead zones," where agricultural runoff has produced algal blooms that devour oxygen and choke out fish, as well as bacterial blooms that can produce human disease. Other ecological consequences of nitrogen pollution include lake acidification and general habitat degradation.

The effects do not stop there: ammonia production is such an energetically intensive process that fertilizer manufacture actually accounts for a full 1 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions. Yet all climate bills currently making their way through the U.S. Congress explicitly exempt agricultural emissions from regulation.

Mere climate regulation alone is not the answer, however, notes author Stephanie Ogburn. Only a widescale revisioning of the agricultural system and its emphasis on higher yields can shift the world off the path of nitrogen catastrophe.

Dunham met and married Lolo Soetoro, Obama’s stepfather, at the East-West Center in 1965. Soetoro was recalled to Indonesia in 1965 to serve as a senior army officer and assist General Suharto and the CIA in the bloody overthrow of President Sukarno.

Barack Obama, Sr., who met Dunham in 1959 in a Russian language class at the University of Hawaii, had been part of what was described as an airlift of 280 East African students to the United States to attend various colleges — merely “aided” by a grant from the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation, according to a September 12, 1960, Reuters report from London. The airlift was a CIA operation to train and indoctrinate future agents of influence in Africa, which was becoming a battleground between the United States and the Soviet Union and China for influence among newly-independent and soon-to-be independent countries on the continent.

The airlift was condemned by the deputy leader of the opposition Kenyan African Democratic Union (KADU) as favoring certain tribes — the majority Kikuyus and minority Luos — over other tribes to favor the Kenyan African National Union (KANU), whose leader was Tom Mboya, the Kenyan nationalist and labor leader who selected Obama, Sr. for a scholarship at the University of Hawaii. Obama, Sr., who was already married with an infant son and pregnant wife in Kenya, married Dunham on Maui on February 2, 1961 and was also the university’s first African student. Dunham was three month’s pregnant with Barack Obama, Jr. at the time of her marriage to Obama, Sr.

(www.Borganic.org) A former AT&T technician who retired in 2004 has told Congress that the telecommunications company cooperated with the National Security Agency (NSA) by building special routing rooms that would allow the agency to monitor all U.S. internet traffic.

Mark Klein, who worked for AT&T for 22 years with no special security clearance, told Congress that in 2003, he was transferred to an office that was responsible for building a "secret room" connected to the company's Internet room in San Francisco. Another technician showed him wiring diagrams for the room.

"That was my 'aha' moment," Klein said. "They're sending the entire Internet to the secret room." Klein realized that the room was set up to split all Internet traffic passing through the building in two, sending one signal along uninterrupted and the other signal into the NSA's secret room.

"This splitter was sweeping up everything, vacuum-cleaner-style," he said. "The NSA is getting everything. These are major pipes that carry not just AT&T's customers but everybody's."

Similar secret rooms were set up in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose, Calif. Klein said that AT&T also funneled phone-call data to the NSA.

The surveillance was carried out as part of the Bush administration's warrantless wiretap program, which has come under increasing fire as the depth of the surveillance has been uncovered.

Klein decided to come forward when he heard that the government was claiming that surveillance was only carried out on terrorism-related communications that involved someone outside the United States.

"I flipped out," he said. "They're copying the whole Internet. There's no selection going on here. Maybe they select out later, but at the point of handoff to the government, they get everything."

The technician urged Congress to reject a bill to grant immunity to telecommunications companies that participated in the wiretap program. Immunity would lead to the dismissal of 38 pending lawsuits.

"If they've done something massively illegal and unconstitutional -- well, they should suffer the consequences," Klein said.

That announcement is saturated with so many medical myths, it's difficult to know where to begin. For starters, the idea that the BRCA1 gene causes cancer is pure hogwash. There's no such thing as a gene that causes cancer by itself. The truth is that environmental factors such as exposure to cancer-causing chemicals in foods, medicines, personal care products, pesticides or other industrial chemicals causes the expression of the cancer gene. Without all that toxic chemical exposure, the gene never gets expressed in the first place.

And it gets even better: You can eat raw broccoli sprouts or other cruciferous vegetables and suppress the BRCA1 gene so that you never grow cancer tumors at all. Thus, the patient has complete control over the expression of their genes based on their diet and environment, and there are literally hundreds of different foods that have an anti-cancer effect: Cruciferous vegetables, onions, garlic, red wine, green tea, raw cacao, omega-3 oils, and of course a whole universe of anti-cancer herbs and superfoods.

This doesn't even mention the effects of vitamin D and exercise on the BRCA1 gene, both of which also suppress cancer.

But modern medicine -- which is largely based on marketing-motivated quackery -- wants women to believe they have no control over breast cancer and that it all comes down to your genes, not your choices. That's the little trap they set for women, stripping them of their power and condemning them to a lifetime of medical "treatment" that just happens to earn outrageous profits for the drug companies.

Welcome to the new era of eugenics

So now we have a new era being unleashed where babies born with the BRCA1 gene are going to be considered "defective" while babies born without the gene will be considered "superior."

This is leading us into a dangerous new mindset where babies will be condemned as second-class citizens from the moment they're born simply because they carry a gene that the corrupt medical system mistakenly believes is a causative factor for some disease.

The relevant movie to watch here is GATTACA (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119177/), a film that depicts a future society where your genes determine every opportunity you have in life: Your job, you income, your social standing and much more.

GATTACA is a smart movie that sends a highly relevant warning message: If we begin to profile babies for their genes, then we are heading down a slippery slope of defunct medical ethics that could ultimately lead to a new division between the "genetic upper class" and the "genetic lower class."

The next class war could very well be based on genetics, and parents will fret over the genetic makeup of their children, choosing to abort babies that don't have the "right" genes, even if those babies are perfectly healthy. And then we'll have medical companies offering to manipulate the genes of the fertilized egg, promising to give parents a baby with blond hair, or a high IQ, or a thin physique...

It's just what we need, huh? A whole society of genetically-selected supermodels running around society, thinking they're superior because they've been genetically designed by scientists who think they're God.

These gene-pushing doctors mistakenly think they can determine the future of a human being by manipulating the genes of the fetus. It's no surprise, after all: Most conventionally-trained physicians believe in outright determinism, thinking that there is no such thing as a soul, or free will, or a spiritual reality of any kind. You're born with genes, you "play out" your predetermined fate recorded in those genes, and then you die and that's the end of everything. It's a deeply pessimistic, deterministic point of view, and yet it's the view that's held by the vast majority of western doctors.

The real truth is that while genes certainly have potential influence over a person's health, it is the environment (foods, health habits, exercise, exposure to chemicals, etc.) that is the far more important factor in determining what happens to an individual's health. I can take a room full of a thousand BRCA1 gene carriers and show every one of them how to live a life 100% free of breast cancer through simple, safe and low-cost methods that are available to everyone.

Modern medicine refuses to do that. Because despite all the grand technology, the manipulation of human life and the arrogant playing God that takes place daily in the minds of western doctors, there's one thing they still haven't figured out how to do: Tell the truth to a patient about how they can prevent cancer, regardless of their genes.

Modern medicine is a huge technical success and a complete humanistic failure. It offers the most impressive technology in the world and puts it into the hands of the most ethically-deficient professionals who are so pessimistic about the nature of reality that they don't even believe in the existence of their own souls.

And do you really want scientists who don't even believe in the existence of the human soul to be playing God with your baby's genes?

Disturbing.

It should also be noted, by the way, that this whole process of "gene screening babies" involves testing the embryo at the eight-cell stage (when conception has already taken place and the baby is beginning to grow), and then throwing away any embryos that don't fit the desire genetic profile.

In effect, the gene screening of babies involves the systematic destruction of viable human embryos that could grow into full-fledged babies. This opens up a whole new debate on the issue of abortion, of course, and I'd like to hear your comments on all this. Simply post your thoughts in the comment section below.

The key issues are: At what point is the genetic screening of a baby going too far? Most people might agree, for example, that screening for major birth defects is acceptable, but is it acceptable to screen for things like blue eyes and then toss out the embryos that don't carry that gene?

What will happen in the future of society if the gene screening of embryos becomes socially acceptable and is embraced by parents?

What are the risks posed by a race of beings that engages in routine genetic selection? (For example, might be lose biodiversity? Might the BRCA1 gene have another positive purpose that doctors haven't identified yet?)

Should humans be genetically engineered to insert new traits? Larger brains? Stronger muscles? Bigger boobs? (Parents could actually order up a boob job on their daughter before she's born!)

Think carefully about this one. It's a hugely complex sociomedicalethical issue.

Egg recall | World food supply

(www.Borganic.org) Extreme weather conditions across the globe are destroying crops, cattle and land, as nations struggle through things like droughts, floods and other natural phenomena. And while some say that these occurrences are natural, cyclic effects from variations in solar activity, others point to climate change as the culprit.

Russian wheat crop failures, Kansas cattle deaths and flooding in Pakistan are among the many struggles currently being faced by nations around the world, but why are these extreme weather conditions occurring in the first place? This is a question many are asking as they work to cope with the destruction and seek a solution.

Weather extremes have put a heavy strain on food production, which could lead to skyrocketing food prices like the ones seen back in 2007 and 2008 when food was in short supply due to similar events. And according to a recent Reuters article, many are calling for further talks and agreements to be made about climate change legislation as a solution to the problem.

According to Neville Nicholls, a climate scientist at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from vehicles and human industrial activity is leading to "more and more hot extremes and worse unprecedented extremes." He and others believe global talks must continue to address practical ways to deal with CO2 emissions, and that the time is now to push for climate legislation.

Still others, though, point to the sun's normal cyclic rise and fall in activity as the instigator of alleged global warming, and say that climate legislation will only serve to further erode personal freedom and national sovereignty.

FDA declared Cloned meat safe for the food supply

(www.Borganic.org) We already know that cloned beef has entered the food supply both in the United States (http://www.naturalnews.com/023718_f...) and the UK (http://www.naturalnews.com/029411_c...). Now, thanks to revelations from JR Simplot, a U.S. company specializing in the cloning of cows for beef production, we're learning that dead cows are cloned to produce the next generation of beef cattle.

Here's how it works: A large number of cows are slaughtered and then chopped into steaks that are tested for their flavor, texture and other qualities important to steak eaters. The source animal of each steak is recorded, and cells from that source carcass are preserved for possible cloning in case the steak turns out to taste good. Once all the steaks are gauged for their desirability, the dead cow carcasses from which the flesh was cut to produce the steaks are harvested for their DNA.

This DNA is then used to clone new cows who are fed, raised and slaughtered to see how their flesh steaks taste. This cycle is repeated through multiple generations in order to "evolve" cow clones with great-tasting flesh.

"The animals are hanging on a rail ready to go to the meat counter," JR Simplot employee Brady Hicks (yes, that's his real name) told BBC News (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-e...). "We identify carcasses that have certain carcass characteristics that we want, but it's too late to reproduce the genetics of the animal. But through cloning we can resurrect that animal."

This "bovine resurrection," it turns out, is just the latest mad science idea from an industry that recognizes no value in the life of a cow but tremendous value from its dead carcass.

Frankenfood beef

The upshot of all this is that the beef people are buying and eating in the US and UK right now could be from cow clones raised from the dead carcasses of other cows whose DNA were harvested for cloning. Yep: Only in the food industry do you see this sort of Frankenstein science -- trying to create life from dead body parts through a process they call "resurrection"... and then serving up Frankenfoods to consumers.

Far from the world of live foods, beef products are dead food made from dead cows that were given life by taking dead cells from the carcasses or other dead cows who were only kept alive in order to harvest their dead DNA. If it sounds a little sick and demented, that's because it undoubtedly is. This process violates so many principles of ethics and spirituality that it's hard to even know where to begin.

Of course, by the time a thousand cow carcasses are all ground up, mixed together, extruded, irradiated and packaged, no one can tell where the beef actually come from... or even if it was cloned in the first place. Slap a greasy patty of cloned beef between two hamburger buns at a fast food joint and no one is the wiser.

That's sort of the point, actually: The beef industry knows that people don't really have much of a clue where their beef comes from -- and they don't want to know! So even if beef comes from cloned animals raised from the harvested DNA of dead cow carcasses, the average consumer remains clueless.

The high price of low cost

The goal of the beef industry is to create the best-tasting beef in the world at the lowest cost possible. Period.

There is no consideration in the industry for the experience of the cow, nor the ethics of playing God with bovine DNA, nor compassion for the suffering of these animals when they are slaughtered, nor the impact of factory farming on the environment. It's all about corporate profits at the expense of the cows who are born, bred, cloned and slaughtered merely to produce another quarter-pounder that ratchets up another dime in profits for the beef factories.

Think about that the next time you dare to buy anything made from cow parts. You may be buying Franken-cow beef originating from the "resurrected" DNA of a bovine carcass.

By the way, very few American consumers know the truth about this. They have no idea cows are being cloned from dead carcasses to create cloned beef that the FDA has already declared to be "safe" for the food supply. Whole Foods, by the way, has banned cloned meat products in its stores. So if you do eat beef, you can safely shop for it at Whole Foods without encountering cloned beef. Of course, you'd probably be better off with a predominantly plant-based diet, but that's another article altogether.

Cloned beef will NOT be labeled as "cloned" in the USA. So there's no way to know whether conventional beef you're buying at the grocery stores (or eating at a restaurant) actually contains cloned beef. The industry will lobby hard to avoid honest labeling in much the same way that the GMO industry doesn't want foods labeled as "genetically modified."

There's one thing we all know for sure: The beef industry prefers to keep consumers in the dark about where all that beef really comes from.

Antibiotics causes superbug

(www.Borganic.org) The journal Lancet Infectious Diseases recently published a sobering piece about how antibiotics are becoming wholly ineffective as treatments for infection. According to the report, even the most powerful antibiotics available are largely inadequate at tackling the emerging forms of new and powerful "super" bacteria.

Antibiotic overuse has become a pandemic problem. They are used in animal feed to make animals grow more quickly and they are handed out like candy by many doctors to people with almost any ailment. And they are simply not working anymore to fight infection.

Published by Professor Tim Walsh and his colleagues, the paper explains how a new gene called NDM 1 is changing the way infectious bacteria survive. The NDM 1 gene passes among bacteria like E. Coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae and makes them resistant to antibiotics. Even carbapenems, the most powerful antibiotics available, are no match for these new bacteria.

"This is potentially the end. There are no antibiotics in the pipeline that have activity against NDM 1-producing enterobacteriaceae. We have a bleak window of maybe ten years where we are going to have to use the antibiotics we have very wisely, but also grapple with the reality that we have nothing to treat these infections with," explained Walsh in a recent Guardian piece.

According to Dr. Livermore, director of the antibiotic resistance monitoring and reference laboratory at the U.K. Health Protection Agency, the entirety of modern medicine could collapse as a result of antibiotics becoming useless.

"A lot of modern medicine would become impossible if we lost our ability to treat infections," he emphasized.

Fluoride effects | dental fluorosis, thyroid, kidney and iver

(www.Borganic.org) Much of the fluoride added to municipal water supplies across the United States is imported from China, and is contaminated with heavy metals, according to a warning by Bernard Miltenberger, president of the Pure Water Committee of Western Maryland.

In a letter published in the Cumberland Times-News, Miltenberger notes that he first became aware of the issue in an engineering report for the city of Boulder, Colo. The report noted that the fluoridation chemicals used for the city's water had been evaluated, and were found to contain lead levels of 40 milligrams per bag and arsenic levels of 50 milligrams per bag. The bags were being imported from China under no regulatory monitoring of acid or salt content.

Miltenberger then visited the Frostburg Water Filtration Plant in Maryland and noticed that the fluoride bags were not labeled with any importation information. He contacted the plant's chemical supplier, Univar USA, and was then referred to Sovay fluorides. Sovay informed him that the fluoride had been manufactured by Shanghai Minthchem Development in China.

"This type of trade from a country with a track record of lead paint on toys to antifreeze in cough syrup medicine is completely unacceptable," Miltenberger writes.

Heavy metal contamination is only the latest concern to emerge over the practice of water fluoridation, which has been controversial since its inception. Fluoride is a well-known toxic chemical, as Miltenberger notes:

"The material safety data sheets from Solvay fluorides show that a teaspoon amount of five grams of sodium fluoride can be fatal to an average size man of 70kg. ... chronic toxicity by oral route may cause skeletal and dental fluorosis, thyroid, testes, kidney, liver, ambiguous carcinogenic and mutagenic effects, fetotoxic and fertility effects."

Miltenberger also notes that fluoride toothpaste contains a warning that anyone who consumes more than a pea-size amount should contact a poison control center at once. This amount of toothpaste contains as much fluoride as just eight ounces of fluoridated water. A prescription-strength fluoride supplement marketed by Colgate warns that children under the age of six should not consume doses regularly added to municipal water.
