Even medical students want conventional medicine to include alternative therapies

(www.borganic.org) Are up-and-coming young doctors going to practice the same kind of mainstream medicine as their predecessors? Will the next generation of docs turn up their noses at alternative therapies such as acupuncture, yoga, herbs and vitamins -- just like the majority of the current crop of docs? In what may come as a surprise to many mainstream physicians, the answer to those questions may be a resounding "no".

According to research published in the online edition of the peer-reviewed journal Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine (eCAM), 75 percent of medical students surveyed think it would be beneficial for conventional Western medicine to integrate with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). CAM places emphasis on natural therapies and using the body's own healing powers instead of relying on drugs, vaccines and other standard Western treatments.

A University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and University of California, San Diego, research team comprised of experts in the fields of CAM, integrative medicine, Western medicine, medical education and survey development created a first of its kind 30 question survey that was distributed to 126 U.S. medical schools. Some 1,770 medical students completed the survey -- roughly, about three percent of the 68,000 medical students nationwide. Although the response rate to the survey was fairly low, the researchers say it provided valuable insights into current medical students' perceptions of CAM.

For example, the findings revealed that 77 percent of the medical student participants agreed patients whose doctors are knowledgeable about complementary and alternative medicine in addition to conventional medicine benefit more than those whose doctors are only familiar with Western medicine. In fact, 74 percent agreed that a medical system which integrated conventional medicine with CAM could be more effective that either type of medicine used independently.

A whopping 84 percent of the participants surveyed said CAM contains beliefs, ideas and therapies that could benefit conventional medicine. Some of this attitudinal shift in medical students could be the result of personal experiences -- almost half of the participants said they had used complementary and alternative treatments themselves.

"Complementary and alternative medicine, or CAM, is receiving increased attention in light of the global health crisis and the significant role of traditional medicine in meeting public health needs in developing countries," study author Ryan Abbott, a researcher at the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, said in a statement to the media. "Integrating CAM into mainstream health care is now a global phenomenon, with policymakers at the highest levels endorsing the importance of a historically marginalized form of health care."

The study also found that more than 60 percent of the medical student participants want more education related to CAM during their time in medical school. In a press statement, the researchers noted that although more than 50 percent of U.S. medical schools currently offer some type of CAM courses, these studies could be streamlined into more formal curricula as part of standardized medical school education.

"Although the content of integrative medicine programs remains controversial, medical schools across the country are moving forward with ambitious new programs to teach the next generation of health care leaders," concluded Dr. Ka-Kit Hui, the Wallis Annenberg Professor of Integrative East-West Medicine at UCLA, founder and director of the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, and chair of UCLA's Collaborative Centers for Integrative Medicine.

Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup in Beverages and Processed Foods

(www.borganic.org) If you think consuming products with high fructose corn syrup is a good way to avoid sugar, think again. You are better off with sugar! Of course, you probably know by now that any aspartame type sweetener is out of the question. But high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is also a very poor choice.

HFCS is a sweet deal for food processors and soft drink companies because it`s cheaper than sugar and even sweeter. It`s also easier to convince an unsuspecting consumer public that it`s healthier, even if it usually comes from GMO corn. But health hazards from GMO corn aren`t the only issues.

Why HFCS is Bad for You

Fructose in fruits and vegetables comes as part of a digestible whole food package that contains much less fructose than soft drinks and other processed foods. The digestive system is not familiar with high amounts of isolated fructose such as HFCS.

Dr. Andrew Weil states, "The body doesn`t handle large amounts of fructose well. You can maintain life with intravenous glucose, but not with intravenous fructose; severe derangement of liver function results. There is also evidence that a high intake of fructose elevates levels of circulating fats (serum triglycerides), increasing the risk of heart disease ..."

Our cells use glucose for energy by metabolizing carbohydrates. With glucose from cane or beet sugar, 20% is passed onto the liver to be metabolized. But the gut doesn`t know what to do with isolated high fructose. So it passes 100% of the isolated fructose into the liver.

Consequently, the liver metabolizes the high fructose content into mostly fats and triglycerides. High amounts of HFCS are apt to create non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and possibly cirrhosis. Insulin resistance is another manifestation of HFCS metabolic damage.

HFCS creates even more metabolic damage because it has no effect on ghrelin, which
stimulates appetite, and interferes with the brain`s leptin communication, which lets you know you`ve had enough to eat. This leads to overeating. Glucose suppresses ghrelin and doesn`t interfere with leptin. So hunger cravings are satisfied easily with glucose from even regular sugar.

Metabolic disorders from HFCS have been shown to induce diabetes type II and obesity, two outbreaks of bad health that have increased dramatically since 1975 when HFCS was introduced. Ironically, these two epidemics and rising heart disease have occurred despite successful campaigns of increased exercise with decreased fat intakes over the last three decades.

Processing HFCS leads to substantial levels of mercury.

Wait, There`s More!

As if HFCS is not enough, the food and beverage industry has recently one upped HFCS with crystalline fructose. It`s further refined and more potent than HFCS, which is 45% sucrose and 55% fructose. Crystalline fructose is 100% pure fructose, making it even more difficult to metabolize, and it`s more toxic with traces of chloride, lead, and arsenic.

Crystalline fructose is now being used in some sports drinks, flavored waters, and even so called health beverages.

What To Do

Simply avoid beverages and foods with high fructose corn syrup or crystalline fructose. Make your own fruit juices. Drink pure water with a pinch of organic unprocessed salt to rehydrate after exercise. For the sweet tooth, use stevia or raw organic honey and raw organic sugar in moderation instead.

It is Time to Stop Consuming Soy

(www.Borganic.org) Soy burgers, soy cheese, soy ice cream, soy baby formula, soybean oil, tofu, all the way to soy milk - soy has taken over in America with a reputation for being all natural and good for you. About 74 percent of U.S. consumers now believe soy products are healthy. Although soybeans are considered a vegetable, that alone does not make it necessarily healthy. It is interesting to note that soybeans were not listed as a food in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) handbook in 1913, but as an industrial product.

In 2009, the soybean industry was a $6.8 billion dollar industry! The marketing for soy has been aimed primarily at the health benefits of the isoflavones it contains, which is one of the phytochemicals in soybeans. Isoflavones are the compounds which are being studied in relation to the relief of certain menopausal symptoms, cancer prevention, slowing or reversing osteoporosis and reducing the risk of heart disease. The marketing and research has helped soymilk alone go from a $2 million dollar product in 1980 to $300 million dollar product in 2001! (2)

However, new research and studies have raised very important questions over the health benefits of soy. The core of their concerns rests with the chemical makeup of the soybean. Soybeans contain a natural chemical that mimics estrogen, the female hormone. Studies have shown that this chemical might increase the risk of breast cancer in some women, affect brain function in men and lead to hidden developmental ab-normalities in infants.

Jill Schneider is an associate professor of biological sciences at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Through her extensive research she has discovered that a component of soybeans - isoflavones - significantly accelerated the onset of puberty in the rodents. (3)

She points out that many babies who are allergic to cow`s milk are fed soy-based formulas, which contain isoflavones. Isoflavones, she says, can act like estrogen, a natural hormone important in the development of both male and female humans and a baby fed soy will receive, through the phytoestrogens, the equivalent of approximately 5 birth control pills per day! (4)

Besides soy mimicking estrogen in the body it also contains a dangerous substance called phytic acid (or also referred to as phytates). This substance is present in the bran or hulls of all seeds and legumes, but none have the high level of phytates which soybeans do. Phytic acid blocks the body`s uptake of essential minerals like magnesium, calcium, iron and especially zinc. Additionally, soybeans are highly resistant to phytate-reducing techniques, such as long, slow cooking.

In addition, soybeans also contain potent enzyme-inhibitors. These inhibitors specifically block uptake of trypsin and other enzymes. Trypsin and the other enzymes are needed for protein digestion. Without them it can lead to serious gastric distress and to chronic deficiencies in amino acid uptake.

Soybeans also contain hemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance which causes red blood cells to clump together and inhibits oxygen take-up and growth. Hemagglutinin and trypsin inhibitors are both "growth depressant" substances. Although the act of fermenting soybeans does de-activate both hemagglutinin and trypsin inhibitors, cooking and precipitation do not. (5)

It is clear that soy is not suitable for human consumption unless it has gone through a rigorous fermentation process to reduce the anti-nutrient and phytate levels. Examples of fermented soybeans are the following: tempeh, miso and natto and soybean sprouts.

If that's not enough a very large percentage of soy - over 90% - is genetically modified and it also has one of the highest percentages of contamination by pesticides of any of the foods we eat.

Spice Up Your Smoothies with Cinnamon Nutrition

(www.Borganic.org) Cinnamon nutrition has become very popular as a supplement in the USA. It is inexpensive, safe, and with proven health benefits. Most people who use cinnamon take cinnamon capsules. A more effective way to enjoy the health benefits of cinnamon nutrition, however, is to add the right kind of cinnamon to your smoothies or to drink as a tea.

What Kind of Cinnamon is Best?

If you have ever looked at different kinds of cinnamon available in bulk, you have probably noticed that one kind of cinnamon is a dark brown, while the other is more of a tan. The two kinds of cinnamon are actually from different plants. Cinnamomum cassia, used in curry powder and in Chinese and Korean dishes, is dark brown. The other variety of cinnamon, Cinnamomum zeylanicum, is a lighter brown or tan.

The kind of cinnamon that has been studied in clinical trials is the dark brown cinnamon Cinnamomum cassia. Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Unani medicine have used the darker form of cinnamon as a remedy for diabetes and digestive complaints for centuries. It is the herb used in a series of now-famous studies conducted in Pakistan and monitored by government-sponsored health organizations in the US and the Netherlands.

Studies on Cinnamon Nutrition

The first study of cinnamon as a treatment for diabetes tested daily consumption of 1, 3, or 6 grams (1 gram = 1,000 mg) of cinnamon or a placebo every day for 40 days. The Pakistani researchers found that among diabetics who used cinnamon:

- Fasting glucose was lowered 18 to 29 per cent. For most diabetics, this would be something in the range of 30-50 mg/dl, or 1-2.5 mM.
- LDL, or "bad," cholesterol fell by 7 to 27 per cent.
- Total cholesterol fell 12 to 26 per cent without any loss of the protective HDL cholesterol.
- Fasting triglycerides fell 23 to 30 per cent.

The benefits of using cinnamon continued even after supplementation was stopped. That means, if you used cinnamon regularly, you do not necessarily need cinnamon every day to receive the full benefits for blood sugar regulation and lowered levels of LDL, cholesterol, and triglycerides. In the interest of full disclosure, however, it is important to note that one recent study did not find the benefits of cinnamon to accrue in just 14 days. It is apparently necessary to use cinnamon in food for at least 40 days before you can "take a day off" and still get the protective benefits.

At least 52 studies have looked at various aspects of cinnamon and blood sugar regulation since the publication of the Pakistani study in 2003. Much of the criticism of cinnamon has been based on the entirely factual assertion that cinnamon alone is not enough for "tight control" of full-blown diabetes. For diabetics, cinnamon should be apart of a mixture of different avenues of treatment. People who take medications, like insulin and blood thinners, need to consult with their doctor before taking large amounts of cinnamon.

Cinnamon Nutrition in Smoothies

More cinnamon is not necessarily better. The optimum dose is 3 grams a day, not one or six. That's a little less than a teaspoon of cinnamon, about the amount you would use in a large smoothie.

If you are interested in saving money, buy your cinnamon in bulk amounts. Make sure to store your extra cinnamon in a closed container for optimum freshness.

Most smoothie recipes suggest adding cinnamon "to taste," but a good place to start is with a level teaspoon of cinnamon for every 2 cups of the smoothie. Adding cinnamon before blending maximizes aroma and flavor, although you can always sprinkle more on top as a garnish.

As Times Get Tough, It is Time for Beans and Rice

(www.Borganic.org) With jobs getting scarce and the economy falling amidst rumors of food shortages in large communities, here is a suggestion. Use bulk rice and beans. You'll cut your food costs considerably if you shop for bulk rice and beans at your local organic food supplier. Good nutrition and high fiber, and a good deal of protein, are included. You may be surprised at how tasty this staple can be.

Choosing the Right Stuff

Avoid even organic canned beans. By now you should know about the health hazards from linings inside of cans. Besides, those items have been precooked, heavily compromising their nutritional value. Don't bother with any packaged rice. You'll spend more for less without getting the best rice.

Go to the bulk sections of your health food store where there are organic grains and dry beans.
For optimum nutrition, buy mostly brown rice. Some white rice is okay, if you select organic Basmati white rice. Basmati rice is used in virtually all Ayurvedic (ancient medicine of India) recipes because it is easy to digest and it balances the doshas. There are three mind/body constitutional doshas or qualities that are the basis of Ayurvedic medicine.

A Short Course in Cooking Rice and Beans

Black beans need to be soaked in good water longer than garbanzo beans (chick peas). Make sure you put two and a half to three times more water than beans in the container. The beans absorb the water and swell considerably. Let them soak overnight so they'll be ready the next day. But lentils soak and cook quickly and are great with brown rice. There's your quicker, easier dinner on a budget.

Most brown rice usually needs very little rinsing. Basmati rice requires a thorough rinse to get rid of the oil coatings. Rinse until the milky quality from the oil coatings vanishes. There are several methods for cooking rice on the internet. But here's an easy fool proof cooking method, originally designed for brown rice that apparently works for white rice too.

Place one cup of rice with one and one/half cups of water in a pan. Bring to a boil, cover snugly, and put the heat on simmer for around 20 minutes. After that time, turn off the heat but keep the pan there for another 20 minutes with the lid on. Then it's ready to serve. Lentils can be timed along with this 40 minute rice cooking period, but other beans, especially resveratrol rich black beans, need more time and should be started earlier.

Yes, black beans contain the same resveratrol found in grapes, though not as much, which supports heart health and is a super anti-oxidant.

Time to Eat

The combinations of olive oil and lime or lemon, or perhaps a fermented soy sauce or a liquid amino sauce, along with chopped onions or tomatoes or some finely chopped nuts or ground flax seeds over the beans and rice adds nutrition, flavor, and variety. Black beans and white rice with lots of olive oil, some chopped onions, and a generous squeeze of lime or lemon is a favorite Cuban dish. Brown rice with lentils or garbanzos is great too. Peas and chopped nuts can be used with either rice as well.

Trial and error with other combinations will be inexpensive, fulfilling, and healthy. You'll be spending less for food now while keeping bulk items on hand for the future. It may be wise to start experimenting with various combinations so you'll be used to mixing and matching these basic foods for your benefit before things get worse.

How to Make a Creamy Smoothie with a Fresh Avocado

(www.borganic.org) Fresh avocado cultivation began over 10,000 years ago mainly in tropical areas. Throughout history people have loved eating avocados in many different ways. One of those ways has only been recently discovered since the invention of the electric blender. Do you enjoy healthy smoothies? Are you interested in incorporating healthy fats into your diet? Blend a fresh avocado into a creamy smoothie!

How to Pick a Fresh Avocado for a Smoothie

North and Central America leads the world in avocado production. California and Texas avocados are offshoots of the avocados grown by the Aztecs. Florida avocados are descendants of trees found in the West Indies. Avocados from Florida are bigger and less expensive. Avocados from California and Texas have a richer, creamier texture and a nuttier flavor.

The larger the avocado, the more perishable it is. A fully ripe fresh avocado from California usually shows no discoloration when it is cut. A fresh avocado from Florida can show darkening and discoloration even if it is not bruised.

How do you know if your avocado is ripe? Test for ripeness by cradling the avocado in the palm of your hand. If it is an avocado from Florida and yields to gentle pressure, it is ready to serve. If it is an avocado from California and yields to gentle pressure, give it one more day. Once an avocado is cut, the ripening process terminates.

How to Prepare an Avocado

How do you slice an avocado? Slice the fresh avocado lengthwise, cutting around the pit. Twist the halves in opposite directions. Do not remove the pit unless you intend to use the entire avocado at once. Some people even like blending the pit in their smoothie.

A fresh avocado will darken after it has been cut open. Place plastic wrap over any unused portion of the avocado and refrigerate. You can also spread lemon juice on the unused half to prevent further oxidization. Refrigerate whole avocados only if you want to stop the ripening process.

Benefits of Avocado

Avocados offer a generous supply of healthy fats, vitamin A, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, and vitamin E.

The tremendous benefit of adding fresh avocado to your smoothie is that it makes many of the nutrients in the other foods you eat much more easily absorbed. Vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, astraxanthin, zeaxanthin, and calcium are all 50 to 1000 per cent better absorbed in the presence of fats from avocado.

It is not necessary to use a lot of avocado to enhance absorption of fat-soluble nutrients. As little as 1 teaspoon of avocado is enough. Avocados are high in fat, but they also deliver a day's supply of magnesium, and half a day's supply of fiber!

Tips on How to Make Avocado Smoothies

The avocado smoothies that are very popular in Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia are made with sweetened condensed milk. You can make a dairy-free version with almond, coconut, or rice milk. For a traditional Mexican avocado smoothie, sweeten with agave nectar.

Use a half to one whole fresh avocado for every two cups of milk or milk substitute to make an avocado smoothie. For flavored smoothies, use half of the avocado for every two cups of milk or milk substitute with peaches, persimmons, mangos, pineapple, or other tropical fruits.

Six Deadly Chemicals You're Carrying in Your Body

(www.Borganic.org) A recent biomonitoring study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Fourth National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals, has revealed that out of 212 chemicals tested, all 212 were found to be in the blood and urine of most Americans. Six chemicals in particular, found in virtually every person, were identified by the CDC as probable health hazards.

Every two years the CDC conducts the chemical study which identifies human exposure to toxic chemicals. This year 75 new chemicals were added to the assay that had never before been studied in the U.S. population. Every chemical tested in the study, including the 75 new ones, was found to be present in most or all of the study participants.

The six most widespread chemicals identified, all of which are also highly dangerous, include polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PDEs), bisphenol A (BPA), Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), acrylamide, mercury, and methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE).

Flame retardant PDEs are chemicals added to all sorts consumer products that are meant to decrease fire risk. They are known to build up in human fat tissue, causing damage to the nervous system, liver and kidneys. Studies also implicate PDEs in causing sexual dysfunction, thyroid problems and brain disorders.

Bisphenol A, a chemical that has received much attention recently, is another toxin added primarily to plastic products and can linings that contributes to many of the same problems that PDEs do. More than 90 percent of those tested in the CDC study were found to have BPA in their bodies.

Perfluorooctanoic acid, a chemical first developed by 3M and later used by DuPont, is used in non-stick cookware, stain-resistant clothing, certain food packaging and other heat-resistant products. Studies verify that PFOA contributes to infertility and other reproductive problems. Liver and immune system dysfunction are also associated with the use of PFOAs.

Acrylamide is a chemical carcinogen that forms when carbohydrate foods are cooked at high temperatures. French fries, fried chicken, and even coffee are all examples of foods that have high acrylamide content. The chemical is also used in plastics, cosmetics and water treatment products. Perpetual exposure to acrylamides is responsible for causing cancer and neurological dysfunction.

Most people are aware of the dangers of mercury, another common toxin found in most Americans. Mercury can cause permanent brain damage.

Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is a gasoline additive that is not used today, however it has been detected in water supplies as well as in most Americans' bodies. Second-hand cigarette smoke also releases MTBE which caused neurological and reproductive problems.

The report indicates suggestions to help avoid these chemicals and the products that contain them. Cleansing and detoxification regimens are highly effective at continually ridding the body of toxic build-up.

Pesticides are killing birds, bees, and bats by the millions

(www.borganic.org) Estimates from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service indicate that millions of birds and fish die every year from pesticide exposure. Scientists are now discovering that even low level exposure is disrupting the animal kingdom and causing new diseases to develop, threatening many species with extinction.

Roughly 90 percent of the nation's rivers and streams are contaminated with pesticides, affecting more than 80 percent of fish. More than 30 percent of the nation's aquifers are contaminated as well, affecting the drinking water of millions of people.

In recent years, scientists have been observing the decimation of many species of bees, amphibians, and bats due to pesticides. In just a few years, over one million bats in the northeastern United States have died from diseases caused by pesticide exposure. More than 1,800 species of sea creatures face extinction from exposure and many researchers suspect that colony collapse disorder (CCD) among bees is being caused by pesticides as well.

Some of the smallest sea creatures being affected are spreading disease all the way up the food chain. Seals that eat contaminated herring are dying by the thousands, illustrating how even limited exposure can have widespread consequences.

Carlos Davidson, a conservation biologist from San Francisco State University, believes that pesticides directly inhibit immune function in animals exposed to them, causing them to act as hosts for diseases. Novel diseases that have left scientists at a loss for an explanation are likely developing in part from the overuse of antibiotics in the general population. Together, a deadly combination is formed that threatens both animal and human life.

Back in the 1970s, scientists discovered that insecticides were being carried by the wind from crops in the San Joaquin Valley of California up to the Sierra Nevada Mountains where they contaminated air, water, and snow in this otherwise pristine area. Eventually, researchers found that amphibians living in lakes and streams were wrought with the same pesticides. Because the amphibian population declined heavily between the 1970s and the 1990s, the same time that those pesticides were used in the valley, Davidson believes that pesticides were the culprit in those deaths.

Many see the obvious connection between pesticide exposure and vulnerability to disease; however, proving it without a doubt is a difficult task. Many concerned scientists recognize the problem but do not know what to do about it. Unless something is done to greatly reduce pesticide use, the entire existence of the animal kingdom is at stake.

Cesium: A Cancer Cure that Slipped through the Cracks

(www.Borganic.org) Cesium, an extremely alkaline mineral, has been used effectively on cancer since the 1930s. Cesium chloride is considered a potent cancer treatment for even stage four levels of cancer and cancer metastasized throughout the body, including lymphoma and leukemia. It is relatively inexpensive and safe. Selling or purchasing cesium chloride is not illegal.

Nevertheless, practitioners who use it are often attacked by the Medical Mafia. Because health practitioners risk dire consequences for using it in their practice, most cancer victims using cesium as a treatment need to rely on the cesium vendor`s guidance for proper use. Unlike Essiac tea and apricot kernels, this is a cancer treatment protocol that requires little knowledgeable supervision.

Cesium Cancer Treatment History

In the 1930s, a physicist named A. Keith Brewer got into cancer research. He focused on the membranes surrounding normal cells, rapidly growing cells, and dead tissue. His research evolved into a protocol using cesium chloride. A trial involving 30 patients with various forms of cancer resulted in all 30 surviving their cancers.

That was before chemotherapy had begun wiping out cancer victims' immune systems. So those 30 patients were not damaged by chemotherapy. This was not the case for Dr. H. E. Sartori, who began his cesium cancer therapy program with 50 patients in April 1981 at Life Sciences Universal Medical Clinics in Rockville, Md.

Almost all of these cancer patients were in terminal condition or had undergone the full range of cut (surgery), burn (radiation), and poison (chemotherapy) the AMA could offer. They were virtually mainstream medical rejects. Yet half of them survived their cancers from Dr. Sartoris` cesium therapy.

Dr. Sartori, originally from Austria, left the States in 1992 after his clinic was raided and harassed by various agencies. He went to Thailand to continue his practice, but in 2006 wound up being arrested for murder in Australia when an Australian patient of his died. His current status is unknown by this journalist. It appears the Medical Mafia is everywhere!

Cesium Chloride Basics

Cancer cells are anaerobic and acidic. Their outer membranes are often impenetrable from normal antibodies and from killer cells once the immune system is compromised. Cancer cells start forming when the outer walls of cells are inflamed by toxins and carcinogens. Those outer walls become hardened, making it difficult for oxygen to enter while still taking in glucose.

Then the cells resort to fermenting glucose for its energy instead of oxidizing it. The fermentation results in a decreased pH (under 6.5) in the cell with an increase of lactic acid, which overwhelms the cell`s DNA/RNA capacity to control cell growth. Then uncontrolled growth of cancerous cells occurs.

Cesium chloride is one of a very few molecules that can penetrate cancer cells. Cesium`s high alkalinity shoots the cell`s pH to 8.0 or higher (normal is 7) while the serum (blood) pH stays at or below normal. This sudden rise in alkalinity would destroy any cell in a few days. However, normal cells do not take in the cesium chloride. It targets only the cancer cells. DMSO gets cesium into cancer cells even more effectively.

This process leeches out some of the serum potassium in one`s body. So potassium needs to be monitored and supplemented accordingly to prevent potassium depletion. Another concern is ensuring the uric acid from dead cancer cells doesn`t affect the kidneys. Both situations are easily and inexpensively remedied.

Though one can administer cesium chloride after purchasing it, some guidance from the vendor is necessary. This is available. Do your research, starting with the sources below.

Satisfy Your Appetite and Become Regular with Psyllium Supplements in Smoothies

(www.borganic.org) As the New Year begins, most people are searching for ways to rejuvenate their health. Two keys are to satisfy your appetite and to regulate your digestive system. Psyllium supplements are a well-known remedy for irregularity of the bowels. But ground psyllium husks added to smoothies do more than just provide fiber. They also regulate appetite and fat absorption in ways that make smoothies diet food.

Satisfy Your Appetite

The most interesting benefit of supplemental psyllium, due to its bulkiness, may be its ability to satisfy your appetite. We all know, for instance, that a blackberry smoothie is a great source of antioxidants. But it usually doesn`t satisfy for long periods of time. If you add psyllium to your smoothie, you will be satisfied longer.

The soluble fibers in psyllium make smoothies "thicker." Sensors lining the stomach and small intestine register the changes in viscosity of the beverage after the addition of psyllium. A "thicker smoothie" has this effect on the whole body within an hour of consumption.

A decrease in ghrelin occurs after you eat your meal. Higher levels of this hormone signal the brain that the stomach has not yet received enough food. Lower levels of this hormone signal the brain that the stomach is full. This effect results when the stomach senses the consistency of the smoothie. So when taking psyllium supplements in capsules, you may not have the same effect.

Regulate Your Digestive System

The usual situation is that the colon is deficient in helpful, or symbiotic, bacteria. It takes 2 or 3 months for them to accumulate to numbers great enough to start using fiber as their food. When bacteria feed on fiber, the bacteria themselves start to fill up the colon and bacteria are easy to expel. These symbiotic bacteria do not cause disease. In fact, they make vitamin K and they treat constipation.

Psyllium supplements have many other colon-friendly applications:

The soluble fibers in psyllium relieve the alternating constipation and diarrhea, as well as bloating and gas, common in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The insoluble fibers in bran often make IBS worse, especially at the beginning of treatment.

Regular consumption of psyllium supplements slightly reduces bloodstream concentrations of a clotting factor known as fibrinogen. Fibrinogen, as it name suggests, turns proteins into fibers. These fibers become a net that "catches" clots that then clog arteries. In obese individuals, modest reductions of clotting factors may reduce risk of heart attacks and stroke while creating danger of spontaneous or excessive bleeding.

Tips for Using Psyllium in Smoothies

And it`s also important to understand that the psyllium you use must be thoroughly blended into the smoothie. You should never take psyllium supplements without fluid, at least 8 oz (240 ml) for every scant teaspoon (2 g) of the psyllium husks. (You also need to drink water if you take psyllium capsules, at least 1/2 cup or 120 ml of water for each 1 g capsule.)

If you are using the psyllium in a smoothie, of course, you don`t need additional fluid - as long as you limit the amount of psyllium in your smoothie to a single, level or scant teaspoon. More is not better. Just a little psyllium is enough to make the smoothie more filling and also to help your regularity.

Use Chinese Herbal Medicine to Create Harmony and Health

(www.Borganic.org) Chinese herbal medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine with the earliest known written herbal formulas dating back to the 3rd century BC. Prior to being written down, herbal remedies were passed down by word of mouth and may date back as far as 3500 BC. Chinese medicine teaches that people are either in harmony or out of harmony. Disease is caused by disharmony and cured by restoring harmony to the body.

It is believed that we are sustained by a life force called "qi" (pronounced "chee"). It is believed each person is born with a fixed amount, called Yuan Qi, which is inherited from our parents. We can nourish it, but cannot add to it. We can also deplete it through unhealthy living. Chinese medicine works to unblock the flow of qi if it is stuck or nourish it if it is lacking.

Qi is found everywhere in our body; qi protects us from disease and fights it when we get sick. Qi keeps our organs healthy, transforms our food into essential bodily substances, keeps our body warm, and is the source of healthy growth. According to traditional Chinese medicine, blocked or weak qi can prevent our organs from working properly and lead to disease.

While qi is found everywhere in our bodies, there are 12 main pathways, called meridians, where chi flows. The 12 main meridians correspond to the 12 main organs in the body such as liver, heart, lung, stomach, and kidneys. For medicinal purposes, an organ includes the meridian that is associated with it. For example, the liver meridian runs from the big toe up the inside of the leg through the genitals into the liver. Organs also have general body responsibilities. The liver is also responsible for the general flow if qi in the body, digestion, and stable emotions. Treating the liver can fix problems anywhere on the liver meridian as well as the general body functions it is responsible for.

In traditional Chinese medicine diseases are classified as being caused by wind, heat, damp, or cold. A Chinese Herbalist will seek to identify which organ is the source of disease and whether it is caused by wind, heat, damp, cold, or a combination. An herbal prescription will include multiple herbs. Some of the herbs will be used because they have been proven to work for a given condition, and some herbs will be chosen to fit you personally because Chinese medicine believes each person and condition are unique.

When you consult with a practitioner of Chinese herbal medicine, you will start a journey towards total body health. You will need to meet with him or her more than once to make sure the prescribed herbal remedies are having the desired effect as well as to make adjustments to get the best results. At the end of your treatment, your body should be in harmony and have a strong life force.

More evidence emerges that Americans are drugged out of their minds

(www.Borganic.org) The U.S. is a nation seemingly hooked on mind-altering drugs (http://www.naturalnews.com/027054_d...). A study released last fall in the Archives of General Psychiatry documented a dramatic increase in the use of antidepressant drugs like Prozac since l996. In fact, these medications are now the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.S.

Think Americans are maxed out on the number of psychiatric meds that huge numbers of them are taking? Think again. A new report says U.S. adults are increasingly being prescribed combinations of antidepressants, anti-anxiety and antipsychotic medications -- and they could be experiencing serious side effects as a result.

The study, published in the January edition of Archives of General Psychiatry, investigated patterns and trends in what is known as psychotropic polypharmacy, meaning the prescribing of two or more psychiatric drugs. Ramin Mojtabai, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., of the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and Mark Olfson, M.D., M.P.H., of Columbia University Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute, examined data gathered from a national sample of office-based psychiatry practices. In all, the researchers looked at the medications prescribed between 1996 and 2006 during more than 13,000 office visits to psychiatrists by adults.

The results showed a significant increase in the number of mind impacting drugs prescribed over these years. The percentage of doctor visits which resulted in two or more medications being prescribed increased from 42.6 percent to 59.8 percent. What's more, the percentage of visits at which three or more drugs were prescribed soared from 16.9 percent to 33.2 percent. And the median number of medications prescribed at each appointment with a psychiatrist increased on average by of 40.1 percent.

The combinations of drugs being prescribed with increasing frequency include antidepressants with sedative-hypnotics (the most prescribed combination), antidepressants given along with antipsychotics and combinations of several kinds of antidepressants. But at least the doctors prescribing these mixed drugs are only doing so based on solid research showing the combos are safe and effective, right? Wrong.

"Because scant data exist to support the efficacy of some of the most common medication combinations, such as antipsychotic combinations or combinations of antidepressants and antipsychotics, prudence suggests that renewed clinical efforts should be made to limit the use of these combinations to clearly justifiable circumstances," the authors wrote in their paper. "At the same time, a new generation of research is needed to assess the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of common concomitant medication regimens, especially in patients with multiple disorders or monotherapy-refractory conditions."

In other words, drugs are being given to patients in all sorts of combinations without sound science showing they even work well together -- much less that these drug cocktails are safe to take. In fact, the researchers point out specific dangers of taking multiple psychiatric drugs.

"While the evidence for added benefit of antipsychotic polypharmacy is limited, there is growing evidence regarding the increased adverse effects associated with such combinations," they concluded. A case in point: some combinations cause increases in body weight and total cholesterol level. Others have been associated with an increase in fasting blood glucose level.

The Amish are much healthier than the rest of America

(www.borganic.org) They're known for using horse-drawn buggies, avoiding modern conveniences, and wearing old-fashioned clothing. But do the Amish possess something that the rest of us don't, primarily a lifestyle that prevents disease and leads to a better quality of life? According to a recent study published in the journal Cancer Causes and Control, that seems to be the case; cancer rates among the Amish are far lower than in the rest of the American population and they are far healthier than most Americans.

Researchers from Ohio State University's James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute originally began studying the Ohio Amish population with the hypothesis that cancer rates would be higher among the Amish because they are closed off from society and they often intermarry. On the contrary, it was discovered that not only are their cancer rates lower but the Amish live a lifestyle that promotes health and well-being.

The study found that the cancer rate among the Amish is only 60 percent of the Ohio population at large. Most Amish people do not smoke or drink and they are typically not sexually promiscuous, leading researchers to believe that these lifestyle factors play an important role in the limited number of cancer cases.

Other factors examined include the high amount of physical labor undertaken by the Amish. Most Amish people work in farming, construction, and other production jobs that require intense physical activity that keeps them healthy and in shape. While the rest of America sits in fluorescent-lit cubicles all day, the Amish work hard to produce crops, build furniture and structures, and produce useful goods, which researchers recognize contributes to their excellent health.

Another important factor not specifically examined in the study is the fact that the Amish grow and raise all their own food. They employ time-tested, organic methods that provide them with healthy fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, and other untainted foods that most Americans never get. Rich in living enzymes, vitamins, and nutrients Amish food is grown and raised the way it should be, resulting in improved health.

While some may ridicule their secluded lifestyle, the Amish commitment to simple, productive lives and clean, local food is benefiting their health in ways that the rest of America can only dream about. When compared to a life of sitting in office buildings all day, eating processed and genetically-modified junk food, and popping prescription medications, it becomes clear which lifestyle is truly deserving of contempt.

Three Approved GMO Crops Linked to Organ Damage, New Study Shows

(www.Borganic.org) Genetically Modified crops (or GM) are genetically modified organisms (GMO) that have been altered to meet a specific profile. They have also been the subject of controversy almost since their introduction two decades ago. A new study pinpoints three variations of GM corn (maize) as being linked to organ damage in mammals.

The three varieties in question are Mon 810, Mon 863, and NK 603. The "Mon" is for, you guessed it, Monsanto and the NK is also a Monsanto product, being engineered for herbicide tolerance. The study was conducted by the Committee of Research and Information on Genetic Engineering (CRIIGEN) and the Universities of Caen and Rouen in France.1

The study used the same data that was used by Monsanto to gain approval in several parts of the world. The data was released publicly in 2005 by European authorities when the three GM strains were approved for human consumption in both the U.S. and Europe.

Gilles-Eric Seralini, a molecular biologist at the University of Caen and one of the principals in the study, says that the data "clearly underlines adverse impacts on kidneys and liver, the dietary detoxifying organs, as well as different levels of damages to heart, adrenal glands, spleen and haematopoietic system."

Each of the three strains produced differing amounts of adverse impact, but the impact on vital organs was universal for all three GM crops.

The study was completed in December 2009 and appears in the International Journal of Biological Sciences1 (IJBS). It conforms with and substantiates an earlier study done by CRIIGEN in 2007 on Mon 863.2 The results of that study were rejected by Monsanto.3

One controversy many point to when criticizing Monsanto's counter-analysis as well as the governmental acceptance of the GM crops is in the way Monsanto's studies were carried out. Traditionally, when testing drug, pesticide, or other human-ingested items' safety, the standard protocol is to use three different mammalian species.

Monsanto used only rats for their studies, but still managed to win GMO approval in at least a dozen countries. Further, the studies were carried out in only 90 day spans, which is not long enough to find most chronic problems.

Other problems with Monsanto's studies should have raised more red flags, but they were ignored by the governmental panels put in charge of making the decision to allow the company's genetically modified crops into wide distribution in their countries.

The new CRIIGEN study concludes that the raw data makes it clear that all three GMO crops have real problems and should be put under "an immediate ban on the import and export of these GMOs." The study also strongly recommends additional long-term, multi-generational animal feeding studies be done on at least three species to provide truly scientific "data on the acute and chronic toxic effects of GM crops, feed and foods."

Blend organic Coconut Nutrition into Your Smoothies

(www.borganic.org) As cow's milk becomes more and more processed throughout the years, many people find that they are lactose-intolerant or allergic to milk. Coconut milk is a nutritious and delicious substitute for cow's milk. Complementing the flavors of pineapple, peach, mango, or Acidophilous-enriched yogurt, coconut milk not only tastes great in a smoothie, but coconut nutrition also has benefits that don't get a lot of publicity.

Beneficial Fat in Coconuts

Coconut milk is high in saturated fat, nearly 25 grams (225 calories) in half a cup, but the fat in coconut milk is healthy fat. The fatty acids in coconut milk are of the medium chain triacylglycerol or MCT type. The distinguishing feature of MCTs so important to coconut nutrition is that they are burned faster than other types of fatty acids. They are especially beneficial for providing energy for the lymph nodes, liver, and fat cells themselves. (Even fat cells need energy.)

MCTs are absorbed only by the older, more highly differentiated fat cells, rather than fat cells formed after exposure to certain medications (such as the diabetes drugs Actos and Avandia). Once inside the cell, they form smaller droplets that are more easily joined by enzymes and more quickly converted into energy by the cell. MCTs are less "fattening" than other kinds of fatty acids.

Coconut milk, like the "meat" of the coconut, is rich in coconut oil. Virgin coconut oil is 50 to 55 percent lauric acid. This fatty acid stops microbial growth. As a result, foods prepared with coconut milk or coconut oil last longer. Coconut oil stays fresh at room temperature for up to a year.

Although too much of a good thing is possible with coconut nutrition as it is with any food, moderate amounts of coconut oil from coconut milk stimulate thyroid function and encourage weight loss, so much that Asian farmers avoid feeding coconut to farm animals they want to fatten up.

Using coconut oil in moderate amounts, up to about 2 tablespoons (30 ml) a day, in place of other oils, may help you lose weight (about 1 pound or half a kilo a month) even if you eat the same portions of other foods. You can get the same result from using 1/4 cup of coconut milk a day in your smoothies.

Lauric Acid Fights Acne

The lauric acid in coconut milk is also an effective antibacterial against the principle bacterium involved in acne, Propioniobacterium acnes. The lauric acid survives digestion, enters the bloodstream, and is attracted to the sebum created in pores of the skin. Dissolving in the sebum, it may slow down the growth of the acne bacteria that feed on excess sebum (not so much that they cannot do their job of "clean up," but enough that they are less likely to multiply out of control and form byproducts that inflame pores).

Tips for using coconut milk in smoothies

A little of the unsweetened coconut milk goes a long way. You probably don't want more than one cup of coconut milk in a two-cup smoothie. Store unused coconut milk in a glass container in the refrigerator or freezer. Or just use all the coconut milk at once to make an extra smoothie for a friend.

If you are allergic to coconut, you are not necessarily allergic to coconut milk, although you might want to try just a very tiny amount of coconut milk first before you try an entire smoothie. You will want to avoid coconut milk altogether if you have ever had an anaphylactic reaction to coconut or coconut oil.

Got Gout: Try These Natural Organic Therapies

(www.Borganic.org) Gout is one of over one hundred forms of arthritis. Fortunately it is highly treatable. In recent years natural remedies for gout have become very popular. The primarily reason for this is that most gout medications have severe side effects, or are not safe long term. Natural remedies are safe to take and have no side effects. As an added benefit, most natural treatments contain ingredients that will help improve the bodies overall health. For these reasons, many medical professionals believe that natural remedies for gout are your best alternative.

Gout occurs when levels of uric acid are abnormally elevated causing severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness, and inflammation. Needle shaped uric acid crystals stab their way into joints rendering lightning bolts of pain. Over time, these episodic attacks can eventually lead to joint damage.

Obesity and an improper diet increase the risk of developing gout. It has been called the rich man`s disease because of its association with overindulgence of rich food and alcohol. But in fact it affects people of all ages, from all walks of life. It may be inherited or brought on by crash dieting, certain medications, overeating, stress, surgery or injury to a joint.

The best way to get a diagnosis of gout is for a physician to insert a needle into the affected joint, remove some fluid and examine it for uric acid crystals.

It is recommended that when an attack occurs, eat only raw fruits and vegetables for two weeks. Good idea to eat more of those anyway. Drink fresh or frozen juices such as cherry juice and celery juice diluted with distilled, not tap, water. Eat lots of cherries. A cup a day is said to stave off painful episodes. Strawberries and blueberries will neutralize uric acid. Other safe foods during an episode are rice, millet, starchy vegetables, green vegetables, corn, seeds and grains.

Foods to avoid and discourage another gout flare-up are: meat of any kind, sardines, scallops, shellfish, mushrooms, mussels, peanuts, mackerel, asparagus, alcohol beverages, and diet soda. Limit your intake of caffeine, cauliflower, dried beans and lentils, oatmeal, peas, spinach and yeast products.

Helpful herbs are: bilberry extract, turmeric, celery seed, chamomile, lady`s mantle (yarrow), peppermint or skullcap. Prescription for Nutritional Healing recommends 2,000 to 3,000 milligrams daily of alfalfa, a good source of minerals that reduces uric acid. Devil`s claw and yucca can aid in relieving pain. Other herbs to try are birch, burdock, colchicum tincture, hyssop and juniper.

Vitamin B12, vitamin E, folate, and the B family of vitamins are a part of nutritional home remedies for gout treatment along with regular exercise that improves circulation such as stretching, dancing, yoga, Tai Chi, and aerobics.

Drink as much water as you can to flush uric acid from the system.

Apply an activated charcoal poultice to draw out toxins. Combine 1/2 cup powdered charcoal with 1/4 cup ground flaxseed. Mix in warm water until it becomes a thick paste, apply to the joint, and then wrap securely. Caution, this will stain clothing.

Soak the affected joint for thirty to sixty minutes in a mix of hot water and activated charcoal.

Avoid taking high doses of niacin (over 50 milligrams daily.) Large doses of niacin can cause a build up of uric acid, triggering gout.

Herbs Help Treat Diabetes: Organic Bilberry, Gymnema, Ginkgo and Salt Bush

(www.Borganic.org) Many herbal remedies are used to treat symptoms of diabetes and have shown results in naturally lowering blood sugar levels. Scientific research is now shedding new light on the mechanisms used since ancient times to treat diabetes with herbs and nutrition.

Diabetes was noted as far back as Ancient Greece. The name comes from two Greek words meaning the siphon and to run through, which describes the diabetic symptom of excess urine. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, where over twenty three million, almost eight percent of the population, have been diagnosed with the disorder. The number of cases of diabetes doubled from 1990 to 2005 and is expected to double again by 2050. Side effects of diabetes include kidney disease, congestive heart failure, stroke, blindness and hearing loss.

The cause of diabetes is not known but 90% of those with Type 2 diabetes are obese. Most consider that diabetes is triggered by numerous factors, including inheritance, nutrition, obesity, infection, hormonal imbalances, and stress.

One of the commonly used herbs to treat diabetes is Bilberry, or European Blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus). The leaves of this plant have been shown to lower blood sugar. Traditional usage was a few handfuls of leaves in three to four cups of water simmered for a half hour. A few cups of Bilberry tea lower blood sugar. Extracts of Bilberry are now available and a dosage is between 80 to 160 mg three times a day to treat diabetes.

Gymnema sylvestre
The Indian plant, Gymnema is part of the milkweed family. It is known as Gurmar in Hindi, meaning "Sugar Destroyer," and has been used in Ayurvedic, or Indian, Medicine for centuries. Research has shown that 400 mg a day of Gymnema will help glucose to be reabsorbed into the blood, thereby lowering blood sugar.

Salt Bush
Israeli research on the Salt Bush plant, or Atriplex halim, has demonstrated its ability to improve blood sugar regulation. The study used 3 grams a day of the herb to treat diabetes.

Ginkgo biloba
Ginkgo biloba is used by herbalists to treat the side effects of diabetes, particularly by increasing blood flow to the limbs and the eyes. Because of Ginkgo's effect on blood vessels, it is used to prevent diabetic retinopathy. Research has also confirmed Ginkgo's effect on depression in diabetes and non-diabetes sufferers. The active ingredient is called ginkgo flavoglycoside, and the daily dosage is 0 to 80 mg three times a day to treat diabetes symptoms.

Diabetes symptoms can be treated with herbs, as has been shown since ancient times and by modern research. Using plants as integrative medicine, diabetics can enjoy the symptom-reducing effects of botanical medicine.

Doctors Need to Become Healers, Part I (Opinion)

(www.Borganic.org) There should be deep concern and appall at the alarmingly poor state of health of the American people. American medical doctors have utterly failed the American people, their trusting patients. Were doctors to become true healers instead of shills for the pharmaceutical industry, maybe then the American people would have a true shot at regaining their health.

Millions of Americans are dying unnecessarily. They are the brutalized and agonized victims of indiscriminate manslaughter, crucified by the premeditated malpractice of a totally misinformed and misguided American medical community. To add insult to injury, this disgraceful and dishonorable malpractice on living human beings is motivated by only money and sheer stupidity, avarice and ruinous medical application.

Most medical doctors should have their licenses revoked at once. This should be done to stop immediately the grossly offensive, shocking and disgraceful malpractice of guesstimation, diagnosing and the mistaken use of poison chemical drug therapy. Promulgated by the physical-chemical scientists and the giant pharmaceutical industry, this chemical drug therapy results in broken lives and untimely deaths.

Why is it so difficult for anyone to understand that "Mother Nature" does not require any outside interference from the medical community to care for or heal the human body? Medical schools are continuously turning out future would-be murderers, butchers, poisoners, electrocuters, zombiemakers and frauds, certainly not healers.

Vibrant health and the elimination of disease are contrary to the basic economic interests of the American medical profession and the medical-drug-hospital industry combined. Why? Because there is no money in healthy people.

The corrupt American medical profession is guilty of irresponsible deception and chicanery in the promiscuous and senseless crimes of manslaughter of millions of Americans. This is due to the use of utterly stupid, archaic and immorally wrong Pasteurian methods of treating the ill, sick and diseased.

Remember this; a medical doctor cannot cure you of any illness, sickness or disease. Your own body is the greatest doctor on Earth. Your body can effectively prevent bodily disturbances and heal itself of any body-chemistry imbalance if given the chance through biological hygiene, proper nutrition, proper elimination and lack of excessive enervation.

Medical doctors have been taught to treat symptoms only, not causes of bodily disturbances. As a result, millions of innocent human beings will continue to die needlessly. Medical doctors cannot effectively treat what they do not or will not understand and seem to know so little of - the natural biological processes of the marvelous human organism. Factually, they have no training in natural methods of bodily care and healing. The American medical community makes no attempt to teach preventative medicine. They are only interested in the economics of treating symptoms.

Stay tuned for Part 2

Boost Your Immune System with Smoothies

(www.Borganic.org) Beginning of the school year, rumors of the swine flu sparked great fear around the world. As viruses and bacteria begin to spread like wild fire throughout our communities, you are probably searching for the best immune system supplements to protect your family in addition to a well-balanced diet. When trying to choose the best immune boosting supplement for your family, you need something that is simple to incorporate into your lifestyle. One of the best immune system supplements known throughout history is astragalus root.

You may be surprised that astragalus may also assist in reducing the following: cardiovascular disease, chemotherapy side effects, common cold, diabetes, HIV, and AIDS. Studies have shown that astragalus may actually further suppress cancerous tumors from growing. But astragalus is mainly known for its ability to boost the immune system.

Basics on Astragalus

According to drugs.com, astragalus has no known adverse effects. For those who take immunosuppressive medication you should be aware that astragalus should not be taken; it stimulates the immune system and may cause the medication to not be as effective. Also, astragalus should not be ingested during a fever.

There are many different ways to take astragalus. The root is usually created into a decoction by simmering the root in water for a couple minutes. Then you drink the decoction as you would tea. You can also purchase the extract or capsulated versions.

If you are looking to save money while boosting your immune system, purchase astragalus powder in bulk form. You can encapsulate it yourself or add the powder to your food as you cook.

Dosages for Astragalus

You should always follow the advice of a medical professional when determining the dosage for your body. Each variety of astragalus product may suggest different amounts depending on its strength. Follow the directions listed on the label.

Drugs.com says that the average recommended dose for an adult is 2-6 grams of astragalus powder. 4 grams of powder is equivalent to approximately 1 teaspoon for an adult. Since astragalus is almost tasteless, 1 teaspoon of astragalus powder can be easily hidden in different foods, like soups, sauces, or smoothies. You can also easily hide the strained decoction in foods.

How to Use Astragalus in Smoothies

Smoothies are convenient and many people, young and old, love them. It is usually easier to get your kids to drink an immune boosting smoothie than to swallow the capsules.

You have two main forms of astragalus to choose from when adding astragalus into your smoothies. The easiest way is to use the bulk powder. The second way is to create a decoction for the liquid of the smoothie. For your convenience, the recipes below use astragalus powder.

Astragalus Smoothie Recipes

Makes 2 - 1 cup servings

Strawberry Banana Smoothie
1 cup fresh strawberries
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup fresh fruit juice
2 tablespoons honey or 1/2 tsp stevia powder
1 tsp astragalus powder
8 ice cubes
Place the fresh ingredients under the frozen ingredients into the blender and blend until completely smooth. Makes 2 - 1 cup servings

Chocolate Peppermint Smoothie

Window cleaning chemical injected into fast food hamburger meat

(www.Borganic.org) If you're in the beef business, what do you do with all the extra cow parts and trimmings that have traditionally been sold off for use in pet food? You scrape them together into a pink mass, inject them with a chemical to kill the e.coli, and sell them to fast food restaurants to make into hamburgers.

That's what's been happening all across the USA with beef sold to McDonald's, Burger King, school lunches and other fast food restaurants, according to a New York Times article. The beef is injected with ammonia, a chemical commonly used in glass cleaning and window cleaning products.

This is all fine with the USDA, which endorses the procedure as a way to make the hamburger beef "safe" enough to eat. Ammonia kills e.coli, you see, and the USDA doesn't seem to be concerned with the fact that people are eating ammonia in their hamburgers.

This ammonia-injected beef comes from a company called Beef Products, Inc. As NYT reports, the federal school lunch program used a whopping 5.5 million pounds of ammonia-injected beef trimmings from this company in 2008. This company reportedly developed the idea of using ammonia to sterilize beef before selling it for human consumption.

Aside from the fact that there's ammonia in the hamburger meat, there's another problem with this company's products: The ammonia doesn't always kill the pathogens. Both e.coli and salmonella have been found contaminating the cow-derived products sold by this company.

This came as a shock to the USDA, which had actually exempted the company's products from pathogen testing and product recalls. Why was it exempted? Because the ammonia injection process was deemed so effective that the meat products were thought to be safe beyond any question.

What else is in there?

As the NYT reports, "The company says its processed beef, a mashlike substance frozen into blocks or chips, is used in a majority of the hamburger sold nationwide. But it has remained little known outside industry and government circles. Federal officials agreed to the company's request that the ammonia be classified as a 'processing agent' and not an ingredient that would be listed on labels."

Fascinating. So you can inject a beef product with a chemical found in glass cleaning products and simply call it a "processing agent" -- with the full permission and approval of the USDA, no less! Does anyone doubt any longer how deeply embedded the USDA is with the beef industry?

Apparently, this practice of injecting fast food beef with ammonia has been a well-kept secret for years. I never knew this was going on, and this news appears to be new information to virtually everyone. The real shocker is that "a majority" of fast food restaurants use this ammonia-injected cow-derived product in their hamburger meat. It sort of makes you wonder: What else is in there that we don't know about?

"School lunch officials and other customers complained about the taste and smell of the beef," says the NYT. No wonder. It's been pumped full of chemicals.

There are already a thousand reasons not to eat fast food. Make this reason number 1,001. Ammonia. It's not supposed to be there.

You can get the same effect by opening a can of dog food made with beef byproducts, spraying it with ammonia, and swallowing it. That is essentially what you're eating when you order a fast food burger.

Use Homeopathic Organic Remedies to Cure Disease and Improve Your Health

(www.Borganic.org) Homeopathy is a form of medicine that treats the whole person, not just a specific symptom. It is based on the theory that "like cures like" which means treatments are similar to the illness it is designed to cure. While the roots of homeopathy go back as far as the 5th century BC and the Greek physician Hippocrates, modern homeopathy dates back around 200 years to physician, chemist, and author Samuel Hahnemann.

Hippocrates is known as the father of modern medicine and was the first person to propose treating disease by using a remedy that will produce similar symptoms to what you are trying to cure. In the late 1700's and early 1800's, Samuel Hahnemann developed a system of medicine that teaches that a substance and a disease, which cause similar symptoms, can cancel each other out. He called his system of medicine Homeopathy based on the Greek words homios and pathos that mean like and suffering.

Many of the sources of homeopathic remedies are themselves poisonous like bee stings or rattlesnake venom. The key to making them useful as a homeopathic remedy is dilution. Remedies are diluted to the point that very little of the original ingredient is present in order to be safe and effective.

Homeopathy believes that each person has an energy or vital force. This vital force can be weakened by lack of exercise, poor dietary habits, pollutants in the environment, and even hereditary problems. Remedies are designed to let the body heal itself by stimulating a person's vital force.

Homeopathy sees symptoms as a positive sign that the body is fighting a disease. Treatments do not seek to stop the symptoms; instead, they are designed to support the healing process. In some cases, the symptoms may get worse before getting better.

There are three principles that are used when prescribing homeopathic remedies. The principle of similars states a substance in large doses that causes symptoms similar to the disease being treated will negate or cure the disease when taken in minute doses. The minimal dose principal states that multiple dilutions allow a substance that causes similar symptoms to the disease being treated to be effective without having any side effects itself. The concept of prescribing for the individual means the whole person is treated not just a specific symptom so different remedies will be prescribed for different people that may have similar symptoms.

When you consult with a homeopath, the first visit will last much longer than a typical doctor's visit. The homeopath will ask many questions to determine your overall health and how best to treat your symptoms. After a remedy is prescribed, follow up visits will be required to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

Homeopathic treatment facilities are becoming more common around the world so you should be able to find one close to where you live. The homeopathic remedies they prescribe can be highly effective at treating conditions that traditional medicine has been unable to cure.

Mistletoe Cures Cancer of Woman in England

(www.Borganic.org) It was the season to be jolly for 53 year old Joan van Holsteijn of England. Her 2009 Christmas gift was the final cure of her cancer by Mistletoe! Actually, she was treated with an extract of mistletoe, a natural medicine first developed in 1922 for cancer by Rudolf Steiner in Europe. It is rarely used by itself today. Instead, it`s sometimes used as an adjunct to the more toxic forms of cancer treatments, especially chemotherapy.

When the painful large lump on her leg was diagnosed as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in a British clinic, Joan was advised to receive chemotherapy. She confided, "I was very scared. I was scared of the cancer, and scared of chemo because you can become so ill from it." Her specialist told her that the mistletoe extract could be administered after chemotherapy sessions.

But Joan opted for the mistletoe extract as the first and only treatment. "It [chemotherapy] runs down your immune system to the point where you don`t feel well. Even if you get better from the cancer you still have to deal with the treatments," she added.

About Mistletoe for Cancer

According to Wikipedia, Suzanne Somers, author of Knockout, also chose a mistletoe extract instead of chemotherapy for her breast cancer tumors. Surgery and radiation had not succeeded with ridding Suzanne of cancer, and her doctor's orders were for her to undergo chemotherapy. And just like Joan of England, Suzanne of Hollywood shunned chemotherapy to have mistletoe extract cure her.

As The Cancer Cure Website explains: "Mistletoe extracts are marketed under several trade names ..., most of which are available in Europe. ... these extracts must be prescribed by a physician. However, most doctors in the US do not use it ... [though] it is allowed by compassionate use. Physicians ... can order [mistletoe extracts] directly from European manufacturers."

Mistletoe extracts are usually injected, but they can also be taken orally if appropriate. It`s important to realize the extract is used because the leaves and berries of mistletoe are poisonous. The extract contains several cytotoxins (cell toxins) which induce tumor necrosis (tissue death) in the cancer cells while programming apoptosis (cancer cell suicide).

Mistletoe extracts stimulate the immune system and increase natural killer cell activity. Chemotherapy dampens the immune system while killing healthy cells along with the cancer cells. Ironically, mistletoe extracts are sometimes used with chemotherapy to protect the DNA of healthy cells.

Negative side effects are very rare, and when they do occur they are usually minor allergic reactions. However, people with heart problems or who are on MAO inhibitor antidepressants are at risk for serious reactions with mistletoe extracts.

Most fruit juice is about as healthy as soda

(www.borganic.org) When it comes to healthy beverage options, most people would probably agree that fruit juice is a better choice than soda or coffee. After all, juice comes from fruit so it must be healthy, right? Many experts are now in agreement that because of over-processing and pasteurization, most fruit juice contains only a hint of the nutrients it originally had and is not much healthier than a can of soda pop.

Research has shown that a glass of fruit juice typically contains more calories than a glass of soda. Most fruit juices are also very high in fructose, a simple sugar commonly associated with obesity due to its quick conversion to fat. Even though the fructose in fruit juice is natural compared to the toxic high fructose corn syrup most often used to sweeten soda, natural fructose still goes straight to the liver where it quickly metabolizes.

A piece of whole fruit is rich in fiber, antioxidants, and other vital nutrients that work in conjunction with one another to nourish the body. Most fruit juice has been stripped of all these things during processing, rendering a juice that is high in sugar but low in nutrients. A glass of commercial apple juice, for instance, has six apples' worth of fructose and none of the fiber and pulp that helps to properly assimilate that sugar into the body. The result is an overload of sugar that floods the liver, increasing the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Some juices, like grape juice, still contain reasonable levels of antioxidants and polyphenols, making them a much better option than soda in terms of naturally-occurring nutrients. However, nutrient levels greatly diminish between the time the fruit was harvested and when it goes into someone's refrigerator in the form of juice. Since many juices are reconstituted from concentrate, their vitamin and mineral content is even further degraded.

Freshly-squeezed juices are preferable to store-bought juice concentrates since they have their full nutrient content and contain some of the pulp and other substances that are typically strained from commercial juices. Fresh juices are also rich in living enzymes that aid in digestive health and help to cultivate a strong immune system. A rich, living food, fresh juice is an excellent way to maintain good health.

Juicing fruits and vegetables together is also a great way to reduce excessive sugar intake from fruit juice alone while obtaining a more diverse range of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and enzymes.
