Dangers from Swine Flu Vaccine

(www.Borganic.org) Concerns about the safety of the H1N1 vaccine continue to grow as the government rushes to bring the vaccine to market. The FDA usually requires rigorous testing of any new drug, but concerns about the H1N1 pandemic has sped the vaccine through the channels without the same clinical testing as other vaccines. Even health care workers are concerned, as they are the first ones to receive the swine flu vaccine and will, in effect, be human guinea pigs.

The New York State Nurses Association is holding a demonstration against the mandatory swine flu vaccination of nurses; it was reported in Newsday. Many face the loss of their jobs if they refuse the vaccination.

Mercury poisoning is one of the concerns about any vaccination, but in recent years the additive, thimerosal, which contains mercury, has been removed from most vaccines. However, the H1N1 flu shot still contains a high level of mercury and this alone is a concern for children, pregnant women, and the elderly -- the very populations who are being encouraged to take the swine flu shot.

Squalene is another additive used in vaccines that is a concern. Squalene was an additive in the vaccine given to Gulf War soldiers and is now known to be one of the causes of Gulf War Syndrome. Even the government, who approved the use of squalene in the vaccines, has admitted that it was one of the causes of the vets' illness.

Side-effects from the H1N1 flu shot are another concern. The vaccine for the Avian flu caused a rare neurological disorder, Guillain-Barre syndrome and death.

One third of health care professionals are refusing to take the H1N1 vaccine, according to polls in both the US and England. Another third is unsure, leaving only one third of the health care professionals supporting the H1N1 vaccine. President Obama has stated that the H1N1 vaccine will be voluntary, but companies and hospitals are acting otherwise, and against the interests of their employees and medical staff.

Both Ireland and Greece have said that they will fine and imprison those who refuse to be vaccinated.

A recent article in Reuters reported that "adverse event reports" are expected by the public health departments after the swine flu vaccine is administered, including one million heart attacks, 700,000 strokes and 900,000 miscarriages.

The FDA is charged with protecting the American people from unsafe drugs. Their intention to speed the swine flu vaccine into production has caused concern about the safety of the new drug. Until these questions are addressed, the health benefits of the swine flu vaccine remain under suspicion.

California study concludes soda consumption undeniably linked to obesity

(www.Borganic.org) Much like Big Tobacco once did with nicotine, the soda industry and high-fructose corn syrup producers of America have maintained a ridiculous state of flat-out denial about the links between soda consumption and obesity. "Sodas don't make you fat," they insist. Meanwhile, as Americans guzzle down insanely large quantities of soda and liquid sugar with each passing year, rates of obesity and diabetes continue to steadily climb. Surely diet must have something to do with it, right?

Thanks to a new California study, soda companies can no longer hide behind the defense of uncertainty when it comes to links between soda consumption and obesity. This massive study questioned the soda consumption habits of 43,000 adults and 4,000 adolescents and concluded this: Drinking one or more sodas a day increases your chances of obesity by 27 percent. A whopping 62% of adults who drink at least one soda each day are overweight or obese.

The study also found that Californians are gulping down sodas at an unprecedented rate: At least one soda is consumed daily by 41 percent of children, 62 percent of adolescents and 24 percent of adults. Through the study, another shocking statistic was revealed: The average California teen consumes 39 pounds of liquid sugar a year solely from soda consumption.

Sadly, the study didn't look at rates of diabetes and bone loss -- the phosphoric acid in sodas causes osteoporosis, even in males -- but there's little doubt that a similar correlation exists between soda consumption and those diseases, too. The whole issue of aspartame and diet sodas also wasn't looked at in this study, but that's yet another important area of investigation that will probably be delayed for many years until the number of people drinking diet soda who get diagnosed with brain cancer can no longer be denied.

We've been warning about this for years

The interesting thing about all this is that the champions of natural health have been warning society about this for years. Whether you're talking about myself and NaturalNews, or Dr. Julian Whitaker, or even going back to Weston Price, we've all been shouting about the dangers of widespread cola consumption long before it appeared on the radar of mainstream consciousness.

Now, in the thick of a disastrous epidemic of obesity and diabetes, more mainstream health authorities are finally starting to put the pieces together and realize just how bad sodas are for public health. There's now no question about it: When soda consumption goes up, so do rates of obesity. And with higher obesity rates, you automatically get greatly increased rates of diabetes, cancer, heart disease, depression and other diseases that are very expensive to treat.

Ultimately, that means that soda consumption greatly increases the health care costs of any nation, because higher soda consumption leads to higher rates of diseases that are expensive to treat. I'm guessing that for every dollar a consumer spends on soda, another dollar's worth of long-term health care cost is created at the same time. Except those costs are paid directly by the consumer; they're paid by the taxpayers and health insurance customers.

That's why reforming health care necessarily requires doing something drastic to reduce soda consumption across first-world nations. You can't have both affordable health care and a nation full of soda guzzlers.

How to reduce soda consumption

Greatly reducing the consumption of sodas is easier than you think. It just takes some political backbone... and a willingness for politicians to stop pussyfooting around with the issue in an effort to please the rich, powerful soft drink corporations.

It's time to start treating soft drink companies as what they truly are: The enemies of public health and financial parasites that drain public coffers through increased health care costs caused by their products. Their ads promise happiness, but their products deliver disease.

The first step to reducing soft drink consumption is to ban all soda advertising. In fact, that might be the only step that's necessary. Simply reveal that sodas are a clear and scientifically-proven hazard to public health, and declare that in order to protect our nation's youth, products that pose a clear and imminent hazard to public health will no longer be allowed to be advertised in any form: Not on television, magazines, sporting events or even through internet advertising. They are still free to have their own websites, of course, where they can describe their products. They just can't advertise on someone else's website.

But what about free speech? Doesn't the U.S. Constitution guarantee free speech for all individuals? Indeed, it does, but in my opinion -- and I know that far better-informed Constitutional lawyers would probably disagree with me on this -- there's nothing in the Constitution that guarantees freedom of speech to corporations. That "right" has been invented through a loose interpretation of what the Constitution really says.

I don't believe that corporations should have the same rights as individuals, because the free speech of one person is all too often completely drowned out by the "free speech" of a multi-billion dollar corporation that can buy virtually unlimited air time on television.

Can't we just tax sodas instead?

Another popular suggestion is to tax the heck out of sodas, thereby making them more expensive in order to discourage consumers from buying them. If you believe in levying new taxes on the poor, this is a great idea, because poor people buy and consume far more soda than wealthy people, making a "soda tax" largely a tax on the poor.

I strongly disagree with the idea of using new taxes to shape consumer behavior. Why? Because the current tangle of government taxes and subsidies is so complex and confusing that it has long since lost any attachment to common sense. For example, there are currently subsidies on sugar and corn. Yet one of the sweeteners used in soft drinks is high-fructose corn syrup, which is derived from corn. If a new soda tax passes, it means our government would simultaneously be in the business of providing subsidies to corn while taxing another product that uses an ingredient derived from corn. The overhead of tracking and collecting all these taxes is an enormous waste of government resources.

It's far better to just deny these soda companies the ability to use the media to influence teens and adults into buying and consuming their products. With no advertising, soda consumption would plummet, and the obesity epidemic would begin to turn around. Health care costs would ease and we'd be on our way to a healthier generation of future adults in America.

The mainstream media: Running on disease

The mainstream media, of course, would have a tissy fit with this idea. A significant portion of their advertising revenues come directly from companies that sell sodas and sugary drinks, putting them in the business of promoting products that directly harm children and teens.

But that's business, and the media doesn't feel any special responsibility to protect people from dangerous products that just happen to be paying their salaries. That's why they'll openly advertise dangerous, deadly pharmaceuticals designed to treat the very diseases caused by other products they advertise, like junk foods and soda.

There's a lot of money to be made from selling harmful products the people, and just like everybody else, the mainstream media wants its piece of the action. If you ban the advertising of harmful foods and beverages, many newspapers, magazines and television shows would collapse in weeks. It is precisely the advertising expenditures of high-margin junk product companies that keep the media afloat. Never forget that... especially when you're reading an article about sodas in the mainstream media.

Choose one: Children or corporations

At some point, America has to make a decision: Do we, as a nation, continue to sacrifice the health of our children in order to keep our powerful corporations flush with cash? Or do we sacrifice the profits of powerful corporations in order to save the health of our children?

That's really the only choice we have on this issue. We cannot protect both children's health and the profits of the corporations selling products that harm them.

Right now, the status quo has chosen to sacrifice the children in order to protect the corporations. That has been the stance of the FDA, Senators, Congressmen (and women) and even the mainstream media. To heck with the children, they say. We've got to keep this economy running, even if it means selling poison to our kids!

That's a stupid, short-sighted stance. But it's business as usual in America today: Sacrifice the future in order to create the illusion of wealth in the present. But even if all these soda-pumping corporations continue to rake in more profits, is the nation really economically better off?

I think not. The long-term health care costs of treating diseases caused by soda consumption equal or outweigh any short-term benefits derived from the economic activity of selling sodas. While it may seem like a net gain in this fiscal year, in the long haul it's a net loss to the nation.

When our political leaders begin to demonstrate an understanding of those concepts -- and they begin to act in accordance with the long-term interests of the nation -- we might have a future that can be salvaged out of the health care mess that exists now. We can, of course, turn this nation around and eliminate virtually all obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic degenerate diseases, but doing that will require making courageous decisions that directly violate the profiteering interests of some of the most powerful corporations in the world.

This will likely never happen. Poisoning children generates far too much profit to see it stopped. The media makes money, the politicians get campaign contributions that keep them in office, and the corporations selling their harmful products get to pocket obscene profits from doing so.

And so we end up with a nation of fat children and fat-cat adults who rake in the profits from soda companies even while wondering why their own kids have diabetes and can't concentrate in school. If it weren't so sad, the whole thing would be truly laughable. We are doing this to ourselves. We are poisoning our own children and calling it "profitable." And We the People of the United States of America continue to let this happen, day after day, year after year, even as we go bankrupt from the whole sickening charade.

I have a message for every newspaper, television station, sporting event and website that accepts advertising from soda companies: You are part of the problem! By agreeing to promote these products that directly harm the health of your readers, you are promoting a culture of disease and death.

Greed is powerful in the western world, and it often overshadows compassion. In a world where compassion took precedence over greed, no one would dare advertise sodas and sugary drinks. But we don't live in that world; we live in the world of ingrained American greed and blatant pass-the-buckishness. Some of the wealthiest people in the world have accumulated that wealth primarily by pushing products that harm or kill children. It's true for Big Pharma, Big Tobacco and the junk food giants, too.

UCS Study Says Genetically Modified Crops Have Failure to Yield

(www.Borganic.org) A 43-page study released by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) reveals that since the inception of genetically modified (GM or GMO) crops, no significant increases in crop yields can be attributed to them. This is directly contrary to what Monsanto and other seed-makers have often pointed out in their own research and the UCS study answers why that is. The study, titled Failure to Yield, is available online, free of charge1.

While crop yields overall have increased substantially, including in corn and soybean crops--both of which have a significant percentage of share in GMO--these increases have not been directly related to the use of genetic modifications. Instead, they are due to several changes in farming practices, agriculture in general, and the overall trend towards higher yields in all of food production.

The study, led by Doug Gurian-Sherman, a lead scientist in UCS Food and Environment Program, is a compilation of published, peer-reviewed, and scientifically-accepted studies done since the early 1990s. These studies looked at crop production, various attributes of different crops, how environment and other factors affected yields, and so forth. According to UCS, overall these studies have shown that the yield increases often attributed to genetic modifications are often not because of the GMs at all, but due to other factors.

The UCS study shows that genetically engineered corn varieties have only increased crop yields marginally while engineered soybean varieties haven't increased yields at all.

In fact, says UCS, the substantial increases in crop yields over the past decade or so have largely been due to traditional breeding and improvements in agricultural practices.

The only gains apparent in the knowledge gained by GM practices are in the understanding of the plants' genomes themselves. Many breeding practices could benefit, says the study, by utilizing the knowledge gained about plant genomes and how these genes can be marked and targeted in breeding practices.

In other words, traditional plant breeding could lead to better hybrid varieties with less worrisome outcomes as compared to direct genetic modification (gene splicing and manipulation) by using the knowledge of plant DNA to breed, not engineer, better plants.

Further, states UCS, the needed increase in crop yields to keep up with human population requirements is in precisely the areas where genetically modified crops are generally unavailable due to cost constraints and largely primitive agricultural methods. In Africa, for instance, the food needs of the population would be better-served by providing education and resources for better agricultural practice than would be seen by introducing genetically modified, non-indigenous crops.

In fact, the study goes so far as to recommend that the U.S. Department of Agriculture remove funding from GMO studies and redirect it to other, more beneficial uses and programs.

Several other factors outside of the study have created more hot-button questions about how the proliferation of GM crops have affected us and our health. A recent release of secretive FDA memos about concerns with GMOs has created new questions about their safety2.

Concern over the genetic modification of food crops and its effect on the environment, our health, and more have all caused many of us to wonder why these GMOs are being foisted on us. Now that their number one argument for existence (increasing crop yields) has been scientifically questioned, the final straw may be loaded. Will the FDA's continual promotion of GM crops finally change?

Clear up Eczema with organic foods

(www.Borganic.org) Eczema can be a distressing condition which is characterized by inflamed, itchy skin that sometimes develops into open bleeding sores. It can appear at any age and affects approximately two to seven percent of the population. Currently, research indicates that food allergies can be the root cause of eczema. All eczema patients have positive allergy tests. Eczema is a tricky illness with many causes, but with some changes can be reversed.

Two thirds of patients have family history of eczema. Many eczema patients eventually develop hay fever and/or asthma.

Both allergies (IgE mediated which can be tested with your GP) and IgG intolerances to foods (tests completed by nutritionists) are key to treatment.

For most people eczema symptoms tend to worsen:
* When they are under stress or exhausted
* When eating certain foods
* When drinking much tea and coffee
* Exposure to heat
* Exercising
* Exposure to external irritants such as perfumes, washing powders,
shampoos and paints
* Pet hairs - especially cat hair

However Eczema is most commonly linked to food intolerances and leaky gut. If the illness starts in early childhood, it is often linked to dairy intolerance, eggs, citrus or wheat.

Leaky Gut

Leaky gut is a condition that comes about when the health of the gut is out of balance. Technically leaky gut is where the junction between the cells of the gut lining develops gaps through which undigested food particles get through and enter the blood stream. These particles should not be there and so are foreign to the body. The immune system starts to react to them, producing all types of inflammatory symptoms including joint pain, fatigue, headaches and asthma.

The gaps between the cells of the gut lining come about due to damage in the gut from toxins, parasites, and overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut. Over time, a buildup of stress, chemicals, heavy metals, impacted old faeces, and a high sugar or poor quality diet can all feed the overgrowth of bad bacteria and reduce the health of the mucosal lining in the gut.

All people have good and bad bacteria in the gut, but a healthy balance is about 80% good and 20% bad. When this gets out of balance, the bad bacteria produce toxins which damage the gut lining, causing the leaky gut.

Foods to avoid:
* Cut out all dairy produce, coffee, tea, chocolate, beef, citrus, eggs, wheat, alcohol, peanuts and tomatoes; this is a long list but is guaranteed to improve your eczema.

* Also avoid decaffeinated coffee products - if you are sensitive to coffee, it is not just the caffeine which is problematic.

* Avoid preservatives, additives, pesticides, food colorings, and refined and processed foods which can cause allergies and intolerances which all trigger eczema.

Foods to increase

* Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables and ideally make them organic so they are free from pesticides.

Healing Foods:
*Foods which help a leaky gut include cabbage and fresh ginger, which all help to soothe and heal a leaky gut.

* To help good gut health and avoid leaky gut, foods high in fiber are important because they feed good gut bacteria. These include beans, lentils, garlic, onions, leak, salsify, Jerusalem artichoke, oats and bananas.

* Have oily fish three times per week (salmon, herring, anchovies, tuna, and sardines). These oils are anti-inflammatory, and can reduce the severity and inflammation of the skin as well as help to heal the affected area.

* Pear juice is a good alternative to orange juice.

* Wheat germ oil and avocados are good for skin healing as they are high in Vitamin E.

* Other anti-inflammatory oils that help heal eczema are unrefined organic omega 6 oils, found in nuts and seeds.

* Unrefined olive oil, sesame and walnut oils are good for salad dressings.

* Oat milk, soy, buffalo and rice milk are good alternatives to dairy milk.

* Have a daily vegetable juice with carrot, raw ginger, apple, some cabbage, celery and cucumber - this is a great way to get high dosage supportive nutrients and heal the gut. Beetroot, artichoke, celeriac, celery and radish can also be swapped into your juice for extra help in liver cleansing.

* Seafood is also a good source of zinc and protein, which help nourish and repair the skin

Lifestyle changes to reduce stress may be important:

Ten Swine Flu Lies Told by the Mainstream Media

(www.Borganic.org) The mainstream media is engaged in what we Americans call "bald faced lies" about swine flu. It seems to be true with this issue more than any other, and it became apparent to me recently when a colleague of mine -- a nationally-syndicated newspaper columnist -- told me their column on natural defenses for swine flu was rejected by newspapers all across the country. Many newspapers refused to run the column and, instead, ran an ad for "free vaccine clinics" in the same space.

The media, it seems, is so deeply in bed with the culture of vaccinations that they will do almost anything to keep the public misinformed. And that includes lying about swine flu vaccines.

There are ten key lies that continue to be told by the mainstream media (MSM) about swine flu and swine flu vaccines.

Lie #1 - There are no adjuvants used in the vaccines

I was recently being interviewed by a major U.S. news network when the reporter interviewing me came up with this humdinger: There are no adjuvants being used in the swine flu vaccines, he said!

I assured him that adjuvants were, indeed, a crucial part of the vaccine recipe, and they were being widely used by drug companies to "stretch" the vaccine supply. It's no secret. But he insisted he had been directly told by a drug company rep that no adjuvants were being used at all. And he believed them! So everything being published by this large news network about swine flu vaccines now assumes there are no adjuvants in the vaccines at all.

Lie #2 - The swine flu is more dangerous than seasonal flu

This lie is finally starting to unravel. I admit that in the early days of this pandemic, even I was concerned this could be a global killer. But after observing the very mild impact the virus was having on people in the real world, it became obvious that this was a mild flu, no more dangerous than a seasonal flu.

The MSM, however, continues to promote H1N1 swine flu as being super dangerous, driving fear into the minds of people and encouraging them to rush out and get a vaccine shot for a flu that's really no more likely to kill them than the regular winter sniffles. Sure, the virus could still mutate into something far worse, but if it does that, the current vaccine could be rendered obsolete anyway!

Lie #3 - Vaccines protect you from swine flu

This is the biggest lie of all, and the media pushes it hard. Getting a vaccine, they insist, will protect you from the swine flu. But it's just flat-out false. Even if the vaccine produces antibodies, that's not the same thing as real-world immunity from a live virus, especially if the virus mutates (as they often do).

Lie #4 - Vaccines are safe

And how would any journalists actually know this? None of the vaccines have been subjected to real-world testing for any meaningful duration. The "safety" of these vaccines is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Lie #5 - The vaccine isn't mandatory

You hear this lie all the time: The swine flu vaccine shot is voluntary, they say. But it's not true if you're an employee at a place where vaccines are being mandated. Millions of Americans are now being told by their employers that if they don't get vaccine shots, they will be effectively fired from their jobs. It's especially true with health care workers, day care employees and school teachers.

Lie #6 - Getting a vaccine shot is a good bet on your health

In reality, a vaccine shot is far more likely to harm you than help you. According to one viral expert, the actual mortality rate of the swine flu virus is estimated to be as low as .007 percent (http://www.reuters.com/article/heal...). That means H1N1 swine flu kills less than one person in 100,000. Even if the vaccine works, let's say, 10 percent of the time, you'd have to vaccine one million people to prevent one death from swine flu.

And in vaccinating one million people, you would inevitably harm or kill several people, simply from the vaccine side effects! Your net risk of death is increased by getting a swine flu vaccine.

Lie #7 - The vaccine isn't made with "attenuated live virus"

When the swine flu vaccines were first being announced several months ago, they were described as being made with "attenuated live virus." This was directly mentioned in CDC documents, among other places.

This term apparently freaked out the American news consumer, and it has since been all but erased from any discussion about vaccines. Now, journalists will actually argue with you and insist the vaccines contain no attenuated live viruses whatsoever.

Except they're wrong. The vaccines are, indeed, made with "attenuated live viruses." That's how you make a vaccine: You take live viruses, then you weaken them ("attenuate") and inject them into people.

Lie #8 - Wash, wash, wash your hands (to avoid exposure)

This idea of washing your hands a hundred times a day is all based on the assumption that you can avoid exposure to the swine flu virus. But that's impractical. The virus is now so widespread that virtually everyone is certain to be exposed to it through the air if not other means. This whole idea of avoiding exposure to the swine flu virus is nonsense. The conversation should shift to ways to survive exposure via a healthy immune system.

Of course, hand washing is a very good idea in a hospital setting. Recent news reveals that doctors are too busy to wash their own hands, resulting in the rampant spread of superbugs throughout most large hospitals in first world nations.

Lie #9 - Children are more vulnerable to swine flu than adults

This is just a flat-out lie, but it makes for good vaccine sales. Vaccines are right now being targeted primarily to schoolchildren.

But the truth is that swine flu is extremely mild in children. "It's mildest in kids," says Dr Marc Lipsitch of Harvard University. "That's one of the really good pieces of news in this pandemic." Reuters actually had the guts to report this story, but most of the larger media outlets are still reporting that children are the most vulnerable.

Lie #10 - There is nothing else you can do beyond a vaccine and Tamiflu

This is where the media lies by omission. The mainstream media absolutely refuses to print just about any story that talks about using vitamin D, anti-viral herbs or natural remedies to protect yourself from swine flu. In the MSM, there are two options and only two: Vaccines and Tamiflu. That's it. No other options exist in their fictional reality.

Why is the mainstream media so afraid to print the truth these days? Why can't reporting on swine flu see the light of day... literally, with a mention of sunlight and vitamin D? Apparently, Big Pharma has such a tight grip on mainstream newspapers that no true story on swine flu can ever make it past the editor's desk.

Killing stories, deceiving the public

It must really be depressing to work for the mainstream media. Even the reporters I know can't stand it. The truth, they admit, rarely makes it into print.

Over the last few years, I've had a couple of job offers from large media outlets. They want to pay me a six-figure salary and stick me behind a desk where they can control what I report. Needless to say, I routinely reject those offers. If I can't write the truth like I do here on NaturalNews.com, there's no point writing at all. In too many ways, the mainstream media has become little more than a corporate mouthpiece, whoring itself out to the highest bidder / advertiser.

It's no fault of the frontline reporters who actually work there. For the most part, they agree with what I'm saying. It's the fault of the profit-oriented corporate mindset where news is about selling newspapers rather than actually informing the public.

Important news stories get killed every day in the newsrooms across America. They get killed not because they are poorly investigated or poorly written, but because they upset advertisers and corporate string pullers who shape the news and reject any stories that threaten their own financial interests.

Here in 2009, the distorted reporting on the swine flu vaccine has been one of the greatest media frauds ever perpetrated. The media has in every way contributed to the widespread ignorance of the American people on the subject of vitamin D and natural immune-boosting defenses that could reduce swine flu fatalities. Rather than informing readers, the MSM has made it a point to keep the people stupid, and in doing so, the media has failed its only mission and betrayed the very audience is claims to serve.

Chemicals in Our Diets Produce Fat People . Eat Organic

(www.Borganic.org) Most people don`t think about how chemicals in their diets affect their weight or weight loss efforts. But the man-made chemicals you consume on a regular basis can play a big role in whether you`re fat or not - even if those chemicals don`t contain a single calorie.

To understand this, you'll need to know that your liver is your primary detoxification organ. Your liver is also your primary fat-burning organ. Therefore, the more unnatural chemicals you consume on a regular basis, the more time and energy your liver needs to spend detoxifying you. But, the more your liver is consumed with the role of detoxification, the less time and energy it will have for burning fat. It`s really that simple.

Bill Gates Unleashes New Round of Grants on Experimental Genetic Modification and Vaccine Research

$8 million in grants to stimulate unconventional research, in the hopes of producing medical breakthroughs unlikely to emerge through traditional research channels.

In contrast to most grants, which require applicants to provide lengthy and detailed information, the Gates Foundation required applicants to submit only a two-page application, with no preliminary data needed. Eighty-one recipients were selected for starting grants of $100,000 each, out of more than 3,000 proposals. Recipients who show success in preliminary studies may receive follow-up grants of $1 million.

Tachi Yamada, president of the foundation's global health program, said that he will not be disappointed if 90 percent of the projects fail.

"The point is that where there are currently no solutions, we must work hard to find new solutions," he said. "We really believe that true innovation is needed. Some of the ideas might seem crazy, but there is a fine line between crazy and absolutely novel."

Grant recipients include teams working to detect malaria infection with a handheld, magnetic device; to create a genetic library of all possible HIV mutations; to research the body's ability to carry pneumonia bacteria without becoming ill, in hopes of developing an inhaled vaccine; to give cows a "vaccine" that causes mosquitoes biting them to die or become sterile; to develop nanoparticles that attach to tuberculosis-infected cells and release antibiotics over time; to test whether vaccines could be delivered via proteins produced by insect viruses; to infect malaria mosquitoes with a fungus that makes it hard for them to smell potential prey; to create antibodies that attack the receptor proteins of immune cells, thus blocking HIV from infecting the cells; and to develop a tomato that can be eaten to receive a dose of antiviral drugs.

"Some things require a revolution, rather than an evolution, in thinking," Yamada said. "The problem is we can be locked into an orthodoxy of thinking that shackles us and prevents us from thinking in novel ways."

School Lunch: Where the Real Weapons of Mass Destruction Lie

(www.Borganic.org) Mike Adams wrote a great piece on how the public is kept nutritionally uneducated. Unfortunately, the best place to start with this is the youngest members of society through the school lunch program. In this era of government bailouts and concern over wasteful spending, an opportunity presents itself to take a hard look at the National School Lunch Program. It was started in 1946 as a public safety measure, and it certainly turned out to be a disaster.

Under the program, the USDA gives public schools cash for every meal served - $2.57 for a free lunch, $2.17 for a reduced-price lunch and 24 cents for a paid lunch.

In 2007, the program cost around $9 billion. This figure is acknowledged as inadequate to cover food costs. What people don`t realize is that very little of this money even goes toward food. Why, because the schools have to use it to pay for everything from the custodial services to heating the cafeteria.

On top of these reimbursements, the schools are entitled to receive commodity foods that are valued at a little over 20 cents per meal. The list includes such highly nutritious foods as high fat, low grade meats and cheeses, processed foods like chicken nuggets, and pizza.

Since many schools do not have kitchens, many of these delectable morsels are ready to be thawed, heated or simply unwrapped. Also, as an additional treat, the schools get "bonuses" from the USDA, which essentially throw good money after bad for leftovers from the big food producers.

When the schools allow fast-food snacks that contain the same ingredients found in fast foods and the resulting meals routinely fail to meet nutritional standards, only a handful of people in our nutritionally illiterate society protest. Our government, caring little about this, justifies it by saying that they are "helping" to feed millions of American schoolchildren, with a great many of them from low-income households. And here we thought the "weapons of mass destruction" were in Iraq.

But those that are not nutritionally illiterate are demanding better. Parent advocacy groups like Better School Food have rejected the National School Lunch Program and have turned instead to local farmers for fresh alternatives. Even though they face heavy budget obstacles, these groups are demonstrating that the schools can be in control of their own menus. Schools, for example, in Berkley, Ca. and Hawaii, while continuing to use USDA commodities, cook food from scratch and add organic fruits and vegetables from local farms.

By adopting more efficient accounting software and different bulk options, like choosing milk dispensers over individual cartons, and working with farmers to identify crops, they can grow in volume and sell for reasonable prices; they have cut costs. It`s just too bad that our nutritionally illiterate society has not yet discovered that most of us are lactose intolerant and that switching to dairy alternatives like non-GMO soy milk or rice milk or various nut milks would provide a far more nutritious venue.

A lot of the so-called "nutrition experts" believe that to fix the National School Lunch Program you have to throw more money at it. But without healthy, nutritious food, cooks, and kitchens to prepare meals in, increased financing will only create a larger junk-food distribution system.

What we need to do is to scrap the current system and start from scratch. The bureaucrats in Washington need to give schools enough money to cook and serve unprocessed foods that are produced without pesticides, chemical fertilizers or any other synthetic chemicals and that are GMO free. When possible, these foods should be locally grown.

How much would it cost to feed 30 million American school kids a wholesome meal? It could be done for about $5.00 per child or roughly $27 billion a year plus a one-time investment in real kitchens. It may sound expensive but a healthy school lunch program would bring about long-term savings and benefits in the areas of hunger, children`s health and dietary habits, food safety, environmental preservation and energy conservation.

But the USDA would have to do its part as well (good luck!) by making good on its lame commitment to back environmentally sound farming practices. They also need to realize that there needs to be a sound program to deliver food, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, from farm to school. They would also need to provide support for kitchens and healthy meal planning and they definitely should cut all connection with Monsanto and the GMO travesty.

Actually, Congress has an opportunity to accomplish this when it looks at the Child Nutrition and Women, Infants, and Child Reauthorization Act, which is due to expire in September.

What about the Department of Education? Doesn`t eating well require education? Shouldn`t students learn what foods are good, what foods to choose, and what foods affect their health and their environment? That`s why this new school lunch program should be partly financed by the DOE. Arne Duncan, the Secretary of Education, should oversee it, with VP Joe Biden stepping up to the plate by making school lunch a priority of his White House Task Force on Middle Class Working Families.

Every public school child in America deserves good nutrition coming from fresh ingredients. Parents that are cash-strapped should be able to rely on the government to contribute to their kid`s physical well-being and not to the continued spread of youth obesity, type-2 diabetes and other diet related problems. Let`s eliminate the American public schools from harboring the real weapons of mass destruction!

Patrick Swayze Dead at Fifty-Seven after Placing False Hopes in Chemotherapy

(www.Borganic.org) Patrick Swayze, the star of movies such as "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost", died Monday at age 57 after a 20 month battle with pancreatic cancer. Although Mr. Swayze outlasted his original prognosis of only having a few months left to live, he refused to seek any natural or alternative treatments to help boost his immune system and nourish his body in addition to fighting his cancer - instead following the advice of his doctors to "starve out" the cancer.

During a one-hour "Barbara Walters Special" interview this past January, he told Ms. Walters that he "kept his mind open to miracles", but unfortunately he closed his mind to any hope of such a miracle coming from outside mainstream medicine, whose track record against pancreatic and other difficult cancers is far from miraculous.

Mr. Swayze also indicated during the interview that he did not want any advice from others on alternative treatments. According to Swayze, though he had taken some "specific immune system Chinese herbs," he said he hasn`t tried many alternative therapies. He said he learned from his mainstream doctors that if "you feed your body, you feed the insatiable voracious appetite of the cancer."

Shortly after the interview with Ms. Walters, Mr. Swayze was hospitalized for pneumonia. Tabloid newspaper ran photographs of him in April along with reports that the cancer had metastasized and that his weight had dropped to 105 pounds.

After the news about Swayze's cancer and the advice he was following appeared, the following article was posted here at Natural News, which resulted in considerable flack from mainstream outlets:

Now, sadly, it appears that the fears voiced in the article have come to pass.

No one can say with certainty whether alternative treatments might have saved or at least prolonged his life or how much better Mr. Swayze's quality of life might have been if he had opted for less harsh and possibly more effective alternatives. However, those who advocate natural health and bemoan the failure of mainstream cancer treatments believe that alternative therapies would have been much more likely to succeed and recognize that it makes little sense to starve the body. Cancer is only able to gain a foothold in the first place when it defeats a compromised immune system, the natural first line of defense against cancer and other illness. Starving the body further depletes the natural immune system.

The fact is that Mr, Swayze bought into the theory of starving the body along with the cancer, and the result was that what ultimately killed him was the wasting disease known as Cachexia, which is often the associated with advanced cancer and often sped along by toxic chemotherapy drugs.

Among the alternatives Mr. Swayze might have explored, in addition to nourishing his body, are oleander, black cumin seed oil (Nigella Sativa) and pancreatic enzymes - all of which have had success against pancreatic cancer, especially when combined with a healthy and nutritional diet and lifestyle that replenishes the body instead of diminishes it. Efforts by this author to get information to Mr. Swayze about alternatives which might have offered hope proved fruitless, though it appears unlikely that such information would have made a difference, given his statements on his chosen course of treatment.

Although Mr. Swayze's star status should make his loss no greater or lesser than anyone who succumbs to cancer, perhaps his example of placing his faith in treatment that has such a poor track record will stand as an example for others to look outside the box that mainstream cancer treatments has placed us in.

How to Detox Fluorides from Your Body

(www.Borganic.org) You can rid you body of most fluorides with some easy natural remedies. Fluorides have been linked to a variety of severe chronic, even acute health issues. First a quick review summary of fluoride.

Fluoride Toxicity

Fluoride is a soluble salt, not a heavy metal. There are two basic types of fluoride. Calcium fluoride appears naturally in underground water sources and even seawater. Enough of it can cause skeletal or dental fluorosis, which weakens bone and dental matter. But it is not nearly as toxic, nor does it negatively affect so many other health issues as sodium fluoride, which is added to many water supplies.

Sodium Fluoride is a synthetic waste product of the nuclear, aluminum, and phosphate fertilizer industries. This fluoride has an amazing capacity to combine and increase the potency of other toxic materials. The sodium fluoride obtained from industrial waste and added to water supplies is also already contaminated with lead, aluminum, and cadmium.

It damages the liver and kidneys, weakens the immune system, possibly leading to cancer, creates symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia, and performs as a Trojan Horse to carry aluminum across the blood brain barrier. The latter is recognized as a source of the notorious "dumbing down" with lower IQ's and Alzheimer's effects of fluoride.

Another not commonly known organ victim of fluorosis is the pineal gland, located in the middle of the brain. The pineal gland can become calcified from fluorides, inhibiting it's function as a melatonin producer. Melatonin is needed for sound, deep sleep, and the lack of it also contributes to thyroid problems that affect the entire endocrine system. The pineal gland is also considered the physical link to the upper chakras or third eye for spiritual and intuitive openings.

Various permutations of Sodium Fluoride are also in many insecticides for homes and pesticides for crops. Sometimes it is even added to baby foods and bottled waters. If you live in a water fluoridated area, purchase commercially grown fruits, especially grapes, and vegetables that are chemically sprayed and grown areas irrigated by fluoridated water, you are getting a triple whammy! Better skip that fluoridated toothpaste!

Avoiding Fluoride Contamination

As always, the first step in detoxifying is to curb taking in toxins. Purifying water by reverse osmosis or distillation in fluoridated water communities is a good start to slowing down your fluoride contamination. Distillation comes with a bit of controversy, as all the minerals are removed. A great mineral supplement such as Fulvic Acid (not folic acid) or unsulfured blackstrap molasses is recommended if you distill your water.

Avoiding sprayed, commercially grown foods while consuming organic or locally grown foods is another big step. Watch out for processed foods such as instant tea, grape juice products, and soy milk for babies. They all contain high concentrations of sodium fluoride. So do many pharmaceutical "medicines". By minimizing your sodium fluoride intake, your body can begin eliminating the fluorides in your system slowly.

Magnesium is a very important mineral that many are lacking. Besides being so important in the metabolism and synthesis of nutrients within your cells, it also inhibits the absorption of fluoride into your cells! Along with magnesium, calcium seems to help attract the fluorides away from your bones and teeth, allowing your body to eliminate those toxins. So during any detox efforts with fluoride, it is essential that you include a healthy supplemental dose of absorbable calcium/magnesium as part of the protocol.

So Now Let's Speed Up the Fluoride Detox

This author received a comment stating that an earlier article's source reference to sunlight for decalcifying the pineal gland was inaccurate. He said that darkness, not light, is needed to stimulate the pineal gland into melatonin production, which should lead to breaking up the calcification of that gland. Besides being logical, further source research indicates the critic is correct!

Day time exercise, a healthful diet, not over eating, and meditation all contribute to higher melatonin production from the pineal gland. Though very helpful to many for getting a full night's deep sleep, it appears inconclusive whether melatonin supplements will help decalcify the pineal gland. But it does seem logical that it might.

Iodine supplementation has been clinically demonstrated to increase the urine irrigation of sodium fluoride from the body as calcium fluoride. The calcium is robbed from your body, so make sure you are taking effective calcium and magnesium supplements. Lecithin is recommended as an adjunct to using iodine for excreting fluorides.

Iodine is another nutrient lacking in most diets and causing hypothyroid symptoms of lethargy or metabolic imbalances. Eating lots of seafood for iodine has it's constantly rising mercury hazards. Seaweed foods and iodine supplements that combine iodine and potassium iodide are highly recommended over sea food by most.

Tamarind, originally indigenous to Africa but migrated into India and southeast Asia, has been used medicinally in Ayurvedic Medicine. The pulp, bark, and leaves from the tree can be converted to teas and strong tinctures, which have also shown the ability to eliminate fluorides through the urine.

Liver Cleanses are considered effective for eliminating fluorides and other toxins. There are two types of liver cleansing, both of which can be performed easily at home over a week or two of time. One of the protocols focuses on the liver itself , and the other cleanses the gall bladder, which is directly connected with liver functions. Simple instructions for both can be found on line with search engine inquiries.

Boron was studied in other parts of the world with pronounced success for fluoride detoxification. Borox, which contains boron, has a history of anecdotal success for detoxifying sodium fluoride. Yes, this is the borox you can find in the laundry aisles of some supermarkets. It needs to be taken in with pure water in small quantities.

As little as 1/32 of a teaspoon to 1/4 of a teaspoon in one liter of water consumed in small quantities throughout the day is what has been demonstrated as safe and effective. Around 1/8 of a teaspoon with a pinch of pure sea salt in a liter consumed in small quantities daily has been reported to have dramatic results. There is the possibility of a food grade version with sodium borate, if you can find it.

Dry Saunas combined with exercise releases sodium fluoride stored in fatty tissues. It can be intense enough to cause side effects or an occasional healing crisis. So keep the pure water intake high and drink some chickweed tea to protect the kidneys while using a highly absorbable cal/mag supplement. Lecithin is another useful adjunct to this protocol for fluoride detoxification.

Those Adjuncts to the Listed Remedies

Vitamin C in abundance was not mentioned as a helpful adjunct. It is now. But do not use ascorbic acid as your vitamin C source for an adjunct to any of the fluoride detox methods. Do take in as much other types of vitamin C as you can tolerate, along with a couple of tablespoons of lecithin daily. Add those to your absorbable calcium and magnesium supplements with plenty of pure water, get good sleep and rest, and the detox should be relatively smooth.

Chelation therapies are recommended primarily for heavy metal removals. Though fluorides are salts, the synthetic waste product variety, sodium fluoride, comes with a cargo of toxic heavy metals. And these pernicious salts have a way of combining more heavy metals. So including any one of several chelation therapies may be beneficial for overall health improvements while applying your chosen fluoride remedy or remedies.

Those include bentonite clay internally or externally, fulvic acid (NOT folic acid), cilantro pesto with chlorella, and even DMSA or any other chellation therapy with which you are familiar.

Chemo Does Not Cure: Often It Inflicts Damage and Spreads Cancer

(www.Borganic.org) For years now, many of us who advocate natural health and natural approaches to beating cancer have warned against the dangers and the ineffectiveness of chemotherapy. The following report presented at the 27th Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium illustrates how chemo actually spreads cancer cells, as well as points out how little we are being told about the dangers of chemo:

"German investigators from Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, have shown that taxol (the "gold standard of chemo") causes a massive release of cells into circulation.

"Such a release of cancer cells would result in extensive metastasis months or even years later, long after the chemo would be suspected as the cause of the spread of the cancer. This little known horror of conventional cancer treatment needs to be spread far and wide, but it is not even listed in the side effects of taxol."


As has oft been stated, chemo does not cure cancer - it merely attempts to eliminate the tumors and cancer cells that are symptoms of the underlying causes of cancer, and does so with little success and great risks. In some instances it may appear to eliminate tumors and cancer cell masses, though most often it merely destroys some of the cancer cells. In the process, it often inflicts a very high price.

Besides spreading cancer cells, chemo inflicts serious and perhaps irreversible damage to the immune system, the body's natural first line of defense against cancer and other illness - thus paving the way for the remaining cancer cells or future cancers to overwhelm a body that is even less able to beat the cancer that got past the immune system in the first place.

Chemo also frequently results in serious and even fatal damage, and major organs are also damaged, particularly the liver - which as cancer pioneer Max Gerson observed is always impaired to begin in those who get cancer. The heart is also frequently seriously damaged.

The end result is that chemo kills more patients than it "cures". Most of those deaths are the result of liver or heart failure. Statistically, it has been estimated that the five year success rate from chemo is only about 3% (meaning only about 3% more patients who opted for chemo survived at least five years than did those who opted to not undergo chemo). But even that meager statistic is misleading in two key ways:

First of all, though survival rates are slightly higher for the first couple of years compared to those who opted out of chemo, after the third year the survival rate for those who opted out is greater than those who were treated with chemo and the gap widens significantly every year after that.

Secondly, and perhaps most important of all, the survival rates compare all of those who either undergo chemotherapy or decide against it. That includes the very large number of people who do little or nothing to address their chemo and naturally and merely forego chemo. If chemo survival rates were compared with those of people who not only opted out of chemo, but also chose a non-invasive natural protocol to eliminate the toxins and other causes of cancer, to boost their immune systems and to attack the cancer naturally without inflicting damage to the rest of the body, there would surely be no comparison.

You can bet that it is a comparison the cancer industry never wants to make.

Harry Hoxsey: Guilty of Curing Cancer with Herbs

(www.Borganic.org) Of all the episodes of alternative cancer treatment suppression by the medical establishment, none is more dramatic and long lasting than Harry Hoxsey's. Harry's constant conflicts covered almost 50 years of the 20th Century. Hoxsey was flamboyant and put himself into the public eye and ear energetically and often.

The medical establishment, cancer industries, and cooperating government agencies responded viciously. His USA operations were closed down in 1960, but his legacy continues as the Bio-Medical Center in Tiajuana, Mexico. His clinic was the first alternative cancer clinic to flee into a less politically medical hostile environment. Others have since followed.

The Hoxsey Treatment

There are two herbal formulas used in the Hoxsey treatment. One is external, and it consists of a red paste made with bloodroot, the active anti tumor ingredient, mixed with zinc chloride and antimony sulfide. This paste is applied directly onto skin cancer tumors.

An almost identical version of the Hoxsey external paste has a history of successful applications on skin cancers as far back as 1850 in England, by a Dr. Fell, who evidently got the bloodroot ingredient from Lake Superior Native Americans by way of European doctors traveling in America. In 1949 and again in the 1960's, there were other American doctors who used the same paste successfully in the States.

The internal tonic consists of Red Clover blossom, Licorice root, Buckthorn bark, Burdock root, Stillingia root, Poke root, Barberry root, Oregon Grape root, Cascara Sagrada bark, Prickly Ash bark, Wild Indigo root and Sea Kelp. The Sea Kelp may have been added more recently to the original formula. A supplement of potassium iodide, was included along with the tonic.

Richard Walters wrote in his Options: The Alternative Cancer Therapy Book, "According to eminent botanist James Duke, Ph.D., of the United States Department of Agriculture, all of the Hoxsey herbs have known anticancer properties . . . Furthermore, Duke noted, the Hoxsey herbs have long been used by Native American healers to treat cancer, and traveling European doctors picked up the knowledge and took it home with them to treat patients."

A diet is included that excludes pork, bleached white flour products, alcohol, sugar, sodas, and excess salt. In the clinic, patients eat together and mingle freely among themselves. The atmosphere is cordial and friendly, the type of positive attitude that encourages healing, sometimes in and of itself.

Communication among staff and patients is open. Humor and positive attitudes are encouraged. When Hoxsey was in charge, he would personally greet and encourage patients to instill a positive attitude. So a good diet and the right energy for healing is part of the treatment, in addition to the herbal remedies.

There was, and still is a one time fee, which enables patients to return as often as needed and receive the tonics. In 2005 at the Mexico Bio-Medical Center, renamed by Hoxsey's request, it was around $3500 to $5000. Compare that to chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, doctor bills, and hospital stays for the average cancer patient! Of course, during the decades before inflation, the one time Hoxsey fee was much less.

Hoxsey himself never turned anyone down for lack of funds. He had become successful as an oil man in Texas. He didn't need the money. Yet claims that Hoxsey was a con man out to exploit people anxious for a cure was a chronic AMA tactic. One of Hoxsey's cured patients commented that her allopathic doctor had warned, "He's gonna just take all your money!" She replied, "But that's impossible. You already have!"

Journalist James Burke observed Hoxsey take people who had traveled to his clinic in Dallas and personally handle all their travel and living expenses while charging nothing if they were broke. Burke was originally sent by Esquire magazine in 1939 to expose Harry Hoxsey as a quack and a fraud.

After witnessing so many patients recover, the manner in which they were treated, and the generosity Hoxsey displayed for cancer victims low on cash, Burke submitted an article titled "The Quack Who Cures Cancer" to Esquire Magazine. It didn't get printed. After the WW II, James Burke volunteered his journalistic services to Hoxsey as a press agent.

All the medical institutional queries into Hoxsey's treatments were and still are negative and dismissive. And these reports are the ones that get published and circulated among the medical journals and press releases to the mass media.

What doesn't get circulated in journals or mass media, however, is that several independent doctors, free of association or institutional restraints, conducted their own investigations and concluded that the Hoxsey therapy was more effective at curing cancer than the "conventional methods," and without side effects. Additionally, there are many Hoxsey cured patient testimonials.

The Hoxsey History

Harry Hoxsey was not a medical practitioner. But he was the young son of a rural Illinois veterinarian who used an herbal tonic and salve on animals, mostly horses, then secretly on humans with cancer. He found the formulas very successful. Though young Harry never got past the 8th grade, he assisted his father and understood the family formula his dad used and how to use and apply it to others.

This was all during the time that herbal medicine and homeopathy were even more popular and widely used than allopathy. A cynical joke around that time was with eclectic medicine (today's alternative medicine) you died of the disease; with allopathic medicine, you died of the cure! The formula had been in the family since the mid nineteenth century. But there is evidence that the herbs have other sources that date back longer.

As Hoxsey's father lay dying in bed, he told his son to use the family name for the formula, and to ensure its integrity. He also told Harry not to use the family formula primarily for monetary gain, but to allow its use for as many cancer victims as possible. In 1922, Harry Hoxsey started his first clinic in Taylorville, Illinois. He was hounded and arrested often for practicing medicine without a license.

He went to Chicago around 1924 to meet with the head of the AMA and editor of the AMA Medical Journal, Dr. Morris Fishbein, to prove the efficacy of his treatment. He was given access to a Chicago policeman, Sgt. Thomas Manix, whose cancer prognosis was terminal. Using both the ointment and tonic, the policeman was completely cured. This is a documented medical fact. Manix lived another 10 years.

Fishbein and associates were impressed, and they offered to buy the formulas from Hoxsey. But Hoxsey disagreed with the terms. There was no guarantee that everyone would be able to have access to the formula, and Hoxsey would be completely out of the loop with no control. Hoxsey refused to hand over the formulas. That was the beginning of their war, as the medical establishment began their campaign to destroy Hoxsey. The AMA claimed no such offer was ever made.

But a similar offer was disclosed to have been made in 1951 to Doctor Andrew C. Ivy, who had done research on curing cancer with a drug developed by a Dr. Durovic called Krebiozen. Dr. Ivy was not of the same personality mold as Hoxsey, who was intelligent but uneducated, and a bit crude yet very outgoing.

Instead, Dr. Ivy was a highly regarded quiet medical researcher who headed the Illinois University School of Medicine and was also the university's vice president. He and Dr. Durovic refused to sell the rights to a couple of business men, one of whom was a friend of the AMA Treasurer, J.J. Moore. For that refusal, Dr. Ivy was dismissed from his chair at the university medical school.

Krebiozen itself was smeared and no one really ever followed up on Dr. Ivy's promising research.
The point is that even though Hoxsey's crude sales persona was used to easily portray him as a con artist, the real issue was over power and control to obtain workable cancer cures for monetary gain, or perhaps to hide them away in order to maintain the status quo, also for monetary gain.

In 1936, Hoxsey established the largest independent clinic in the country in Dallas, Texas. There he was confronted with yet another enemy, the Assistant District Attorney, Al Templeton. Hoxsey was arrested 100 times in two years. Each time he bailed himself out with the large amount of cash he carried just for those occasions. But charges were always dropped as no one would testify against Hoxsey. Too many patients were happy with the treatment.

Al Templeton continued harassing Hoxsey until his brother, Mike Templeton, whose cancer was considered incurable by conventional allopathy, sneaked to the clinic to receive Hoxsey's treatments. He was cured. Al properly credited his brother's cure to Hoxsey's treatment, and he had a change of heart. The Assistant DA then became Hoxsey's lawyer, and soon he was elected as a district judge. Now Hoxsey had friends in high places, locally.

But his biggest problems came on a national level, since he had the large clinic in Dallas and several other smaller ones in different states. In 1949, Morris Fishbein wrote a hit piece on Hoxsey that was featured in the Hearst papers' Sunday Magazine, available to 20 million readers. The title was "Blood Money," and it was full of the character assassination bile that Fishbein had spewed endlessly in JAMA (Journal of American Medical Association) over the previous years.

Prior to this, Hoxsey relied on appealing to the public by radio, film, and with public demonstrations. He had also written a book, You Don't Have to Die. He was a bit crass, and his manner and direct sales approach made him an easy target of ridicule from official authority types. But he was widely accepted by the general public, and he had some supporters in government and in the medical profession as well.

But this time Hoxsey attacked directly and named names. He sued the Hearst Newspaper empire and Morris Fishbein and the AMA Journal for slander and libel, and surprisingly, he won! The award was only $2.00 (two dollars). Supposedly, the judge declared there was no monetary damage, since Hoxsey had successfully used the AMA persecution to promote his treatments and products. But the ruling was that Hearst and Fishbein were guilty of libel and slander. Hoxsey had paraded over 50 cured cancer patients into the courtroom, along with testimony from other supporters.

More important than the award was Fishbein's embarrassment. The trail revealed that Fishbein had flunked anatomy in college, and he had never practiced medicine! Fishbein also admitted that the external salve Hoxsey used was actually effective. This after years of propagandizing the salve as worthless and dangerous. So despite the measly two dollar award, it was a stunning victory for Hoxsey. And it got even better.

The Supreme Court upheld the decision, ruling that the AMA had used restrictive trade techniques. The ensuing publicity aroused a public outcry against the AMA in the early 1950's. The AMA was considered by many as nothing better than a trade union that would not tolerate competition. Seems like the more things change the more they remain the same!

Even Congress upheld that viewpoint in 1953, when the Fitzgerald report determined that the Hoxsey treatment and twelve other alternative treatments, including the aforementioned Krebiozen, were actively conspired against by organized medicine. Morris Fishbein was forced to resign from his long tenure as head of the AMA. But these victories were not enough for Hoxsey.

He stubbornly lobbied for congressional hearings on the efficacy of his treatments, and insisted that the medical authorities investigate and do their own research. Even after a panel of physicians with more of a nutritional and herbal focus asserted the validity of Hoxsey's treatment, a panel of surgeons and radiologists dismissed their verdict. The reason the AMA gave for declining further investigation was they didn't want to raise false hopes and give the public any false hope or hint of the treatment's credibility. Interesting logic!

So as usual, whenever Hoxsey raised the stakes on the medical establishment, a backlash was sure to come. This time, the AMA got another alphabet soup to do their bidding, the FDA. The FDA pursued a long campaign of harassing not only Hoxsey, but also his patients. Finally, the FDA closed and padlocked all 17 of Hoxsey's clinics on the same day in 1960. Hoxsey was beaten and retreated.

But he recovered and came up with a plan. He urged his head nurse, Mildred Nelson RN, who was once skeptical of Hoxsey before becoming his assistant, to relocate to a facility being prepared in Tiajuana, MX. He insisted that she change the name because the Hoxsey name was too much of a target, and that she head the facility while he remained in Dallas for his oil business.

The Legacy Lives

She reluctantly changed the name to Bio-Medical Center, and started running the new facility in 1963. It remains there to this day, but the treatment is still considered as Hoxsey's by many who have been cured or whose lives have been prolonged. The fee structure is the same as before, with a one time lifetime fee, requiring 30 percent down.

Ironically, Hoxsey came down with prostate cancer, and his treatment didn't work for him. So he succumbed to the surgeon's scalpel and lived another 7 years. When Hoxsey died, his personal physician insisted it was from heart failure induced by a weakened liver. But his physician was not available to sign the death certificate. The physician who did sign noted the death as the result of prostate melanoma.

The story of Harry Hoxsey and his cancer treatments could be made into a Hollywood screen epic. There are even more fascinating details, dramatic events, and anecdotal testimonies. Of course, these days Hollywood wouldn't release or distribute an accurate fictional account of Hoxsey's successes, nor could it focus on the cancer industry's unfair and vicious attacks in order to protect their vast, assorted revenue sources.

Largely because of his character and personality, Hoxsey's story is probably the most dramatic in the annals of the cancer industry's efforts to suppress any alternative or real cure for cancer. In lieu of a drama based on real life events, there is an excellent documentary, How Healing Becomes a Crime, which was produced in 1987 and is now available for viewing free on line.

The Gerson Therapy: Big Pharma and the AMA Suppress Another Holistic Cancer Cure

(www.Borganic.org) Unlike Essiac Tea or Hoxsey's herbal formula, the Gerson Therapy is a completely dietary based protocol with coffee enemas for liver detoxification. There is no single herbal formula, no magic bullet. But just as with Rene Caisse's Essiac Tea and Hoxey's secret formula, it has proven effective with even the most difficult cancer cases. It is much less expensive than FDA/AMA approved cancer "cures".

Dr. Max Gerson was ridiculed and harassed by a cancer industry that promotes expensive, harsh, even injurious treatments that don't cure. This unjust treatment was similar to Caisse's and Hoxsey's plight. Neither one made much money from their humanitarian endeavors, and neither did Dr. Gerson.

The Gerson Therapy is effective for other degenerative diseases as well, mostly by restoring health and killing pathogens or cancer cells naturally. Dr. Gerson cured Albert Schweitzer of his diabetes when he was 70 years old, allowing Schweitzer to continue his difficult work until he was 90.

After Max Gerson died, Albert Schweitzer wrote that Dr. Gerson was a medical genius who .. . "achieved more than seemed possible under adverse conditions. Many of his basic ideas have been adopted without having his name connected with them."

A Brief Gerson Therapy History

Max Gerson began his natural healing approach by treating tuberculosis in his native Germany during the 1920's. Even then there was opposition to his work from other physicians. By chance, a woman with terminal cancer requested that Dr. Gerson treat her cancer using his tuberculosis curing methods. At first he declined. He was not sure it would work for her or even for cancer at all, and he didn't want any more problems from the medical establishment in Germany.

But she insisted and drew up a document asserting her responsibility and indemnifying him from liability. To his surprise, she recovered completely. Then there were more cancer patients, and Dr. Gerson committed himself to the curing cancer. He left Germany as Nazism took over, continued his methods in France for a short while, and then arrived in the United States.

After practicing out of his home, he set up a clinic in upper New York state with some assistance from grateful cured patients. He published his findings and successes, which led to some attacks by the established medical community. After taking five successfully cured "incurable" cancer patients to Congress in an effort to prove his therapy's worth in the mid 1940's, the AMA and Big Pharma actually stepped up the attacks.

Dr. Gerson's daughter, Charlotte Gerson, who was very involved with the Gerson Therapy and continued after her father's death, claims that a doctor working in his clinic was a mole for the medical establishment. This same doctor later retracted positive statements about Gerson's therapy from medical journals. During his presence, several documents were discovered to be "missing".

Charlotte also asserts that Max Gerson was poisoned by someone putting arsenic into his afternoon coffee. There is forensic evidence to support her claim. There was arsenic detected in his urine after he complained of stomach cramps upon drinking his afternoon coffee. The establishment claimed he died of lung cancer. According to Charlotte, there were no tumors on his lungs. His weakened condition from ingesting arsenic at his 77 years of age simply precipitated a lung infection.

Charlotte's son and Max Gerson's grandson, Howard Straus, has written the book Dr. Max Gerson: Healing the Hopeless. Howard had to take it to Canada for publishing since he could not find a willing publisher in the States. Even then, some passages that were very unflattering to Big Pharma, the AMA, and medical journals were removed.

The hopeless and terminally ill were who mostly came to Dr. Gerson's clinic. It's sadly true that most cancer patients turn to alternative methods only after AMA/Big Pharma fails, if they are still alive. Then they are considered incurable or terminal. Dr. Gerson felt that because of this, he wasn't shut down. After all, when more money can't be squeezed out of desperate cancer victims because they are considered incurable, there can't be any concern over competition, right?

Howard's book chronicles Dr. Gerson's achievements in the face of constant adversity and ridicule. And Charlotte herself has recently co-written The Gerson Therapy, which covers the therapy's protocol. The Gerson Institute exists today to ensure, with certification, that practitioners who have adopted Dr. Gerson's protocol apply it correctly. They also educate those who wish to use Dr. Gerson's methods, and they are available for questions and for educational materials.

Basic Protocol Summary of the Gerson Therapy

Max Gerson's protocol could be divided into three major sections: (1) Heavy vegetarian juicing for enzymes and minerals with a low sodium and animal protein diet, but high in potassium (2) Detoxification of the liver with coffee enemas (3) Medication with natural supplements. This last item, (3) may be the only one that is best served by a health practitioner. The others are capable of administering by oneself at home.

Juicing (1)

It is important to select the right type of juicer for juicing, even if only for health maintenance. High speed blenders and centrifugal juicers are expensive and difficult to clean after each use. That can be discouraging. More importantly, those high speed machines destroy much of the enzyme content of the fruits and vegetables juiced.

Enzymes are even more important than minerals and vitamins. They are biochemical catalysts that function throughout the body to promote metabolism, even on the cellular level. So without enzymes, nutrients won't fare well and metabolic waste products will stay trapped in the blood.

Low speed masticating or triturating machines are much better for cancer patients using the Gerson method. The same holds true for anyone who wishes to juice for better health and immunity, as the fruit and vegetable enzymes are preserved while removing the fiber that inhibits digestion of the nutrients in the juices.

The masticating machines have one auger shaped screw while the triturating machines have two screws that mesh together. These machines can juice even wheat grass in addition to hard vegetables and fruits, such as carrots and apples. They are easier to clean and less expensive than high speed machines! Either type will do for most purposes, although the triturating juicers are favored for Gerson cancer therapy.

The Gerson therapy advocates juicing carrots with green vegetables and apples. Carrot juice alone has a high glycemic index. Not good for blood sugar balance. Of course, these foods for juicing must be, repeat, must be, organically grown.

Root vegetables, e.g. carrots, directly suck up whatever is in the soil. So carrots from mineral deprived soil that is soaked with insecticides and petrochemical fertilizers will do more harm than good. And non-organic apples are heavily sprayed. The Gerson therapy for advanced cancer calls for considerable consumption of freshly made fruit and vegetable juices. For general health, less is required.

Liver Detoxification with Coffee Enemas (2)

The liver is an extremely important organ to detoxify, since once the liver degenerates to near collapse, death is imminent. There are methods that use olive oil and lemon juice to expel solidified fat globules, often considered gall stones, after a few days of apple juice or apples. Those methods actually clear out the gall bladder, not the liver itself. Yes, liver function is somewhat improved by cleansing the closely associated gall bladder.

But the liver itself must be really clean and healthy in order to effectively handle the body's effort to detoxify, especially when eliminating toxic cancer cells. Using coffee enemas strikes virtually all but the most dedicated caffeine addicts as odd! However, if administered properly, the caffeine doesn't get into the blood stream.

That's right, caffeine. Hold the decaf please, and lose the flavoring too. Just plain coffee is the ticket. What is important, again, is using only organically grown coffee. Makes sense, right? For normal colon cleansing, one retains the liquid while lying on the left side, but for liver detox with coffee enemas, one must lie on the right side for a few minutes before expelling. This allows the coffee's entrance into the hepatic portal of the liver.

"The caffeine, theobromine and theophylline, in coffee dilate the ducts to facilitate bile flow. The palmitates in coffee increase the action of glutathione-S-transferase by 600% to 700% in the liver and in the small intestine. It is this enzyme that is responsible for the detoxification of free radicals and it's also this enzyme that inhibits the re-absorption of the radicals."

Dr. Gerson stated in a 1956 lecture, "In addition, the liver helps to prepare the stomach juice with the help of the visceral nervous system. The liver helps to prepare the pancreas, trypsin, pepsin, lipase, the digestive enzymes - all that is regulated with the help of the visceral nervous system. The liver has many, many more very important functions. One of them is the reactivation of the oxidizing enzymes . . . It is very important to note that oxidizing enzymes are at a low level of function in cancer patients."

Medication (3)

No pharmaceutical medications are used or even allowed from past use. Fortunately, frequent coffee enemas assuage the pain for which many advanced cancer patients are prescribed pain killers. As a doctor, Max Gerson could and would administer natural medicines by injection as well as orally.

He used high doses of potassium and extremely high doses of iodine/potassium iodide, as well as a thyroid solution to force the cancer cells into rapidly absorbing the potassium, which eventually oxidized the cancer cells. The importance of oxidizing cancer cells from within the body is a prominent Gerson theme. Cancer cells thrive in an anaerobic environment. Oxygen destroys them.

Crude liver extract and vitamin B12 for red blood cell production were injected, and a mixture of carrot and liver juice was added to the many juices that the patients drank. This served to create more oxidation in the cancer cells, while aiding their elimination from the body. Dr. Gerson had determined that even in his days, prior to 1960, the oxidizing merits of potassium in our soil and food supply were greatly diminished.

Again from Dr. Gerson's 1956 lecture: "All this is done in the effort to restore the enteral digestion. When that functions, we add stomach juice (Acidol Pepsin) and we add pancreatin not coated. The cancer patients cannot digest the coated pancreatin. The pancreatin is given five times a day, three tablets each time. So they always have plenty of trypsin, pepsin, lipase and diastase in their systems [to help eat the tumor masses away]".

But keep in mind that these patients were advanced cancer cases, and intense, albeit non-toxic measures had to be used. Some could not even walk into the clinic! Yet he had a high rate of success curing the "incurable" hopeless.

Conclusion

As Albert Schweitzer wrote, "Many of his basic ideas have been adopted without having his name connected with them." That was written several years ago. Today, there are those who have used the Gerson protocol to cure their cancer and become alternative cancer treatment gurus, soliciting materials over the Internet.

There are also those who have adopted some or most of his techniques in their holistic health practices. His discoveries have spread throughout the alternative healing community. But it's probably best to use a practitioner who has been certified by the Gerson Institute for cancer cases.

Fortunately, parts of his methodology can be used by anyone from home. It's to our benefit to explore and utilize Dr. Max Gerson's findings and methods now more than ever. He stated in his 1956 lecture that we are forced into a diet of dead foods that are also poisoned. Even with organically grown foods becoming more available, there are more toxins and poisons in our environment than ever before.

Thanks to the early courageous work of Dr. Max Gerson, another effective, non-toxic cure for cancer that needs more public awareness is among us. And juicing properly and detoxifying the liver effectively can be used by all of us to enhance our health and survival.
