Use Organic Herbal Remedies for Headaches

It is estimated that 50 million people seek medical attention for headaches every year in the US alone and over $500,000,000 is spent annually on headache medicine. There are many herbal remedies for headaches that can help you without taking chemical based medicines.

The two most common types of headache are tension headaches which are caused by muscular tension and headaches caused by a constriction of blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. A few of the common causes are stress, poor posture, caffeine, eye strain, low blood sugar, allergies, sinusitis, and tiredness. There are also more severe problems that can cause headaches, but they are far less common. It is estimated that 90% of all headaches are tension headaches.

There are headache remedies from virtually every school of medicine including Chinese Herbalism, Ayurveda and Aromatherapy. Each remedy seeks to help you get rid of the pain using natural ingredients. Many of the remedies below have multiple uses and most are used in more than one school of alternative medicine.

Traditional Chinese Herbalism recommends using ginger for headaches. You can eat a small piece of fresh ginger or make a ginger tea. You can find ginger in most health food stores.

Ayurveda (the traditional system of medicine in India) offers a couple common remedies for headaches. The first is to soak a cloth in warm mustard oil and apply directly to your forehead to relieve the pain. The second remedy is to put coriander seeds in boiling water and inhale the steam created by this mixture. This is often used to relieve sinus related headaches.

If you want to try an aromatic remedy, there are several headache cures from the Aromatherapy school of medicine. For tension headaches, lavender is used to relax away your pain. You can message lavender oil directly into your temples or place a drop or two at the base of your nose. You may also want to try inhaling peppermint oil steam similar to the coriander seed remedy talked about above or take a bath with relaxing scents like chamomile. The idea is to soothe away your pain with pleasant smells.

There are many more herbal remedies for headaches. Herbal teas like peppermint, chamomile, rose hip, and more can soothe away a tension headache. Another common herbal remedy for tension headaches is valerian root. You can take capsule supplements or drink valerian root tea, but beware that it may make you drowsy.

These are just a few of the herbal remedies for headaches you can try. In general, these are so much better for you than popping pills and in most cases much more pleasant. Who wouldn`t want a soothing bath or warm cup of tea?

UN Plans To Mint Own Coins

(www.borganic.org) The announcement by the United Nations this week that it will license the minting of silver and gold bullion coins bearing the UN logo may be the button that launches metal prices into orbit.

In its wide-ranging report this fall, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) stated that the system of currencies and international banking practices within today’s economies were inadequate, and responsible for the present economic crisis. The report advocates that the present monetary system, wherein the dollar acts as the global reserve currency be re-examined “with urgency”.

The
UNCTAD Report was the first time a major multinational institution had forwarded such a suggestion or measure, although a number of countries, including Russia and Brazil have supported replacing the dollar as the world's reserve currency. China's central bank chief Zhou Xiaochuan has mentioned that the dollar could become a basket of currencies instead.

The UN commission dismissed such a widening, saying a multiple-country system "may be equally unstable, and not transparent."

The panel is seeking more monetary balance for developing countries, and a means for them to retain their reserves and domestic savings independent of foreign agencies and arrangements.

Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel economics laureate, has made plain that there was "a growing consensus that there are problems with the dollar reserve system. Developing countries are lending the United States trillions dollars at almost zero interest rates when they have huge needs themselves," Stiglitz stated.

"It's indicative of the nature of the problem. It's a net transfer, in a sense, to the United States, a form of foreign aid."

A report contributor, Detlef Koffe, concluded that "Replacing the dollar with a bullion currency would solve some of the problems related to the potential of countries running large deficits and would help stability,"

US Fed spokesperson Patrick Paulsen acknowledged that there could be some strong reaction in the US to the global currency, and that it would “…be viewed as a step toward a New World Order. But those same people have probably lost patience with the money-changers as well.”

He clarified that he would “…nonetheless anticipate that the western currencies will continue to depreciate, given Asia’s ascendancy in trade and manufacturing, to find their own value and enable their economies to compete. This is a UN perogrative we cannot and should not control, it’s returning to what we had with Bretton-Woods.”

The UN decided to provide a “public option” savings currency, whereby currency mints will be licensed to mint two kinds of bullion coins the size of the 1€ coin - the Uno (silver ~$5) and the Oro (gold, ~$500). The names were adopted from the book
“The Humanist”, which foresees the UN being better funded by 2015 via its licensing fees, expected to be 10-15%.

The coins have a marker chemical in them that enables their authentication and processing by modified retail ATM and exchange machines in Europe, which will be distributed globally. Any licensee, public or private, can produce such bullion coinage under contract. The United Nations is doing no more than what most countries do already, except that the value of its coins will reflect their bullion weight.

Armand Dufour of the European Bank welcomes their introduction. “People have enough Fiat currency options, government and banks cannot intrude on bullion coins – they will have their own inviolable value.”

He does have one concern, however. “If we see a dismounting from the US dollar, as is inevitable in the main view, there will be a strong move to the Oro, which may drive its price up to the point where governments will not allow its circulation; they will try to isolate it.”

“That’s when the fun begins.” he said.

Autism has Reached Crisis Proportions

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recently released that today 1 in 110 children are autistic. More alarming is the fact that on December 18, 2009, it reported that autism increased by 57% in the last four years.

Most experts attribute the cause of autism to be unknown, defining it as a combination of genetic and environmental factors. However, there has been much controversy as to what, indeed, is responsible for our children not being able to communicate, form relationships, and/or respond to their surroundings.

The most popular of these controversies is vaccines, pointing directly to the Mumps-Measles-Rubella vaccine and the mercury based preservative, thimerosal. Other theories include:

Experts explain the reason for this dramatic increase with the fact that they are more able to easily diagnose this disorder. The statistics have grown from 1 in 5,000 children 20 years ago to 1 in 100 today. This points the finger to environmental factors such as vaccines and environmental toxins to the very foods we eat.

The conventional approach to autism says there is no cure, at times addressing the behavioral aspects of the condition with such drugs such as Ritalin, Prozac, and Risperdal. Toxic Burden: Women Put 515 Chemicals on Their Faces Every Day

(www.Borganic.org) A study published by Bionsen, a company in the United Kingdom that sells aluminum-free body products, found that the average woman applies 515 chemicals to her face a day. Makeup, perfumes, lotions, mascara, and other beauty products all contribute to the toxic brew that is causing health problems for many women.

The study revealed that the typical woman uses about 13 different beauty products a day. Most of these products contain at least 20 ingredients and additives, many of which can have a detrimental effect on the body and skin. Perfumes alone were found to contain up to 400 different ingredients.

Other products that were tested include lipstick, body lotions and mascara which contained an average of 30 ingredients each. Aside from aluminum, many of these products contain other harmful ingredients like synthetic dyes, fragrances, and parabens. When applied continually, the many beauty products that women use are exposing them to wide range of carcinogens.

The perpetual advent of new and innovative beauty products has led to a massive increase in product usage over the years. What was once a basic cleansing protocol has turned into a lifestyle of trying the latest and greatest products in an effort to maintain youthful beauty. As a result, women are exposed to more toxic carcinogens from beauty products than ever.

An Environmental Working Group (EWG) study from 2006 found that less than one percent of all cosmetic products are made from ingredients that have all undergone safety assessments. The great majority of products contain known carcinogens, reproductive toxins and various other harmful chemicals that cause serious diseases like cancer.

The EWG study found that the average person uses up to 25 personal care products per day. Among these, about 200 different chemicals will have been added to scent, preserve, synthesize and stabilize them for consumption. Many of these ingredients will end up causing hormonal disruption and immune dysfunction. In younger people, developmental problems are likely to result from excessive product use.

Makeup usage among younger girls has also increased. About 90 percent of 14-year-old girls now use makeup, according to a research study conducted by Mintel Internation Group in 2004. Sixty-three percent of girls as young as seven are now using lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow and mascara.

As consumers are becoming more aware of many beauty product ingredients and the harm they are causing, product manufacturers are beginning to remove many of them from their formulations. Those concerned would do best to purchase only products that have minimal or no toxic ingredients. Greatly reducing one's cosmetic arsenal is the next best option.

Organic Milk Linked to Lower Rates of Allergies, Asthma and Eczema

(www.Borganic.org) Young children who consume exclusively organic dairy products are significantly less likely to develop allergies, asthma or eczema by the age of two, according to a study conducted by researchers from the Louis Bolk Institute in the Netherlands and published in the British Journal of Nutrition.

"This is the first example of a definite health impact of organic food consumption being published in a peer-reviewed journal," said Carlo Leifert of Newcastle University, who is leading a study into the connection between organic food consumption and health.

Researchers followed 2,500 pregnant women until their children were two years old, recording information on their health and their lifestyle and dietary habits. They found that the rate of allergies was 36 percent lower among children who drank or ate organic milk, cheese and yogurt and whose mothers had consumed these products while breastfeeding than among children and mothers who had eaten either only non-organic dairy products or a mix of organic and non-organic products.

"There was a clear relationship between organic dairy use and less eczema," said researcher Machteld Huber. "The difference was significant but only for children exclusively eating organic dairy products."

"We didn't find a relationship if they had [both] organic and conventional dairy products."

Researchers do not know whether the increased allergy risk from non-organic dairy is caused by extra toxic ingredients, such as antibiotics, by lower levels of key nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, by some combination of the two, or by some other factor.

"Organic milk doesn't contain any pesticides, added hormones or antibiotics," said Stuart Martin of the Scottish Organic Milk Producers Association. "When an organic cow becomes sick our farmers are encouraged to treat it homeopathically first and only use antibiotics as a last resort. Meanwhile, the milk from that cow is removed from the milk stream and is not used at all."

WHO TO LIMIT OUR VITAMINS BY LAW UNDER CODEX ALIMENTARIUS

A set of binding food standards called the Codex Alimentarius, and created by WHO and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is set to be become law on Thursday, December 31st, applying to 183 member countries.

Vitmains and minerals in foods are to be drastically reducted and limited explicity to the small amounts allowed by the Codex regulations.

The amounts allowed are considered by some experts ot be so small that it will result in mass malnourishment. This will weaken immune systems and make people more vulnerable to toxins in vaccines and other drugs.

Furthermore, every cow will have to fed bovine hormones.

The Nazis experimented on concentration camp inmates to find out how to use food as a weapon of war and of starvation.

WHO and the UN appear to be using the same Nazi German tactics as part of their global depopulation plan.

1) Started in 1962 by UN, Imposed by WTO Sanctions

Codex Alimentarius was created in 1962 as a trade Commission by the UN to control the international trade of food. Its initial intentions may have been altruistic but it has been taken over by corporate interests, most notably the pharmaceutical, pesticide, biotechnology and chemical industries.

Codex Alimentarius is backed up by the crippling trade sanctions of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Any non Codex-compliant nation would face huge economic punishment since they would automatically lose in any food-trade dispute with a Codex compliant country.

2) “Nutrients are Toxins” Is Junk Science

Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has two committees which impact nutrition.

One of them, the “Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses” (CCNFSDU), is chaired by Dr. Rolf Grossklaus, a physician who believes that nutrition has no role in health. This is the “top-guy” for Codex nutritional policy, and he has stated that “nutrition is not relevant to health”.

As unbelievable as it may sound, Dr. Grossklaus actually declared nutrients to be toxins in 1994 and instituted the use of toxicology (Risk Assessment) to prevent nutrients from having any impact on humans who take supplements! It is worth mentioning that Dr. Grossklaus happens to own the Risk Assessment company advising CCNFSDU and Codex on this issue. This company makes money when its toxicology services are used for the “assessment” of nutrients. Here in the U.S. we call that a “conflict of interest”.

Codex is made up of thousands of standards and guidelines. One of them, the Vitamin and Mineral Guideline (VMG), is designed to permit only ultra low doses of vitamins and minerals (and make clinically effective nutrients illegal). How can the VMG restrict dosages of vitamins and minerals? By using Risk Assessment (toxicology) to assess nutrients.

While Risk Assessment is a legitimate science (it is a branch of toxicology), it is the wrong science for assessing nutrients! In fact, in this context, it is actually junk science. Biochemistry, the science of life processes, is the correct science for assessing nutrients. Codex Alimentarius treats nutrients as toxins, which is literally insane.

Nutrients are not toxins – they are essential for life.

No matter what Codex Alimentarius officials say to convince you that Risk Assessment is a “science-based” approach to nutrients, it is not.

And it is worth repeating that Dr. Grossklaus, the head of Codex Alimentarius, owns the Risk Assessment company advising CCNFSDU and Codex on the “benefit” of using Risk Assessment to assess nutrients.

3) Not Consumer Protection – That’s Propaganda

Contrary to the propaganda, Codex Alimentarius has nothing to do with consumer protection. Nothing! Codex is about the economic ambitions of multi-national corporations, in particular, the pharmaceutical industry.

Using their multi billion-dollar marketing budgets, these industries have launched a massive media propaganda campaign to paint Codex Alimentarius as a benevolent tool of “consumer protection”, as well as to negatively taint the image of natural health options and mislead people to fear them as “dangerous”, so they will take drugs (which really are dangerous). Natural health products and options have an amazing safety record and are remarkably effective, especially when compared to pharmaceutical drugs.

Unfortunately, one-time defenders of health freedom such as National Nutritional Foods Association (NNFA) and Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) have joined the propaganda bandwagon and are spreading false information saying that Codex Alimentarius is either “harmless” or benevolent “consumer protection”. Neither is true.

The membership of these one-time defenders of health freedom has become permeated by people from the pharmaceutical industry (for example, CRN counts as its members corporations such as Monsanto® and Bayer®).

4) Codex: Serious Threat to Health and Health Freedom

If Codex Alimentarius is implemented in the United States of America, therapeutic dosages of vitamins and minerals (and all other nutrients soon to follow) will become unavailable because they will literally become illegal.

Here’s how it would work, in a nut-shell:

Due to the junk science use of Risk Assessment (toxicology) to assess supposedly toxic nutrients, a false belief is being engineered saying that “nutritional supplements are dangerous to people’s health”.

Using this false belief generates calls to “protect” people from these “toxic” nutrients. After the calls come the bills to set ultra low permissible dosages (remember, nutrients are deemed “dangerous toxins” under this false belief). If enough of us and our Congressional delegates buy this nonsense, we and Congress would blindly comply with Codex Alimentarius’ VMG. And blind compliance is what the industries behind Codex Alimentarius intend.

Blind compliance goes hand-in-hand with lack of activism. This lack of activism allows our protective laws, classifying nutrients as foods with no upper limits (such as DSHEA), to be easily repealed and replaced with draconian laws to classify nutrients as toxins. And “harmonization” with the pro-illness, pro-pharmaceutical industry Vitamin and Mineral Guideline is there to fill the void.

Only intentionally ineffective, ultra low dose supplements would be legal, with or without a prescription, on the VMG list. If enough people do not take action, we can expect to watch nutritional supplement manufacturers and, thus health food stores, to go out of business, in a domino effect. The only player left standing would be Big Pharma.

Therapeutic grade vitamins, minerals, and amino acids would be eliminated from the marketplace (although a few low-dose supplements would be allowed by Codex, as a symbolic measure to avoid suspicion about their ulterior motive).

Natural health professionals would lose the tools of their trade (nutritional supplements) and health conscious people would be unable to choose natural health options for health promotion and disease treatment.

And that is, in a nutshell, how Codex Alimentarius is poised to make Natural and Nutritional Medicine (NNM) disappear from the legal health world and go underground. Who benefits? Big Pharma.

It would take a few years for the above scenarios to be feasible (Codex Alimentarius is meant to go into full global effect by 2010). The slower the process takes, the less alarmed people will be. That’s probably the logic of the architects of Codex Alimentarius.

5) Serves Economic Interests of Sickness Industries Through WTO and Napoleonic Code

More and more people are turning to natural health products globally. The “wellness” trend is a major trend in today’s society. The more natural health products people use, the fewer drugs they buy. The pharmaceutical industry, which is part of the “Sickness Industry”, fears the inevitable shift toward natural health care.

Instead of accepting the will of the people and rethinking the future of the pharmaceutical industry, the industry has decided upon an unethical course of action: the use of deception and deceit to eliminate natural health products completely.

Codex Alimentarius is a shrewd vehicle for protecting the pharmaceutical industry from the loss of income it stands to suffer due to the inevitable growth of natural healthcare.

Codex Alimentarius is the resistance of the dinosaurs to inevitability: the burgeoning desire of humanity for a healthier, saner, and more sustainable way of life.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) intends to force Codex Alimentarius upon the nations of the world, including the U.S. This would be done under the threat of massive economic sanctions if WTO-countries do not comply with Codex Alimentarius.

Furthermore, Codex is based in the Napoleonic Code, not Common Law. That means that under Codex Alimentarius, anything not explicitly permitted is forbidden. Under Common Law, we hold that anything not explicitly forbidden is permitted. The difference is the difference between health freedom and health tyranny. Codex Alimentarius would be able to ban supplements by default.

6) DSHEA Protects America From Codex Alimentarius

The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA, 1994), an American law classifying our supplements and herbs as foods (which can have no upper limit set on their use), was passed by unanimous Congressional consent following massive grass-roots support organized by health food stores. Millions of American activists told Congress, in no uncertain terms:

“Protect nutritional supplements as foods or we will remove you from office”.

Congress listened and carried out the will of the people.

DSHEA appropriately classifies nutritional supplements as foods which can have no upper limits set on their use. DSHEA recognizes that people use nutrients safely to deal with their individually differing needs for nutrients. The concept of biochemical individuality means that people have different needs for nutrients at different times. Are nutrients toxins? No, they are not toxins. They are substances essential to prevent, treat and cure any chronic condition, in differing doses at different times in different people.

DSHEA protects the US from Codex Alimentarius’ deadly Vitamin and Mineral Guideline. We must reach our Congressional members, educate them about the facts on Codex Alimentarius and direct them to vote against anything that would threaten DSHEA.

Congress holds the keys to our health freedom. And it is their job to listen to us. Let’s not allow cynicism to tell us otherwise. We did it for DSHEA in 1994. We can do it again this year.

Conclusion

The objective of the pro-Codex Alimentarius multi nationals is to “boil the frog slowly” so that we do not wake up to it in time to avoid Codex.

Once we have “HARMonize” to Codex Alimentarius, as long as we are in the WTO, we cannot amend or change what we’ve been “HARMonize” to.

Codex Alimentarius will go into global implementation by December 31, 2009, unless We, the People, avert it. We must act now because right now, with $758 Million spent on declared Congressional lobbying by Big Pharma last year, there are members of Congress who are trying to overturn DSHEA and allow Pharma-friendly free reign for Codex. If protective laws like DSHEA are destroyed, the sanctioning power of the autocratic WTO kicks in, and it will be impossible to get out from under Codex Alimentarius. We can protect our access to high potency nutrients and stave off an adulterated food supply only by putting pressure on Congress.

Lobster Wars! As Seafood Stocks Decline, Tensions Flare Among Fishermen

(www.Borganic.org) A sharp drop in lobster prices has pushed tensions among Maine fishermen to the breaking point, leading to the first recorded shooting from a fishing ground dispute.

Eighty percent of U.S.-fished lobster, almost 70 million pounds, is caught in the waters off the coast of Maine by a mere 6,000 fishermen. Because a successful fisherman can make as much as $100,000 in profit each year, competition for prime fishing territories is fierce. Traditionally, Maine lobster fishing grounds are regulated by an informal system under which individual fishermen stake out a claim to various specific locations. Though these boundaries are usually respected, there is a long tradition of incursion and defense of these grounds.

The recent drop in lobster prices from roughly $4 per pound to approximately $3 per pound has caused an upswing in these incidents. Fishermen have cut the fishing lines of rivals fishing in "their" waters, forcing them to replace the traps at a cost of $70 to $100 each. Boats have had their engines disabled and herring dumped in their gasoline tanks, while others have been rammed or sunk. Two years ago, two fishermen were arrested for an altercation in which one fisherman steered his boat across another boat's wake at high speed. The captain of the second boat responded by firing his shotgun across the first boat's bow.

On Manticus Island this summer, 41-year-old lobsterman Chris Young was shot in the neck by another lobsterman, Vance Bunker. Bunker's son-in-law, Alan Miller, is a fisherman from Wheelers Bay who had begun fishing off Manticus Island when he married a local woman. But the island's fisherman voted to ban him from fishing in its waters, branding him an outsider. Bunker's support of his son-in-law had embroiled him in heated arguments with other fishermen, and he reported receiving threats in the days leading up to the shooting.

In another recent incident, someone released raccoons onto Manticus Island, presumably in retaliation from being barred from fishing there.

Fishermen on Manticus Island have appealed to the state to ban outsiders from fishing its waters, and use the Marine Patrol to enforce the law.

The Cause Behind the Great Potato Famine (And Why it's Coming Back)

(www.Borganic.org) Researchers have sequenced the genome of the fungus responsible for the Great Irish Potato Famine in the 1800s, uncovering the reason that the organism continues to plague potato farmers to this day.

"This pathogen has an exquisite ability to adapt and change, and that's what makes it so dangerous," said lead researcher Chad Nusbaum of the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Mass.

The organism, known as Phytophthora infestans, is a type of water mold that continues to cost potato farmers billions of dollars every year. It prefers cool, wet climates and is capable of destroying entire fields of potatoes and tomatoes within only a few days. In 2003, P. infestans destroyed Papua New Guinea's entire potato crop.

The mold evolves resistance to antifungal sprays with astonishing speed. In just the last few years, potato farmers in the United Kingdom have increased chemical spraying by 30 percent in an attempt to hold the organism at bay, and the ongoing blight in Ireland has been called "the worst in living memory," according to the BBC.

According to information published in the journal Nature, P. infestans' genome is especially large, at least twice as long as the genetic code of its closest relatives. Some regions of the genome are particularly dense, containing many genes in a small area, while others are much less dense. It is these gene-light areas that may hold the key to the organism's adaptability: more than 700 key genes were mapped in these regions, some of them coding for attacks on potatoes' immune systems.

"The regions change rapidly over time, acting as a kind of incubator to enable the rapid birth and death of genes that are key to plant infection," said co-lead author Brian Haas. "As a result, these critical genes may be gained and lost so rapidly that the hosts simply can't keep up."

Modern agriculture has exacerbated the problem, said Paul Birch of the Scottish Crop Research Institute. Widespread application of chemicals encourages pest evolution, while genetic standardization of food crops makes them more vulnerable to infestation.

Toothpaste Ingredients Your Dentist Will Not Warn You About

This is why certain drugs such as heart medication nitroglycerin and some pain relief drugs are administered under the tongue. Because of this, you should be aware that potentially toxic ingredients in your toothpaste and mouthwash could also be absorbed into your body.

Unfortunately, your dentist may think he or she knows what to recommend for you, but chances are that is not the case.

The following is a list of some potentially toxic ingredients in dental and other personal care products and of the reasons for concern that your dentist probably does not realize:

1.Fluoride - FDA warning on toothpaste/mouthwash containing fluoride reads: "WARNING, keep out of reach of children under the age of 6. If more than used for normal brushing is swallowed, contact your physician or local Poison Control Center immediately."

Children`s toothpaste often has flavors that taste like candy or bubblegum which may tempt children to swallow it. This can be a problem since the warning states that even small amounts of fluoride swallowed can cause serious health risks.

Toxic dosage of toothpaste with fluoride can cause death. For example, death could result if a 2 year old swallows 42 percent of a tube of fluoride toothpaste, a 4 year old swallows 56 percent of a tube of fluoride toothpaste or a 6 year old swallows 70 percent of the contents of a fluoride toothpaste tube.

2.Triclosan - This antibiotic/antimicrobial agent is used in many products including dishwashing soap, hand soap, deodorants, toothpaste and mouthwash. In August 2009 the Canadian Medical Association requested Canada Health to ban triclosan use in personal care products due to development of bacterial resistance. In 2006 and 2009, studies demonstrated triclosan exposure significantly impacts thyroid hormone concentrations. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports frequent use of antibiotics could lead to growth of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. We all know of the rise in `superbugs` that are resistant to most antibiotics and have resulted in deaths.

3.Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - Using toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) may reduce the frequency of canker sores (aphthous ulcers). Researchers speculate that SLS dries out the protective mucous lining in the mouth...making it vulnerable to irritants that lead to canker sores. SLS is a detergent that is in almost all toothpastes, dishwashing soaps and body washes.

4.Abrasives - Tooth sensitivity is caused by many factors. A term used for certain types of tooth sensitivity is known as `abfractions` and may be caused by abrasive toothpaste. Some toothpaste including teeth whitening pastes and tartar control brands may contain stronger abrasives. A test available, but not used by most brands is called the RDA rating. This determines the abrasiveness of toothpaste to dentin, the middle layer of teeth. Unless the RDA (Relative Dentin Abrasivity) of a brand is known, the consumer or dentist may not know if tooth abrasion was caused on some level by the toothpaste used.

5.Artificial sweeteners - The FDA has vacillated over the years about the safety of artificial sweeteners such as saccharin. Canada Health has still not approved saccharin as safe.

6.Botanical ingredients - Drugs come from plants, and many herbs including the popular tea tree oil have side effects and drug interactions. How to Avoid Foods Made with GMOs

You can thank the Fraud and Drug Administration for that as they care more for Monsanto than they do for the people in this country. Bear in mind, the only benefit of GMOs is to be unaffected by enormous quantities of Monsanto`s pesticide, RoundUp. Now there is an easy way to avoid eating GMOs despite the efforts of Monsanto to thrust it upon you any way, any time, and any where they can.

Before understanding the way to avoid, you must fully understand the severe ramifications of ingesting this laboratory created, if you will pardon the expression, "food". Genetic Engineering or Genetic Modification of food involves the laboratory process of artificially inserting genes into the DNA of food crops or animals. The result is called a genetically modified organism or GMO. GMOs can be engineered with genes from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals or even humans.

Certified organic products are not allowed to contain any GMOs. Therefore, when you purchase products labeled "100% organic", "organic" or "made with organic ingredients", all ingredients in these products are not allowed to be produced from GMOs. For example, products labeled as "made with organic ingredients" only require 70% of the ingredients to be organic, but 100% must be non-GMO.

Companies may voluntarily label products as "non-GMO". Some labels state "non-GMO" while others spell out "Made Without Genetically Modified Ingredients". Some products limit their claim to only one particular "At-Risk" ingredient such as soy lecithin, listing it as "non-GMO".

Avoid products made with any of the crops that are GM. Most GM ingredients are products made from the "Big Four": corn, soybeans, canola, and cottonseed. These are commonly found in processed foods. Some of the most common GM Big Four ingredients in processed foods are:

CORN
Corn flour, meal, oil, starch, gluten, and syrup.
Sweeteners such as fructose, dextrose, and glucose.
Modified food starch.

SOY
Soy flour, lecithin, protein isolate, and isofalvone.
Vegetable oil and vegetable protein (these may come from other sources but it`s better to safe than sorry).

CANOLA
Canola oil (also called rapeseed oil).

COTTON
Cottonseed oil.

In addition, GM sugar beet sugar recently entered the food supply. Look for organic and non-GMO sweeteners, candy and chocolate products made with 100% cane sugar, evaporated cane juice or organic sugar, to avoid GM beet sugar.

SUGAR
Avoid anything not listed as 100% cane sugar.

Use Essential Oils to Add Natural Holiday Fragrance to Your Home, Part I

These highly aromatic plant extracts are a healthier, more beneficial alternative to commercial fragrances, and you may already have the tools you need to disperse them in your home. However, there are certain precautions you should take when choosing and handling your essential oils.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are physically extracted and distilled from natural plant materials, such as the rind, leaves, and flowers. They are very concentrated and chemically complex, made up of dozens of known components -- and even more unknown components. Many of these have therapeutic, antiseptic, and fragrant properties.

They are very powerful, and nearly all must be diluted before being used internally or externally. According to "Aromatherapy: a Complete Guide to the Healing Art" by Kathi Keville and Mindy Green, a 2% dilution is typical and safe when using most essential oils. That translates into about 10 drops per ounce.

The Purity of Natural Essential Oils

It is impossible for the average consumer to determine if an essential oil is pure and unadulterated with synthetic fragrance oils, cheaper essential oils, or other chemicals. Tests do exist to analyze essential oils; however, according to the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA), even these may not be accurate. The NAHA recommends buying only from trusted suppliers.

How to Diffuse Essential Oils

One of the easiest ways to diffuse a holiday essential oil is to place several drops in a small saucepan of boiling water. If you live in the cold, this has the added benefit of warming and humidifying the air. You may want to use an old pot that you do not use for cooking in case any residual oil remains on the implement afterward.

Metal and clay lightbulb rings can be filled with a small amount of oil and fit on most incandescent bulbs. These release the oil`s scent as they are warmed by the bulb. They are a safe, energy-saving method of scenting a room because they harness wasted heat; however, they do not work with energy saving bulbs.

You may also mix several drops of essential oil into a clean spritzer bottle of fresh water. Buy an empty bottle from the supermarket or hardware store. (Because traces of chemicals may remain, never reuse a spritzer bottle from a commercial cleaner or other household product.) Shake this mixture and spray around your home.

Small diffusers that use a tealight to heat a dish of oil are sold in many metaphysical stores. However, smoke from candles may contribute to indoor pollution. If you prefer this method, use lead-free candles made of soy wax or other natural wax, not paraffin.

Warnings

Essential oils are highly concentrated and many are irritating to the skin and other tissues. Some are extremely toxic when taken internally, so do not ingest them. Keep out of reach of children.

How to Treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome Naturally

This candle metaphor describes these three treasures. The wax body of the candle is Jing, which is the body's physiological energy foundation or reservoir. The flame is Qi or Chi, the body's daily functioning energy. Shen is the light from the candle's flame depicting one's spiritual and emotional tone.

The Reishi or Ganoderma Mushroom

Teas are the most common means of ingesting tonic herbs. After bringing the water and mushrooms to a boil, how long you simmer depends on the cut of mushrooms.

Silver and copper kill disease-causing bacteria

(www.Borganic.org) In 1999, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) handed down a dictate against products known as colloidal silver -- tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid base. Then the FDA sent warning letters to people selling colloidal silver that demanded an end to any claims that the silver products diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. While colloidal silver products have remained on the market, controversy has continued with the mainstream medical establishment attacking any use of colloidal silver while many natural health experts continue to advocate that it has beneficial uses, especially for fighting infections (http://www.naturalnews.com/027192_s...).

The bottom line: following the colloidal silver uproar, many people may now believe silver has no efficacy at all in protecting health. But that assumption is unscientific and downright wrong.

In fact, silver has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries and, in modern times, several prescription drugs contain the precious metal. For example, silver nitrate is used to prevent the eye condition conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva, the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids) in newborn babies and it treats corns and warts, too. Another medication, silver sulfadiazine (sold as Silvadene) contains a micronized form of silver that is applied topically to the body to treat burns. And now researchers have found that when silver is used with copper, the combination may offer protection against the majority of serious hospital-acquired infections.

The germ-killing properties of copper, like those of silver, have been recognized for hundreds of years. Scientists have discovered that copper ions are deadly to bacteria because they penetrate the micro-organisms and disrupt molecular pathways that are important for their survival. In fact, in 2008 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officially registered copper alloys and allowed them to be marketed with the label "kills 99.9% of bacteria within two hours".

Scientist Dana Filoti successfully tested her hypothesis that the combination of silver and copper would work better to kill bacteria than the metals alone. She created zeolite (a porous mineral) ceramic structures to hold the metals. "The hard ceramic structure looks like Swiss cheese and inside the holes there are ions of silver and copper," Filoti explained in a statement to the press. By experimenting with the ratio of copper to silver and the texture of extremely thin films containing the metals, she was able to almost totally wipe out all microbes on the surface.

Filoti, a University of New Hampshire physicist, presented her findings at the recent national meeting of the American Vacuum Society (AVS), an organization that promotes the science and technology of materials, interfaces and processing, held in San Jose, California. Filoti unveiled her copper/silver films and told the group of scientists and engineers that silver and copper do work synergistically to effectively kill bacteria, including the type of pathogens that too often cause difficult-to-treat infections acquired in hospitals.

A practical application of the silver and copper combo's amazing ability to kill germs is on the horizon. Filoti is working with a New Hampshire company to design an antimicrobial face mask that will protect wearers against pathogens known to cause many hospital-acquired infections.
